Cold Spring Country Club
About
Cold Spring Country Club is situated halfway between Springfield and Worcester. Opened in 2010 in an effort to bring world class golf to western Massachusetts, the club has since garnered a local following. The par-71 layout is unique in that it has six par 3s and five par 5s. There are also some par 4s in the 450-yard range. The 6,521-yard length indicated on the scorecard can be deceiving since it feels much longer when you're playing it. The golf course has plenty of variety, including dogleg lefts, doglegs rights, short holes, and long holes. Thanks to its mountaintop locale, Cold Spring C.C. offers stunning views that are as diverse as the holes. The vistas from the elevated tees and greens stretch to the Berkshires, Connecticut, and Vermont. From the golf course's highest tee box on the par-3 10th, you'll have a panoramic view of central Massachusetts.

A terrific par-5 of 490, the second demands good shotmaking to find this green safely. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/05/2022

Although modern, the course maintains a natural feel. Secluded, too, on some holes, such as the sixteenth. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/05/2022

Golfer Reviews
Cold Spring is awesome!
I had an awesome day, at an awesome course! Conditions, and weather were phenomenal. You know you're on a great course when you can count on 2 hands the number of pine needles you have seen on a green.
great coarse
Cold spring is challenging and very well worth playing. It has an excellent restaurant and club house with great food and service. Also it has white sand bunkers not dirt like most of the less expensive courses. I have played here 5 times and will be back again.
Nice course
Course in nice shape the day we played it drizzled but the greens were still fast. This course is not made to walk . Long distance between each hole .
Great First Experience
1st trip to Cold Springs and we will be back. My son and I played on a Sunday morning. We booked at Golfnow Saturday afternoon and paid $50 with cart. We live about 25 minutes away and the ride was nice. Driving up to the course and you can tell they are one of the better courses in Western Ma.
We were met in the empty parking lot by an starter who greeted us nicely. He took our bags and got us setup on a cart. Once we putted a few I inquired about jumping ahead of a few groups as we were only a twosome. The starter put us out as the second group behinds a threesome of members around 9:00 a.m.. The members flew as did we and finished without having to wait once past the first tee.
Course was in spring form but still pretty lush. Once it greens up it will be very nice. Greens rolled very good for it being so early in the year. They were slow but that's expected. Some challenging holes and some easier par fives. Par three's were very nice (longer).
Overall the course is one to play. Really lay's out nicely beyond the gimmicky 18th hole that we played as number 9. You can tell the owners put allot of money into the property. Try it out when you get a chance.
Beautiful Course
I am a beginner and had a great time playing 9 holes at this course. Course condition is very good, staff is very friendly, and I absolutely would come here again.
A fun course to play
With a bunch of par 5's and 3's (11 in total I believe), you'll be playing every club in your bag. Lots of fun holes that aren't extremely difficult, but aren't a cake-walk either. Course was in excellent shape for November, especially considering how cold it was for the few days before we played; only minor gripe would be some of the tee boxes, but that was likely due to it being the end of the season. Every employee we talked to was incredibly nice, which is always a tough find at a golf course. Also had a few planes in the sky from the nearby military base, which was pretty awesome.
Drove 2 hours to play here and can't wait to do it again! Hope to get back out there again before the end of the season, and will be frequenting here in 2014.
Bad Pro Shop Experience
Terrific place to play, but the long dark haired woman who was our first contact in the pro shop really turned us off. This woman should not be in a customer service position. Her attitude was very poor and condescending. Everyone else was terrific and so was the course!
Difficult but fun
Cold Spring is not an easy course. It has quite a few tough holes. So if you are not having a good day it will be a struggle. That said, it is a lot of fun to play.
Conditions were generally good. Greens were excellent, and fast. Bunkers are beautiful. Tees a bit scruffy. Fairways mostly OK. Quite a few leaves down this time of year, so a couple of times I had to search a while for my ball.
Given the difficulty, it might be a slow round if the course is crowded. But I was the first one off on a Sunday morning and got around in 3:15.
Very enjoyable course
