beautiful and ugly
This is really a nice coarse and often overlooked in this area. Unfortunately, the greens have been tormented over the past few years by a fungus they can't seem to shake. Thankfully it looks like they are making a considered effort to finally get the greens repaired.
Great course but greens have suffered
I’ve played this course many times. It is in a nice location next to river. Staff is great but course needs some work though. Greens were really tore up. The good news is they look like they are putting money back into a course and trying to make it better. Hopefully after spring, it will be looking much better. I would love to play again when the greens are better.
I have played sherwood for years. It's a beautiful course in a beautiful setting. Although the last couple years has been unkind to the greens, there has been a great effort by the current staff to over come the green issues.
Most greens have been resodded and are ready to play. While greens are repaired a temporary green is provided in the fairway.
The staff were very friendly and told me about course conditions and goals for the future.
The course is very playable now and will only get better as time goes bye.
Worst Course I have Ever Played
Sherwood used to be decent but it looks like a greens keeper hasn’t worked there in years. Greens are unplayable, fairways are just as bad. If you like putting through craters then this is the place for you. The 2 pins places in the middle of the fairway is an absolute joke. With the current conditions they should be charging $15 or less. I won’t be back here ever again unless they get new ownership and new greenskeepers. I would be embarrassed to work here. Would have been nice to know beforehand that only 2 of the greens were playable.
This place is a joke.
Ah, Sherwood Forest Golf Course, where the greens get their trim from a cheese grater instead of a lawnmower! Truly an innovative touch. If you’re looking for lush, vibrant fairways, think again—unless your idea of lush is about as alive as Mathew Perry. They might want to consider a sponsorship deal with a spray paint company next season.
Now, let's discuss our unexpected cardio session. Despite Mother Nature’s decision to open the floodgates, the staff decided that pre-paid carts were mere relics of myth, akin to unicorns and efficient government. So, shuffling on foot it was! Requesting a refund was met with more resistance than a cat at bath time, with an insistence on their inability to do so. Talk about a plot twist in this adventure! To make it worse it wasn’t even that wet out. The ground was about as dry as RFKs throat after some dumb thing comes out of his mouth.
And oh, the pièce de résistance: the creatively redesigned "greens." Two particular masterpieces were 70-yard short masterpieces, reimagining golf by placing a hole and pin right smack in the middle of the fairway. It’s like the ultimate prank, brought to life!
Do yourself a favor and keep your $50 for a more fulfilling golf experience, like at Blackbeards. At least there, the greens there are genuinely in better condition.
When it comes to golfing experiences, Sherwood Forest is where innovative concepts meet comedic tragedy. Unless you fancy partaking in a terrible round of golf, keep looking!
Needs a new greenskeeper
I hate to leave a review like this because I have been coming here for over 30 years and really like the employees, but this course has had issues with their greens for a couple of years now. It's almost like putting over potholes. I think that 3 out of the 18 greens were in good shape, but the rest were horrible.
We teed off at 10:00 am and finished at 3:00. We had a foursome in front of us that was playing a 2-man scramble but were just screwing around and taking their sweet time. By 14, the group in front of them was on 16. On 15, we said something, which got a look. One guy said to his buddy "Should we let them play through?" And his buddy without hesitation, said "Nope" and drove off. We saw the Marshall on the front 9 but would have been nice to see him on the back to speed them up.
Just think that if your greens or course are torn up, you should NOT be charging full price to play it.
Worst greens in the Central Vally
Putting lines through divots and sand. Good luck. It’s fair if you add 2 strokes to every whole to make it a par.
Greens unplayable
Seems as though nobody knows how to maintain a golf course here. Take more than a lawn mower. The greens are horrendous. You are putting through dirt and sand more than half of the greens. This is worse than most municipal courses. Don’t bother trying to read a green when your ball bounces left to right 3 to 4 inches in any direction during a putt. How they can feel okay charging money to play a course in this condition is beyond me. Seems as though nobody out there cares anymore. It’s sad because it use to be a pretty nice course.
Grass conditions below average
This course needs to fix the conditions of a couple of green areas immediately.
Hope they fix the course soon, kind of embarrassing to charge the community the money to play a course that is realistically unplayable on 16 of the 18 greens. Atleast drop the price.
