Richter Park Golf Course
About
Situated at the heart of Fairfield County, Richter Park Golf Course is situated along the West Lake Reservoir. The course has been ranked among not only the top ten golf courses in Connecticut but also as one of the top 25 public courses in the country. The course sprawls across more than 180 acres of gently rolling hills. Water has a prominent presence throughout, with the Reservoir bordering seven holes on the front nine and water hazards coming into play on a total of 14 holes. In addition to the water, there are a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic, which can make it a tough golf course to play your first time. Be prepared for a few blind shots. Richter Park's signature hole, the par-5 12th, is bordered by Boggs Pond. Your third shot will be over water to a bunkered green.

hidden gem...almost
My 1st visit of the year, after hearing of the damage and slow return of greens. The greens are definitely playable but small areas of damage is present. Some greens have thin coverage but doesn't affect play. Overall greens rolled well, speed and line but are still recovering.
What bothers me most, and this is of all courses is he sad fact that WE THE GOLFERS DO NOT MAINTAIN OUR PLAY IE DIVOTS BUNKERS!!!
I could not find 1 bunker properly racked let alone w/o footprints. Greens always have unrepaired divots. Don't you all realize we are also responsible for the conditions of a course???
Put this course on your must try list
I've yet to have a bad experience at Richter Park. The staff is well organized and friendly. The course has just the right amount of challenge to it that should make for a enjoyable round of golf for any handicap. Expect elevation changes from tee to green and shots where water can come into play. The greens can get a little bumpy and some fairways soggy at times which is why I gave it three instead of four or five stars. Course conditions should not be surprising given that it is a public course. Prism tape on flagsticks, Igloo water coolers, marshalls keeping pace of play, food shack at the turn, nice cart girls and two practice putting greens by the first tee. The small driving range is for lessons only. The 19th is also a fine place to end your day. They even offer a replay rate if 18 holes is not enough for you.
Pricey for conditions
Bumpy greens with some bare spots but they run pretty true
A few fairways need work
The pace of play was terrible took over
5 hrs to play
Picturesque layout
GREAT COURSE WITH WATER
Richter is a great golf course for all player types. It has some great par 3'sand awesome greens placed right behind water which pumps your adrenalin. I heard the greens were not that good early in the year, however they have come back, and are running fast and true. I recommend playing this course to anyone looking to have a challenging but fun round.
Overall Very Good
Enjoyed playing Richter. First time this year. Greens are slow but overall in fairly good condition. Fairways were very good. Sand bunkers not so much.
awful greens
RP is a terrific golf course, however the greens are in poor condition.
reagrding my tee time, they did not have it. good thing I had my conf #...
Shaggy Greens
Richter Park used to be one of the top public facilities in the country. Not anymore. The greens are the worst I have played in 50 mile radius. They are shggy, bummpy and inconsistent. It is a shame for such a picturesque layout. The condition of the course does not align with the price they charge. Every other course in the area is in better condition and a better value for the money. Save your money and go play other courses until Richter brings itself back to a top notch facility. I have putted fairways at other courses that roll better than Richter's greens.
I'll be back
I had heard Richter was a nice course and facility. Two things I would note. First the course has a visual beauty to it which I think always enhances the game. Second, course condition are top notch. I look forward to playing it again.
Slow day on the course
I was excited to play Richter Park because it's one of the best public courses in CT, but my group didn't even get to the back nine! It took us 2 1/2 hours to play the front nine due to some inexperienced and deliberate golfers. I have experienced this before, but we teed off at 5 PM! My trio thought we would be able to whip around in three hours, but it wasn't meant to be. With that said, the course was in pretty good shape (hadn't mown fairways and greens because of previous night's heavy rain). We are three experienced golfers - two of us with single digit handicaps - and, even from the back tees, we found the course very playable. I only wish we had gotten to the back nine because one of my playing partners said it was a much better nine. So....I would like to play the course again but only if I knew the pace of play would be regulated.
Richter Park
This is the second time we have played Richter Park this season. The greens were not up to their norman standard from last season. Very disappointed with the greens and overall condition of the fairways.
No cart girl
Course was excellent. They almost stopped us from bringing cooler. Good thing they didn't we didn't see cart girl until 18th fairway.
Great day in the country
This clup seems to be built in a nature preserve. The vistas were amazing . the course condition also exceptional, a little pricey but worth it.
Richter Park - Nice Course...but
The course is is good condition, especially for a public course. The course is very hilly so much so they use gas powered carts. However, the group in front of us was walking...something that should not be allowed, especially on the weekends. Took us over 5 hours to play a round. The group behind us got impatient and hit into us twice (not cool). There is not practice range to hit balls before your round which is also a bummer. Nonetheless, I would play this course again as it is one of the better public courses in CT.
It used to be amazing!
Greens are still in lousy condition. The current groundskeeper has ruined the course. The staff is very nice. The groundsmen have no golf etiquette and apparently were never taught. They are constantly mowing and weed whacking without concern for the players. Seriously, if they don't make a change with the people in charge of the upkeep and management of this once great course, they will be out of business. Too many people are starting to play elsewhere. My tax dollars are wasted here.
Horrible Monday experience
I booked a 530 tee time with a friend to try and get 18 holes in during a gorgeous afternoon, and we finished hole #9 at 845. It should never take 3+ hours to play 9 holes. Everyone seemed to know each other so maybe there was some sort of league play I was not told about or the starter just really messed up. While I waited to tee off on the 7th tee box the group ahead of me was up ahead in the fairway, they were waiting for the group ahead of them who was up ahead on the same hole, to the right of me were people on the 8th green, then up on the hill was people waiting to shoot on the 8th fairway. Everyone was either horrible at golf or nothing was spaced out correctly. The group in front of me also had two guys wearing sandals with no socks I felt like I was at a packed mini golf course.
It's not immune to the green destruction of winter 2014/15
It's a nice course, scenic and generally a well run municipal. There are a couple holes that Border on silly if you don't know the layout (I'm talking to you 6 and 8). I think their pricing went bonkers a few years ago when golf digest wrote them up as a top 100, especially for non residents. Way too expensive for what it was, but they seem to have subsided a bit on that price model and deals can be had. It's a nice course, but I never thought it was top 100 honestly.
The day of play I was surprised that no employee offered to load the bags or really do anything. I don't generally care, but Service normally does come at the higher reputation courses (but not here I guess). No big deal, but some might be unhappy.
Unfortunately though, the greens were just struggling. The front 9 was better than the back, which have burnt patches. They are not alone, this region was clobbered this winter and many courses lost the greens, but theirs are pretty rough still. VERY slow, very uneven, and full of hops and jumps. no good rolls to be had anywhere. Honestly, i think they were the slowest and bumpiest greens I've played in a long long time.
I hope they get them back. I'd still play here, but the price would have to be "right".
Great times with friends
Great round and weather greens are slow and in bad shape
Greens could be better!
I have not played this course in 11 years! Overall the course was in good shape, the greens have little to be desired, Slow Bumpy and Inconsistent! As the season goes on I'm sure I'll play it again in hopes of the greens returning to the condition I'm used to putting on there!
Overall I would recommend this course to your must play list!!
Hit them straight!!!
fun layout
The day was very enjoyable. The course is a fun and interesting course. Unfortunately the greens did not survive the harsh winter very well but advance notice was provided and reduced fees were charged, so no complaints should be posted. The greens will recover.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I played three premium courses in the last week and I completely agree. Local golfers need a swift kick...we are all responsible for leaving the course the way we found it!
