Nice little layout, But !
Fairways more weeds than grass, greens bald in most places looks like green keepers had a mad moment with cutters ,
Bunkers no sand in the 2 I went in ,
Shame it could be a great little 9 hole.
Decent Course
Having read the previous reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect here, but as an average golfer, this is my take.
Value for money? Yes. £17 for 9 and £30 for 18 in London.. doesn't get much better.
Condition? It's not the best kept course, greens and little spongy & bumpy, the bunkers are mostly GUR condition (it had rained a lot the day before which didn't help), but for a beginner / intermediate level player, it's a great place to learn & test yourself.
Difficulty? Medium. Some really interesting holes on this course, and two par 5s, which was a nice plus, as I never feel I get value from short courses.
Etiquette? The members were all really nice & friendly, never felt rushed nor did we feel like we were rushing the group(s) in front. Didn't come across as pompous at all, unlike many other courses I've played in the UK
Play again? Absolutely.
OK for the money
I played here on a quiet Bank Holiday evening. I booked online, which was just as well because there are no staff anywhere to be seen. It’s part of a David Lloyd club, which is an oddity in itself. There is a starters hut but it’s always locked, and no staff. The course layout is fine but you can tell that green staff must be thin on the ground. There is no definition between fairway and rough, bunkers are poorly maintained, tees very scruffy and greens showed signs of disease. I guess the green staff do the best they can with the limited amount of resource available. However, when you factor in that it cost £12 for 9 holes you realise that it is good value, better value than going to a driving range imho. The course is also very flat and easy walking. Also, there aren’t too many hazards or opportunities to lose your golf ball.
Would I play here again, probably not. Would I recommend it? Well, that depends on your golfing ability. If you are a beginner this is perfect for you learn the art of golf on a proper course. If you are an experienced golfer the condition of the course would be disappointing to you. There is no real clubhouse, just the David Lloyd Centre attached. However, there is a Harvester and a Gastro pub with a great selection of beers close by.
A decent 9 hole, fairly well maintained and had some great holes.
Recent bad weather made me uncertain but course had drained well. Played the first possible tee time on a Saturday morning and wasn’t prohibitively busy. Good value course for a relaxed 9 holes. Only draw back were half the greens were, whilst cut well, were suffering a little from moss/discolouration.
Nice staff, poor course
This was the first course I ever played a round on, many years ago now but it was a far cry from the nice course it once was.
On arrival, there is no signage as to where the course entrance / clubhouse (or starter hut in this case) is, likewise on the course; the layout is easy to follow but even with temp. tees in place, there was nothing indicating which hole you're on. The 'fairways' were similar in condition to that of a muddy Sunday-league pitch, and the bunkers were all flooded with either water, leaves, or both, and the fallen branches all over the place made it feel like a stick-loving dogs paradise, which it partially is given it's mixed-use status for dog-walkers / parkgoers.
The saving grace for the course is the greens which were in fairly decent condition, despite a few blobs of mud scattered about.
Little seems to be done in terms of course maintenance which is shame given the amount of Investment that has gone into the adjacent health club, which are supposedly linked.
I can however credit the staff who were all friendly and helpful
Steal for under £15pp
Greens, fairways, tee box, all in fair condition given that it had been raining for the last few days. Greens actually quite quick! For less than £15 this round was very good value - as usual when you have somewhere that’s good value you also get slow play.
Would go back
Good course for price
Many dog walkers which will put you off your game. Well priced and nice layout despite challenging weather conditions
First round
All fine except starting my second 9 clashed with competition about to start. My tee-off time was 11.42 on 7/10.
Lots of unrepaired divots on greens, which I repaired.
David Lloyd - Hampton
Played the 9-hole to get out and have a quick run through. Was discouraged to see the fairways and greens in bad condition. There were weeds on every fairway, in some, albeit few cases no real grass present. Greens were a bit burnt in areas leading to patchy grass and unfortunately they were a bit bobbly and undulating. A fair few pitch marks not tended to and by the colour of the grass not recent either.
Staff were very friendly and the course was laid out well. Good challenging holes, would have been better if the maintenance was up to scratch.
No obvious off course amenities, it was across the path from a David Lloyd centre but no indication if the facilities there were for use.
It was a public course too. So dog walkers and people walking through some parts of the course.
Putting green was present but no flags in the holes so it wasn’t obvious if it was open for use or not.
Great informal 9 holes.
Great informal 9 holes.
Goo facilities in the gym next door
Fun challenging 9 holes
The course is fairly narrow but can be forgiving, it makes for a challenging 9 holes. Anything in the rough you can write off finding your ball, probably deserved though!
I was second out on the Sunday morning and it was a slow play on the course looking back, so get out as early as possible. But worth the play
Decent little course
Decent little course for the money. A bit wet but we have had a lot of rain lately.
Not a golfers course
Poor quality for the price, felt like a park course. Basically stuck a golf course next to a leisure centre as a license to print money. Ok for a quick 9 holes but don’t expect a decent course
