A real shame this course has been let go.
I have played this course for 20 plus years. I love the course and the layout.
It is so unfortunate to see how St. Marlo’s has been totally let go by the owner(s). The greens are in brutal shape (probably a total loss in the next few weeks) - the fairways are burnt out and dry - the bunkers are in terrible shape (no sand in a lot of them - weeds growing - never raked by the staff) - tees boxes are in rough shape - carts paths are AWFUL (need to be completely redone) - maintenance as a whole is just terrible.... it used to be so well manicured and maintained,
A shout out to the front of house golf staff - super nice and customer focused - well done!!
To the owner: do the right thing - sell it - sell it now and let someone who cares about golf and the course put it back in proper shape.
Not sure when we will ever go back - just a shame......
Resort layout, sad state
I really enjoy the layout of this course. Reminds me of a resort course. It is a crying shame it's in such a sad state of disrepair. The greens are hacked up, the cart paths require a 4x4 to navigate. The only other time I played it, there was zero sand in the bunkers. It's too bad. I'd play here more often. As it is, it's a last ditch destination.
Nice Change
Ready the reviews and knew that their sand traps were in poor condition but other than that, my son and I had a great round. Really enjoyed the hospitality and the course. Great to play something different. For the price I was totally fine with he condition of the Sand traps because the course was is nice condition.
Nice Day at St Marlo
Course is in great shape. Thick plush rough. 17 of the 18 greens were great and fast.
I'll be back soon
Beautiful course
Challenging but forgiving with very interesting topography. Beautifully maintained. Cart path condition could be better.
Horrible
This course is horrible! Staff is awful and rude and does not know what they are doing. Pace of play is slower than average people playing are the worst ever i was hit into twice by the group behind me even though we were not taking long
Sloppy
First thing when I pulled up to get my cart , the cart guy said take this one ( the one I got was full of trash and Coke bottles and soda all over it which we both stared at and he went on his way so I cleaned the cart before the round)
Second we had a 2:30 tee time and which we were there at 1:45 to warm up , the starter knew we were there And ready 15 mins beforehand and he let 2 members who didn't be have a tee time because the course was fully booked, sneak in front of us ( so there was a 2:20 group our group at 2:30 and a 2:40 group) and when I asked the starter if we can please not let that happen he then said " you boy and hurry and go ahead to the tee box and get off quick"
Saying this to a group of men who acatully paid for a tee time and wait there turn to play 18 behind the 2 slowest members and then sanwhiched between them and the 2:40 group on top of US every shot. So rude and annoying
Now the course was full of geese dung, divets ALLLLLL over the green .
The cart path felt like I was on the Earthquake rollercoaster at universal R.I.P
Then the same starter that screwed us over had the nerve to tell Us while we were on the tee box about to hit that we weren't parked over far enough for him to make a cuasual driver Thru ......disgusting
Overall don't go to this
Saint Marlo would be ashamed
Good Course
Nice layout of fairways with many scenic holes. Sand bunkers are under much needed repair. Don't know what is taking so long. Hope they follow the repairs to include the awful cart paths.
It's just... meh..
I have friends that i play golf with that just rave about this course. My initial impression is that I can take it or leave it. it's nothing special. The staff members I encountered were great, in particular, Matt, who works at the bag drop. The course routing was good and they have a nice option on the scorecard to play from a mix of the blue and white tees, to make the yardage appropriate for your skill level. It also adds some challenge, so that you just can't bomb a driver off the tee - you'll need to think your way around a little bit. The biggest concern for me was just course condition.
Several tee boxes had large dead areas, lots of ball marks on the greens that were not repaired, and if you aren't busy trying to clean up all the ball marks on your line, your sweeping goose droppings. The bunkers even worse- I've seen bunkers on abandoned golf courses that are in better shape than this. These bunkers are an afterthought for the maintenance team. I know since rakes are not out due to the pandemic, most players are not hitting out of the bunkers, but the maintenance team could at least drag the bunkers every morning. and yes, the cart paths are not in the best shape, they should be addressed as well. Did I mention that the practice tee is still hitting off of mats in the middle of July? 3 perfect grass tiers of practice area just being wasted. This place could be top notch, its just needs some attention to detail.
