Nice course layout, but they should let players know when they punch greens, bad t boxs, needs improvement
I zipped thru this round, but kept wondering why they let golf now the condition of the greens hince punched and ratty t boxs, especially when u drive 1 and half hours to get there, I'm not recommending this course to my golf buddies.
I just wish the staff was a little more courteous when we go in to verify our tee time...
Beautiful!
One of, if not the most beautiful golf courses in the valley. Super friendly and helpful staff, and the course is in great shape, especially considering how much rain they received this year!
Great course
I just love the views. Very challenging course and awesome place to play golf. Its very relaxing and beautiful.
River Island Golf Course
The course was under construction in some spots but it did not interfere with the round. the greens were in fantastic shape. the greens were lightning fast and they were wet. I can only imagine how faster they get in dryer conditions.
Closed due to flooding
We drove an hour to play and discovered it had been flooded out for several days. THANKS for the "Heads-UP" !!!!
Great Place to Play
I drive from Bakersfield (55 miles) for this round and it was a perfect day. The course is in fantastic shape with perfect greens. Don't hesitate if you get a chance to play River Island. Loved it!
Foothill golf at its BEST!
River Island has always been one of my FAVORITE places to play and I have been playing golf for over 30 yrs. and in several different states. The course is a Great challenge especially from the "TIPS". I have also enjoyed the wildlife while playing their. My partners and I have seen Deer and grey squirrel on many occasions, but one day we seen a good size Mt.Lion. This course has it all :)
Excellent layout for any level of player.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Course was in good condition with the greens moderately fast. Would recommend this course for play.
Love this course
I love the score but some of the green in the front nine we're very bumpy and in bad shape.
Great Course
This course is a hidden gem in the San Joaquin valley. Course has a beautiful landscape and is well maintained. Lots of trees and a river that runs through most of the course. Pace of play is good. Better than courses in Bakersfield. The staff is friendly and inviting. Greens are tricky. Drive for show putt for dough all day at this course. If you are in the area it's a must play.
Snow Capped Sierras
This time of the year the course is in prime condition. All the greens are rolling great and true. The fairways are greening up nicely and making for a challenging round. The scenery of the snow capped Sierras are just a bonus. The river that runs through the course is flowing fast and is a blessing to all the area and course. There is not another course within 100 miles that can compete for the price and quality. Very personable staff and nicely appointed club house with a great view of 18 for a cold refreshment after the round..
Great Place to play
I played around 2pm. The pace of play was a breeze, fairways and greens were excellent.
Winter update
The winter conditions lowered my rating to three stars. Greens are in good shape but slower than normal. Fairways are dormant, which is not a problem in the winter. The tee boxes however were in poor shape. We played the blues and there were multiple holes where we literally had to play off dirt/sand topped soil as there was no grass. I know this course and the conditions are normally very good. Once the winter and/or rain subside it will get back to it's regular level of quality conditions.
The layout is always challenging and the staff is always friendly every time we play.
I highly recommend driving out to Porterville for a round.
Outstanding
Excellent equipment, professional staff, and a stunning course. The course reflects it's surrounding mountains with rolling hills and a few creeks. The tee box lacks a preview of the hole landscape, so hazards are sometimes hidden by the rolling hills mentioned earlier.
Great course and layout
First off, the cost to play was just awesome. Took my daughter golfing for her first time, and we had a blast. Due to the water storage, the fairways were dormant, but every thing else was great. Marshall on duty needs to work on some of the golfers etiquette, in regards to letting people play through, and fixing their divots. River Island is one of my favorite courses.
Nice course/slow play
I would diffently play this course again. The greens were awesome, got the ball rolling easy, the only draw back is there wasn't a marshal to speed up a very slow foursome in front of me & my wife. We barely finished before dark with a starting time of 12:54.
Fabulous foothills layout
The course offers a nice challenge and a beautiful location. The fairways are greening up nice despite the drought and the greens are almost flawless.
Awesome Golf
River Island is a great place to play by yourself or with a group. The scenery is beautiful with the Sierra Nevada mountains in the east side of the course. The staff is very kind and helpful. There is a bar with great food. The greens are always in perfect condition. The course is challenging and fun!
