About

This stunning resort on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean is rightly known as “The Pebble Beach of Japan. Located only 75 miles south of Tokyo, Kawana features a 140-room hotel in the tradition of imperial art deco and 240-acres of dramatic golf. The Oshima Course dates to a 1928 design by the father of Japanese golf design, Mitsuaki Otani. His routing is typical of the era before Western influences was evident – tight, intimate, with many blind shots and the occasional drama looking out towards the Pacific.

Quirky, memorable classical Japanese course

Here's a layout dating to 1928, before the advent of links-inspired design by virtue of the Englishmen who taught the country Classic-era course design. Oceanfront Kawana Resort is spectacular; it's Oshima Corse decidedly second tier compared to its compatrio, the famed Fuji layout. This one is strictly a warm to it, but en engaging one.
