Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills - Gold Course

We were backed up in every hole, so we finally had to give up last two holes. Took us 5 1/2 hours to finish 16 holes.

1. The course had us starting just after a SHOTGUN START tournament. There was no starter for the regular golfers— and they had no outside inter comm system that announced -so golfers didn’t know what T-time was up & on which of the 2 courses— it was not a pleasant start to the round.

2. The driving range was adequate— but hitting off mats—with Driver T’s way too short to properly set up. In addition, the automatic ball dispenser took CC— S, M or L buckets were for purchase— but no where was there any posting as to what the cost/ bucket size actually cost.

3. The rough was too long— any ball off the fairway was difficult, at best, to find— unless you were very close to its actual position. This, of course, slowed down the pace of the course play dramatically.

4. There were no visible Marshalls to help at any time.

5. I never saw a beverage cart— the Orange course snack shack between 9-10 holes was closed.

6. The practice areas were adequate for warmup & practice activities.

7. The Orange course was in really good shape, as were the greens & T boxes.

8. You are able to take the cart to/from your vehicle in the parking lot.

9. I was able to book the Orange course thru GolfNow @ a “hot deal” price of $43/player.

10. It really seemed silly to me that the yardage difference between the scorecard White & Blue T boxes was less than 200 total yards.There were many T boxes not being utilized throughout the 18 holes— there should be at least 400 yards difference between W & B Tee boxes. Such a change would definitely speed up the pace of play.

The course was in good shape, as usual. My only comment is the rough. Consistently 4 inches or more/ It is very frustrating to have to spend time, or lose a ball, when you know it is less than a foot off the fairway. It would also speed up play if golfers did not spend too much time looking for a ball that should be evident. I know the fairways are wide, but the rough is too penal. This is not a US open course.

Lots of really slow players, got stuck behind a group who had a lady that combed the rough on every hole looking for lost balls. Any hole with water she had her 8 foot ball retriever out. No marshals anywhere. Course is ok, price is right and that's probably what brings out the hackers and oddballs.

Took 5-6 hours to play! Called the front desk to see what was going on and he said they didn’t have a Marshall out and hung up! At one point 4 groups were waiting on the same hole! Last time I play this course!! This happens way too many times!! A lot of better courses all around that area to play!! Pass on this one!
