Good Time
Played Sept 6th. Smooth playing, no tee waits. There was a scramble of a lady's club outfit that we were unaware of, but Laura made our tee time and recommendations to us that fit right along with that. The enjoyment of this course is only enhanced by the caring and attitude of the staff. I like the new clubhouse, too!
For beginners only
Played this course for years and it was very enjoyable for a small course. In the last few years they closed the course and built homes and condos.
The course now is in chunks. Lots of 100 yd+/- holes with a 3 or 4 left alone (par 4s). The fairways are DRY and SHORT. I guess you could putt all the way to the green. Will NEVER go there again.
Just a real estate development with a putt putt course for local owners. Picture is deceiving when you see the rest of the place.
For beginners only
Played the course before housing development chopped up the place. Lots of 100 yd +/- par 3's. Good if you are just learning to play. Otherwise, it's dry, fairways are mowed too low. Construction causes course to be dismembered into chunks of golf area... reduced from the original.
Great Condition
The course was in excellent shape. Great sand in the bunkers. Be aware that the course is extremely short. I hit wedges on all but three of the par 3s.
Fun Day
Started before our Tee time. It was a very enjoyable day. Never rushed or had to wait. Nice executive course.
Great for the short game work
First 9 had a bunch of short holes. The back 9 was laid out a little better. Pace on Sunday afternoon was decent. It is well kept.
Highly recommend
First time I played there about 10 years ago. It was decent, but didn't make me to come back.
Now, it's been completly remodeled. I like the new layout & very enjoyable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!
Great round challenges your short game. Staff very helpful and cordial.
Not like old times...
Birch Hills golf course is still there. However growing up playing it, along with Imperial G.C., I was expecting to see the course that was there 20-30 years ago... only better. Unfortunately that isn't the case.
It's a nice little course tucked in tightly between the streets, homes and shops but it is now basically a pitch-n-put. The longer par 4 holes no longer exist and some of the shorter par 3 holes are now less than 90 yards.
Hats off to the grounds crew. The green conditions were impeccable and beautifully kept up.
The driving range is still there and rotates from mats to grass which is nice. The clubhouse is quaint though it serves as the pro shop and starter as well.
It's a pretty little course but for that amount of money you could play a few rounds at Lake Forest Golf and Practice Center and see the same caliber of difficulty and water.
Birch hills golf
Excellent challenge for beginners and good golfers. Very nice course
Great course for your short game
Birch Hills is a fun executive course that challenges your "100 yd and in" shots. The staff was excellent and the course was in solid shape. It was also a grwt surprise to discover that juniors were free (not sure if this is a limited time promo). The only drawback was the threesome in front was excessively slow; no ready golf there. They were two holes behind and did not seem to care at all. However, the rest of our experience was fantastic. We will be back.
Birch Hills Golf Course Review
I played Birch Hills for the first time. It's a very short track. All Par 3's with four Par 4's its fun and quick and a great course for not so much money. It's a great place to enjoy a drink a cigar and hang out with your friends.
Great course for a mediocre player to get some birdies.
Greens and fairways are in great shape.
Back nine is a lot longer and harder; although two of the three par fours are driveable; and there is water to worry about.
Bring a sandwich, the new clubhouse is not done yet.
The Reality Not Seen on the Photos
I golf 3 times a week, a different group, and different courses each time. Birch Hills is lacking in everyway; service, they have a bunch of kids that do not know the meaning of the term ‘Gentleman’s Game’ and the tradition and service that comes with the game of golf. They should be selling hot dogs from a cart their service is so bad. There is no clubhouse at the moment (building one), so you check in at a trailer next to another trailer with bathrooms. The 4 times that I have been there, the driving range is always off mats… however, they have lights to practice a bit later. The course; the ground is so hard at the tee off boxes that you have to step on your tee to get it in to the ground. The greens are horrible, littered with everything from eucalyptus tree leaves, geese droppings, and these little hard things that make your ball shoot in a different direction if you hit one. The top of the water ponds are covered in green algae, so if you do lose a ball in the water, you will not be able to even see it to recover it. A few of the fairways on the later par 4’s have mud-ridden cart tire tracks that are sunk in… don’t hit your ball there!
Look, I know most golf courses have their downfalls and are not perfect, but Birch Hills Golf Course does not even fall under this category.
Short game
Great place to improve accuracy/short game.
Great Short Course!
The course is maturing nicely! Tee boxes were the worst part of the course. Fairways and rough are above average. Bunkers were a little rocky but not too bad. Greens were in great shape other than the many ball marks. The layout is awesome especially for if you really want to dial in your wedges or are a beginner. Driving range is also very nice with mats and grass. The clubhouse is almost done being built, but looks like its going to be really nice. With a couple condition improvements and a completed club house this could be a really amazing course.
Among the nicest e executive courses
This is among the best short courses you can play. A majority of the par 3s are at varying wedge distances providing an excellent opportunity to test your short game. Greens are in very good condition, faster than one would expect and with considerable slope and undulations. Played early on 4th of July in 2 1/2 hours
