Too many cart path only holes
Number of cart path only holes slow play. About 10 cart path only including par 3’s. Several par 5’s cart path only. This was a dry day with no clear reason for cart path only. Bone jarring cart paths that need repair. Be sure to book chiropractor day following play.
The pace of play was slow
The pace of play was too slow due to cart path only. There was no need for cart path only. 90 degree rule would have been fine and helped with the pace of play. Apparently, they have cart path only more often that not. The cart paths are in awful shape and probably isn’t doing the golf cart maintenance any favors.
St. Marlo is in excellent condition. Nice layout.
St. Marlo is in excellent condition. Has a nice layout. The pace of play was great and the staff are friendly and do an excellent job. Highly recommend this course.
Great course
Friendly staff allowed my kid to ride along at a less busy time. Great time
Third time playing this course
I like this course, if I wasn’t a golfnow member probably wouldn’t play due to price point. Started raining on the 13th hole, lightning whole nine yards. Will play again.
Great course to play!
The only issue with the course are the cart paths. Need to drive a little slow to navigate bulging portions of the path. Seems to be general damage throughout the cart paths.
Fun day
Have played here before . . . Course was in near perfect conditions. Greens and fairways were in super conditions. Only one tee box was not up to standard. Never really played there when the course was not in good to very good shape.
Good course. This was the first time I played here, and I shot a 74.
The greens were a little slow, but they rolled true.
The fairways were in great shape.
There was no reason for the course to have been path-only; in fact the paths are in horrible condition, and beat up the carts and your lower back!
The 8th and 9th holes are weird and terribly designed holes, although I did birdie #9.
The course is pretty.
One big gripe I have is that I was playing as a single player, and I was told by the starter and by the guy in the pro shop that I was forbidden from playing through the group in front of me.
Good Course
This was my first time playing at St. Marlo. I am a member of a private County Club, given the facilities and conditions, I am surprised it is semi-private. The club house and pro shop are nicely appointed but a bit aged. Course conditions were very good when I played (90 degrees in July). The only 2 issues I had were the conditions of the greens and cart paths. Greens were very slow and not well taken care of. I assume that is due to the amount of play it gets. Cart paths are in need of repair. It was CPO the day I played and let me tell you... IT IS ROUGH! They have marked the paths with red and yellow paint denoting where you need to slow down. Cart paths who cares... right? Seriously, it's a real issue when it is CPO.
Greens and Cart Path Only
Upon arriving, golf shop staff were a little short and not very welcoming, almost as if it was a bother we were there. We then discovered it was cart path only from very minimal rain the night before. We shook it off and proceeded to pay and continue onto the driving range only to get to the range and see we were hitting off carpet. We thought it was strange being that the grassy part of the range seemed almost untouched or torn up from excessive use. We started our round with two other gentleman and realized on the first hole it was going to be a long, miserable round with it being cart path only. The course terrain is not set up for an easy walk to and from balls unless you hit the ball right next to cart path. The groups in front of us struggled and caused delays at each of our tee boxes throughout the round. 5 1/2 hours to be exact!!. It was not because of anyone being bad golfers, all in our group were average golfers with good fairway shots and approaches. It just took forever because of the cart path only which no one in the group could understand why. The course was not wet, it was actually quite dry.
As we progressed in the round and got on the various greens, we all were shocked at how bad they were from neglect of golfers not repairing ball marks. The balls upon putting them bounced like a basketball and darted left our right. You never felt like you could get a true putt.
Overall, the layout was great and challenging, the course, except for greens, were kept great. We just felt it was a little overpriced. Would love to play it again when it's not cart path only and once the greens are better repaired.
Good challenge
This course is in great shape. It’s certainly challenging with lots of terrain changes. Worth the trip there to play.
Overall great day…!
It was wet from rain the day prior, but I have to say they’ve done a great job keeping the grass lush and green. A few t boxes could use some TLC, but the weather lately has been very challenging. The new cart with GPS are a big plus.
Breath of fresh air
I had seen St Marlo on Golfnow for years, but didn’t know if it was worth the drive from Acworth. I have to say the course is in better condition than white columns, echelon, and some other high dollar courses. The layout is a work of art. The stonework all over the course sets it apart from an average course that overcharges.
My first time playing it I didn’t find it incredibly difficult yet still challenging. You have to strategize and hit shots. I’m glad I decided to play here and get away from the same ole beaten up tracks.
Tee boxes-A, Fairways-A, Staff-A+, Greens B+, Bunkers-B-.
Grades below A are only because players don’t think they need to take a trap or fix a ball mark. Must be maintenance’s job. No it isn’t, take care of this gem and make it enjoyable for more people besides yourself!
Nice course!
Beautiful course in excellent condition. Pace of play was awesome as we completed our round in just over 4 hiurs.
