About
Located in Longmont, the nine-hole, municipal Sunset Golf Course is a great, affordable option for beginners and families. Opened in 1924, it is one of Colorado's oldest golf courses. Although experienced golfers may not find it challenging enough, the course provides an excellent spot to practice your short game and it is definitely one of the most scenic courses in the area with beautiful views of Long's Peak. The par-34 course covers 2,981 yards from its longest tees. The terrain of Sunset Golf Course is quite hilly and the tree-lined fairways are very narrow. No water hazards come into play but the course is well-bunkered. The signature hole is the par-4 fourth hole.

Lush and green!
After a rough winter, Sunset is looking great after all the recent rain. The only omit would be #2 green. Although still somewhat bare/bumpy in areas, the recovery from (basically scalped) has been good.

Great Course
We have played this course multiple times. It is usually in pretty good condition, but this time it was excellent! It does help with getting lots of rain on a consistent basis. We played on Father's Day, and was expecting slow play, just because it was a holiday. But it was nice and steady, did not have to wait a large amount of time, when we did have to wait. Met a great guy from Arizona that was paired with us. He liked the course, his first time playing it.

Even in the pouring rain
Even in the pouring rain, this course is always a blast and isn’t as intimidating for beginners. I’ve brought a few buddies here looking for a larger challenge than a Par 3 without the intimidation of a full course. Highly recommend and always have a great time here. Course is also well maintained this time of year!

Worn out.
Something has happened. Maybe it’s too early in the season but the turf is in bad shape. Freezer burn? Greens with bald spots. Never have seen it this bad in the five hears we’ve been coming here. .

Expected more
First time golfing at this course and it will unfortunately be our last time. I understand that it is a city course but I guess I was expecting more after reading some of the reviews.
Clubhouse- the good news- offered food & drink. The bad news- similar to the course, it was very tired and run down.
The course was in really rough shape. I understand I golfed in April but everything was needing upkeep. Hazards, greens, tee boxes, etc. were all in poor shape. The course layout felt dangerous as several of the fairways are VERY narrow and balls were flying around from various directions. Several times we heard balls hits trees and then ricocheted towards us. Really tough to keep your focus while feeling like you are playing in a game of dodge ball.
I really hope the City of Longmont starts putting more money into this course. It is in tough shape across the board.
