Richter Park Golf Course
About
Situated at the heart of Fairfield County, Richter Park Golf Course is situated along the West Lake Reservoir. The course has been ranked among not only the top ten golf courses in Connecticut but also as one of the top 25 public courses in the country. The course sprawls across more than 180 acres of gently rolling hills. Water has a prominent presence throughout, with the Reservoir bordering seven holes on the front nine and water hazards coming into play on a total of 14 holes. In addition to the water, there are a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic, which can make it a tough golf course to play your first time. Be prepared for a few blind shots. Richter Park's signature hole, the par-5 12th, is bordered by Boggs Pond. Your third shot will be over water to a bunkered green.

Richter Park during fall foliage Photo submitted by dplevin11 on 10/05/2013
Fun and challenging course
The course was in great shape. We only waited once the entire day. Play it every year in the Fall. Colors are beautiful.
Augusta of the North
Great layout. Very scenic though foilage is minimal this year. Greens are absolutely impossible...lightening fast and steeply sloped from back to front. Expect to 3 putt most of the time.
So slow
Great layout and greens were in great shape. But we were 8 deep on almost every tee box. It took almost 3 hours to play the front 9. A foursome can play 18 at my home course (also a muni) in less than 4 hours.
Lots of great holes. Scenic views.
This course was in exceptional condition. Greens were smooth and fast. I Would recommend this course.
Excellent course but expensive and slow pace of play
Always enjoy playing Richter but only when I can get a deal like I did with the prepaid on Golfnow, Too expensive for out of towners so I'll never pay their price. The course conditions were very good and the greens in nice shape. Only complaint was very very slow play. Only a threesome if front of us and we waited every tee box starting on 6. Then the twosome behind us waited on the tee box for us to hit. Unacceptable and really takes away from such a nice course. Also much to expensive given all the options golfers have.
Solid course
Holes on this course can be extremely challenging, especially if the wind comes into play. Not for the beginner or the faint hearted! Course in good shape for the amount of play and weather conditions this season. Peaceful even with # of players on the course. Very helpful and friendly staff including the rangers!
One of the best in the state
A fantastic course with plenty of challenge on every hole. It's in great shape. A little expensive for out of towners and we were slowed down by an outing, but they made it up to us with a 9 hole credit. Just a great day out!
Great place
Great staff
Course in great shape
Love this place
Really good
Only thing missing is built in range finder inside cart otherwise outstanding all the way around
Slow slow slow
Weekday afternoon 1:36 tee off time. Made the turn to 10 at 4:45. Unreal. Didn't see a course ranger the entire time. Un-repaired ball marks everywhere and at least 3 greens had serious damage. Looked like not a single person had raked their steps in the sand either.
Richter Park
Play here often, course in best shape its been in years. Greens are spectacular. Better keep it below the hole !!!Where ever you are coming from, its worth the trip.
Nice course, oddly slow this Saturday
Played Richter with my buddy whom I play with weekly. It's been a couple of months since we found a deal worth playing Richter for. We tee'd off at 3:06 and started with a great front 9. The back got a little out of hand with a rude 4-some in front of us who refused to let our very fast 3-some play through. We had to wait every single hole, and not once did a ranger or anyone from the course happen to come by. If they had we certainly would have mentioned that they should be letting us play through! Aside from that (very very annoying since the course was not that busy) the conditions and everything was as expected. This is a nice course, and is fun to play for the right price. But to play a 5 hour round when it was almost empty out there, all because of one rude group in front of us... was a bitter taste in our mouths. Wish they did a better job of monitoring their course and pace of play
Slow twilight round
Overal a great public course, but rangers are nowhere to be found and are needed on busy days. Group in front of us was over a hole behind next group and backed up pace behind us quite alot. Course itself is one of better public courses is the local area.
superior public golf course
This ranks in the top five of public golf courses that I have ever played. Course is magnificent shape.. tees, fairways, and greens. Layout was awesome with 13 holes around a large lake. only 3 miles off exit 5 0f i-84 and very near hotels and places to eat. Golf Now got us 21.00 off the weekend rate.
On most "best courses" list for a reason
Terrific course that deserves it's perennial appearance on several "best public course" lists. However … it is difficult, especially for those over the 18-handicap range. As a visiting golfer, it would have been helpful to have a "yardage book" for sale in the Pro Shop. It would have been money well spent! (A suggestion for all courses looking to attract visiting golfers. Other than playing with a local who knows the course, "yardage books" are essential.)
