Awesome Par 3 Course!
Great for beginner to novice golfers. I come here when I want to tighten up my short game. Course conditions are great, recently renovated. Overall great course! I would definitely recommend friends and family to play here.
The old course is shorter but happy it's back!
Great course for a quick round for your short game. Included was a $15 replay which included a cart and a drink. No club house yet.
Welcome back Birch!
Great Value and Great for working on your Short Game
They have totally revamped this curse so it's work still in progress. They don't have their Club House/Pro Shop built so that's just a tad bit of a inconvenience but they still make it work as best they can.
Nice Beginner Course
Enjoyed the length of the course. Good for my beginning talents. 13 par 3 holes. Will play again.
Fun little course
Took my girlfriend to play her second round of her life. This is a great course for beginners since the course isnt very long and most of the holes are short par 3s. I found it great for working on my short game with most holes within 100 yards or so. For a public course on the weekend, I found the pace of play wasn't too bad. We finished our round just shy of four hours. One of the only gripes we had, was there wasn't a drink cart person on duty, so make sure to stock up on your drinks before you tee off!
Working the short game
Fun little course. A heads up about temporary greens would have been nice.
Greens
The tee boxes hard couldn't put a tee in them. The greens were in bad shape. 3 temp greens.
Not forthcoming !
Terrible condition , four temporary greens in first ten holes. Was not advised before playing! Some other greens in bad shape. Need a hammer to push tees into ground on tee box. Should have been told about temp greens before paying! Don't waste your time, very depressing!
i used to enjoy playing here
this is the second layout change that im aware of. last time it was fine. they should have made this a nine hole course instead of a bunch of short par 3s
Fun round
My 6-year-old son and I had fun playing this course. Liked the layout. Nice greens and tee boxes. The rest was a little poor but maybe just because of the time of year. Staff was very friendly. Nice carts. Got a good deal on golfnow.com. Clubhouse is just a trailer and only snacks available. Nice driving range. There were a lot of people on the course. Would have liked to play a little faster. Will return again when in the area.
Nice Executive Course Redesign
The greens are quick and sometimes tricky. Wish the was a Marshall on the last few holes to possibly speed up play.
Too much mud and Slow play
The greens were the best part, except for the green that is made out of the fairway. They put a hole in the fairway and called it a green with a white line circle. The bunkers were hard dirt and all over the place, The pace was great until we came up to a 5-some with kids. It took one hour to play 3 holes. I won't play this again. for $10 more dollars you can play a full course with medium pace golfers and well kept sand traps.
Carts
Not enough carts and way to slow of play let to many people out at one time
wheres the marshall?
had a bad day at this course due to lack of knowledge of the players in fron t of us. paid for 18 but left after 9 due to back up of players. wont be back to this mess of a golf facility.
Not Worth the $20!!! Avoid This Course!!!
I had a tee time on a Wednesday little after 11am. It took 4.5 hours to finish this executive course. They booked way too many groups and there was no marshal to enforce slow play. This type of pair three course should not take any longer than 2.5 hours.
As for the course its self what a mess. The tee boxes where so hard I couldn't put a tee in the ground without break it. Finally I just started to hit off the ground. The greens were super hard and super fast.
When you see the price of $20 you will think sweet great deal, but it's not. Spend a few more bucks and play at a real course that doesn't over book and you can actually put tees in the ground.
Fun coarse
This was a fun executive coarse. The greens were punched but it was still great practice for the short game. I like the layouts off most of the green, especially on holes 12 through 18.
Ground was way to hard
First time paying here since the renovation. The ground really needs to soften up for such a short course. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were extremelyyy firm! Almost too short now due to the land restrictions from the added real estate. The only clubs I hit the whole day were a 53 wedge, p wedge, 5 and 6 iron and driver. Feels good to drive the green on 17 and 18 though! Risky shot, but reachable for longer hitters at 268 and 290 from the back tees. This course will be great when it softens...btw they are still renovating details of the club so probably will be better in winter.
First Executive Course in the OC
I graduated from CSUF 15 years ago. My first OC course ever was Birch Hills. The memories of this course were a bit choppy. I played it once and really liked it. However, given the passage of time, I only remembered the shopping centers to the south of the course. I didn't remember a fairway, a tee box, or a green. I just new the place existed and it had been closed for renovation for some time. Well, I played Birch a few days ago and it was a delight. It is an executive course. There is no desputing this fact. I liked the design. I enjoyed my round. It is exceptionally kept. My son loved the course. Enough said.
great for beginners.. "I boggied 5 times" and "pared oonce"
not very challenging .. great for an executive course and working on your short game.
Brand new so very well kept up, have new carts as well.
all around a fun "little, Quick Course"..
the Back 9 is a lot nicer.
Refurbished birch hills shines
I was curious to see what was done to the executive course over the last year, it's a far more interesting track now, even though it still has a large number of short par 3s. None of them are the same and none are pushovers, especially with new, firm greens. Still a short game challenge, but I think the price increase is bit excessive.
Matthew,
First, thank you for coming out to Birch Hills and we do apologize about your recent experience. We certainly strive to provide a fun and efficient playing experience.
We are currently in the process of constructing a new green on #9 and the new green should be open in the very near future. The bunkers are tended to on a daily basis and the crew has done a great job edging them. That said, we are currently checking various sand depths to ensure consistent playability. Pace of play is always a top priority at Birch Hills and though we will allow fivesomes during slower periods of the day, we encourage them to allow faster players to play through or pick up their ball in order to keep pace. It’s a fantastic golf course for the kids but that means it’s a great place for them to learn the rules and etiquette as well.
We sincerely appreciate your input as it is valuable information in helping us continue to make improvements at Birch Hills. We are confident we will meet player expectations moving forward. We hope to see you again very soon.
Thank you,
