Nestled at the base of the Ko'olau Mountains in Oahu, Royal Hawaiian Golf Club enjoys a stunning tropical setting framed by ancient jungle trees that climb to more than 100 feet tall. The father-and-son team of Pete and Perry Dye designed the course. There are many telltale signs that this is a Dye course, from the many elevation changes to the varied bunker styles that are utilized throughout. The round begins with stunning views as you plunge downhill into the Maunawili Valley. There are more trees and narrower fairways on the front nine, contrasting nicely with the wide-open back nine. Royal Hawaiian Golf Club's back plays towards the mouth of the valley, offering a view of the mountains and sparkling blue Pacific waters in the distance. It's not an overly punishing golf course but locals and visitors alike have called it the toughest and most scenic course you'll find on Oahu.

It's a beauty!

The golf course is definitely challenging, beautiful views, tough greens. The starter was so friendly and gracious. The only negative experience I had was the the pro shop guy/kid was not interested in helping and appeared to me he dislikes his job.

I would definitely recommend this course for an intermediate golfer, would be very difficult for a beginner. Enjoy and keep your head down.

Diabolical course

Royal Hawaiian is a diabolical course if you’re not precise off the tee. I was talking to the starter prior to the round and he warned the course was tough. When I asked him if a dozen balls were enough for a 20 handicapper, he laughed and told me to get.a dozen more. I bought 6 more balls and that wasn’t enough. Luckily, I found a lot of ball looking in the rough. Speaking of rough, there is no way of finding YOUR ball in the heavy thicket. Every hole in the front 9 is lined with trouble: be it water or thicket. Despite the difficulty, the course itself is beautiful. So many scenic holes with majestic landscape. Would play again with more balls or better game.

Incredible Setting

The jungle setting was amazing. Views were spectacular.

The course is tough in places but it was quiet and cart paths are perfect.

Bunkers were hard packed and greens had plenty of break for another challenge.

I'm coming back!

BEST STAFF EVER

As usual, the staff was great. The greens were like putting on velcro which made reading the greens super hard and the trade winds made keeping the ball in the fairways difficult. Resulted in 10 strokes more than normal.

Poor pace of play

Usually good course to play , but this round was terrible . Played the first 9 in 2.45 hours, then showed up on hole 10 and the group in front of us did not even tee off . Decided to quit and go back home …

Did not use to be like this, maybe this course needs a marshal