Cold Spring is a very unique course which has some funky holes but overall it is very enjoyable.
The few criticisms I had were the 18th hole as it is a 200 yard par 4 straight up a mountain. You can very easily hit your approach shot in front of the green only to see it roll right back down the hill to your feet. Hole 12 is an 80 yard par 3 over water that is frustrating because it is so short. Would love to see them, if possible, bring the tee boxes back 30+ yards. Other than those two holes the only other criticism are the tee boxes. Which were pretty beat up.
However there are far more positives then negatives. The greens were in fantastic shape. Rolled pretty true and the speed was consistent hole by hole. The fairways were in pretty good shape with all the weather issues we have experienced this year. Their sand traps are also some of the best I've ever played out of. Although I find it best to never play out of the sand but it is inevitable.
Overall I would definitely recommend this course to anyone.
elevation changes and beautiful bunkers
Cold Springs loves to talk about it's crushed marble bunkers and once you are fortunate enough to find yourself in one you know why. The appearance and play-ability of them is just amazing. If you find yourself with an extra minute drop a ball in the bunker and have a go.
Overall the course is, apparently, still a slight work in progress, but the overall quality is tremendous. The elevation changes for 10 and 18 are astounding - and the view from the 10th tee box is nearly unparalleled in any course I've played. The 200ish yard par 4 18 must have 150 feet of uphill climb to reach the green and is quite a fun challenge. Missing short on 9 can only be described as punishing.
A very enjoyable round of golf and had I not been a visitor to the area this would be a regular course for me.
Flagship of Western Mass Courses
This course is absolutely beautiful. Scenic New England views on every hole, crushed white granite bunkers, pristine fairways and greens, super friendly staff and paved cart paths. Awesome, scale of 1 to 10, 11. A must play!!!
Doesn't live up to expectations
I understand that this course has only been open for two years and still requires some filling in, but there's no excuse for dirt tee boxes, Poison ivy in the crab grass rough and an overall feeling of not being at a " championship course. " Granted they were plugging the greens on the front 9, so I had to play the back mine twice. But according too the member I played with the old superintendent got fired for not properly taking care of the course... Go figure. Hopfully the new one can change things around, because this course has truly great potential.
Very interesting with panoramic views
The course is one of the loveliest in Western Mass with unusual holes and great conditions in the fairway and on the greens. The holes are unique and challenging. The tees are in need of recovery from some type of damage, as there is little grass and they are brown. It doesn't affect the play off the tee very much however except in the barest of spots. The facilities are top rate and the staff is very pleasant and accomodating. We will definitly return.
some nice holes but browned out tee boxes
The course looks great as you drive up- the 1st t box dispels that image- a lot of other t boxes also in rough shape. The greens are very nice and put true- the fairways are also in pretty good shape. The sand traps are very nice.
Nice course could be even better!
I gave this course an "average" on value for the money with an overall rating of good.
First, the good stuff - absolutely gorgeous scenery in the wooded hills of western MA. The course layout is fun, with some holes I absolutely love and some I could do without. Some holes are very narrow, so there is a challenge off the tee. Some holes are pretty open, so you can let it fly. The condition of the greens was good - fast and true. The fairways and tee boxes were a little torn up, which I assume is the result of a lot of play this summer. Overall, well worth it to play this course, especially if you can get a reduced rate during the week. Nice clubhouse and restaurant. Good food, although the drinks are over priced. $6.50 for a draft beer? Really?
The bad stuff - They let a lot of twosomes and singles go out, and we played as a twosome. As we were making the turn at 12:30 PM, they let a threesome tee off on the back nine right in front of us. The clowns didn't let us play thru and one was on his cell phone most of the time, so play was backed up and slow. When we came in after the round, the "attendant" was on his cell phone and pretty much ignored us. Upon check in, a different set of attendants were polite and respectful.
trl
Its a beautiful course , its laid out well fairways and green where in good condition only the tee boxes were burnt out on many of the tee s .Club House is very nice and staff are very polite.
