Great course, amazing layout
Loved the course. It was in great shape and loved the layout. I can't understand why a all bucket of range balls isn't included in the price but seems to be pretty common at a lot of courses. The biggest issue is pace of play. Took the better part of 5 hours to play 18 on a Monday afternoon but again, a common issue at most courses.
I will definitely play here again and really enjoyed the course.
Painfully Slow
Took almost 5hrs to get through 18. Not sure I want to play here anymore.
Nice layout , challenging and has some good challenges.
Course was in good shape other than the greens need some attention , they were long which is a shame because the rest of layout was fun to play.
Speed of play was good for a weekend - Teed off at 1.00pm and was done at 4.20 Traffic seems light on the weekend after lunch .
Staff very helpful and polite.
Love this environment and coarse layout. I recommend ST Marlo to all my golf buddies as a must go play, a true challenge and a major golf experience.
Great Layout Bad Greens
Really unfortunate because the course layout is nice but the greens have more fur on them than a grizzly bear and more imperfections than Michael Jackson's face. What shocked me the most was the putting green it had gaps and crevasses and holes all over the place, nobody cares about this place and it shows. Best way to describe the condition is a bunch of children play there every day and never rake a bunker or fix any ball marks on the green. It is comical and sad and the same time.
Greens were in poor condition
Course tee's OK, Fairways were good, Greens were the worst they have ever been here. Extremely slow and had a number of bare/sandy spots.
Awesome course, great staff!
Loved playing here. Great courses, great condition, and friendly staff. Pace wasn’t super fast due to a slow 4some on front but overall moved fast enough. Wouldn’t hesitate and come out again (and want to!)
St marlo
Love this course but pace was so slow the round seemed to take forever. Very challenging course to play but fun.
Not worth the money
I'm very familiar with this course as it's been in my neck of the woods for the last 15~ years. It's gone down the hill over the last 5+ years. Cart paths have always been bad but they're making constructions right now to fix some of the back-breaking patches but that's the least of my concerns.
Tee box: most need repair or grass mowed. They're uneven in many places. @St. Marlo, pour some of your crap sand from the bunkers onto the tee box to level it out and pour some decent sand into your sand traps.
Bunkers: speaking of traps, bunkers are inconsistent from hole to hole. I didn't go into every bunker, but the few that I found myself into, they had to be played differently. Some are firm, some are soft, some with sand, some too much sand. Poor maintenance.
Greens: playing by yourself? no problem. You have 100 geese to play with on the greens, unattended divots to navigate around, poorly maintained greens. They're not the slowest but do not roll true. It has such a potential to be amazing (again) and for the money that they're charging, you would think they'll invest a bit. Greedy management/owner is my guess.
Fairways and rough - it is what it is. It's got enough grass, It's no where near perfect, but you wouldn't be here complaining over these anyhow. They're good enough.
Service staff - you'd have the least amount of interaction with these guys but when you do, you realize they hire retirees from the DMV. Bunch of stubborn folks who think they're doing guest a favor of playing their course. I asked one question "how are the greens there nowadays" and the answer I got was "we've not heard any complaints - they're good. with a little giggle, why does that matter?" is the reply.
Carts: newer carts, in great shape.
Overall value: worth $40. Nothing more. After the pandemic, you'll find golf rates have taken a hike, major inflation. It's OK in most places though because the quality/condition elevated as well. Price/worth is justfiable in many places, but not here. Don't waste your money at St. Marlo, look else where unless you can find a deal for under $40. Pack a few cans of beer in your bag, don't spend a dime more at the club and maybe $50 could be worth it.
Great Course
I played an evening round here and was pleasantly surprised. Pace of play was great as my round only took around 3.5 hours. All of the staff was extremely nice and helpful in every encounter I had with them. Tough but fun course layout and the conditions were good. The only negative thing I have to say is about the cart paths. The path has lifted and sank in many areas causing a pretty rough ride. However, they are actively fixing this issue by replacing parts of the cart path that have been damaged. Overall I had a very enjoyable round and I plan to be back often.
Pristine!
This place is in outstanding shape. Greens are fast and the course has been maintained beautifully, fantastic place for a round of golf. Cart paths are being worked on for upgrades...
