Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course from Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills is the only 18-hole course at the facility. Designed by Frank Hummel, the course opened in 1959 and used to include the 9 holes of the Blue Course as the front nine. Currently however, both the Gold and the Blue are separate courses. The landscape of the Gold is hilly and seven ponds create a beautiful atmosphere while also adding challenging water hazards to eleven holes. Although the entire course is scenic, the 12th hole is considered to have the most picturesque views. Its elevated tee offers gorgeous vistas of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills is known not only for its gorgeous scenery, it has also received acclaim from golf publications such as Golf Digest.

Local Favorite
Hyland Hills is a local favorite with lots of available golf holes. With 2 nine hole par 3 courses, a 9 hole regulation course and the Championship 18 Hole Gold Course. The facility really does have something for anyone who loves golf or wants to learn the game.
The Gold Course offers lots of good holes and challenges throughout the round. This is a traditional layout with plenty of trees, a few lakes and also some streams to contend with. You get a few holes where you can get away with an errant drive and a few narrow holes where anything off the fairway will definitely cost you a stroke or two.
Even though the course has houses surrounding it, there are no holes where I feel that they are imposing, and no holes have houses on both sides of the fairways which is nice. It’s possible to knock a shot into someone’s back yard, but it’s gotta be a pretty bad shot. From the 11th tee you will have one of the better views around, overlooking the mountains to the west.
Besides the funky 18th that I wish they could redesign, the rest of the course is plenty fair and fun to play. The course is kept up well throughout the season and the greens have been in pretty good shape recently. The fairways and rough areas are plenty green.
I like coming to Hyland Hills, the price is right and the course is usually a joy to play as long as the pace is running good. Definitely a favorite of mine and my golfing buddies.
Nice fall 18 hole day
Lots of leaves on the course, hard to find balls even on the fairs. All in all a fun day on the course.
No mRshalls out
All the hacks comes out. I love and enjoyed my 5hr and 15min round of golf
One the best public courses in Colorado
I truly enjoy playing this course. The greens are great, the staff is attentive and the place is fun!
Rate of Play
The rate of play was extremely slow based on a couple of groups ahead of us. We notified the Ranges and management several times, but nothing was done to speed the groups up. Took over 5 hours for 18 holes.
18 holes with my buddy
Nice course, maintained decently and good staff. I have fun here every time.
Forst Delay
They started tee times to early for this time of year. Had a hour and half frost delay. Then they send everyone off 3 minutes closer per tee time to try and catch up. So now when you get on the course you hit and wait on every single shot since all the tee time are closer together.
Payed for 18 holes and only got through 14. Had to wait 15-20 minutes between each shot. Took us 2 and a half hours to get through 6 holes. The Marshall did nothing to keep up pace of play.
Simply the worst
Today I had perhaps the worst golfing experience of my entire life at hyland hills. I show up to check-in 30 minutes before my tee time only to be notified that it had been delayed by approximately an hour due to weather conditions. I was not notified about this at all prior to showing up, not even a simple email or phone call. Was told that I was expected to be teeing off an hour after my original tee time, but that they may call me up to the tee box sooner than that. That is wildly inconvenient. So I’m supposed to just sit around for up to an entire hour waiting for them to call me on the intercom? When I asked the woman in the pro shop if I would get a discount for my trouble she laughed as if I was a moron for even asking. Irritated, I figured I’d get a bite to eat at their restaurant since I couldn’t leave the course. I order spaghetti and meatballs, which cost 17.99. What they served me was perhaps the most unappetizing plate of food I had ever seen. Managed to force down about half of it before I couldn’t take anymore. When I was served the plate, the waitress told me that a salad came with my meal. Got the bill and the receipt showed that the salad was an additional charge of $3.99. Didn’t even want to deal with trying to argue with the lying waitress about it, so I paid in cash and went to hit some golf balls. Golf ball machine wasn’t working so I ask the attendant for help and was patronized for “not being smarter than the machine,” only for him to say one minute later that it was not working and he didn’t understand why. Go to hit my balls and after one ball they decide to call my group to the tee box. This was 30 minutes prior to when they told me I would be called up. Absolutely infuriating and the worst golf experience I’ve had in my entire life by a long shot. Obvious problems with management. Course is mediocre at best but green fees are a premium price. Don’t bother wasting your time or money at this absolute embarrassment of an establishment.
