Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen

About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Great course, but awful pace
My friend and I play Blackledge regularly. The greens always roll great, the course is in very good condition, and the price is very reasonable.
The only drawback this week was the absolutely unmanageable 5 hour round. We saw a marshal once or twice on the course, but it wasn't enough. Spending 5-10 minutes waiting at the tee box was routine. This isn't normally the case, but it seems to be happening more.
For 20 bucks it can't be beat
Got a hot deal for 20 bucks and you won't play a better 18 for that price. Conditions were really good, but based on the 20mph winds it played a bit harder then normal. very playable course.
An easy decision to make
Definitely a must play. Great 18 hole course. Very challenging. You wont be disappointed.
Fun course, just pick the right tee time
Upon arrival at the course, it looked in great shape. It is a far walk from the parking lot to the pro shop to pay. Facilities were clean and nice. The staff member in the pro shop was friendly, knowledgable, and extremely courteous. Tee boxes were in very good shape, but there is little to no difference in length from Gold to White. The course conditions were very nice, with no disease on the greens. Pace of play can be a little slow. I saw no ranger monitoring pace and there were several walkers out on the course. Overall, its a very good value and i will be playing there again.
great golfing
First time playing the Anderson Glen course loved it . Can't wait to go back to blackledge golf course and play either course , perfect greens !!!
Anderson Course
Perfect weather day but this course is awful...no supervision out on the course...slow play...real shooting gallery with balls flying everywhere. Players around me had no idea how to play golf or how to act in this type of setting. Won't go back!
Fun Course
Of the two courses, the Anderson Course has always been my favorite with its variety of challenging holes ... Number 11 should be the #1 handicap hole!
Disappointed in pace of play
It was a lovely day, and the course was in good shape. But marring it was the extremely slow pace of play. My group of 3 on the front 9 waited on just about every hole, and on the back 9 I had to join up with another foursome just to avoid having to wait constantly. I saw a marshal just once. They space out the tee times every seven minutes. On a public course, on the weekend, that's just too frequent. Either use more marshals, or space out times so golfers aren't standing and waiting for as long as five minutes before every shot.
Open course
This course is pretty open but don't get too sloppy with your shots or you'll get punished...
Very good condition but slow play
Overall, it was a very enjoyable round at The Blackledge Anderson course. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good condition. Rough was a little thick but that's how it's supposed to be. Great value for this course.
Slowest round ever
3.5 hrs for 9 holes, why were there available tee times if they were backe up all day according to staff. Very disappointed usually a good course
Slooooow
After 3 hours on the front nine I almost walked off. I should have because the back took 2.5. I didn't see a ranger all day.
Ranger needs a lesson in manners
Have played here many times. The course is not know for pushing pace of play - I've had more 5+ hour rounds than I can count. On the 9th tee a Ranger came up behind us and scolded us for slow play (even though we were not being pushed by the group behind us, and we were ready to finish the front 9 in 2 hrs, 20 min, which is lightning fast for this course). Saying we had 2+ holes empty in front of us. He was borderline rude. No "could you please increase your pace?", it was "you guys better get moving or I'll have to ask you to skip holes to catch up." We finished 9 in a hurry, only to find the group in front of us still on the 10th fairway, and the group in front of them on the 11th tee. I doubt I'll come back, too many other good options to subject myself to that baloney.

I`ve played this course for about the last ten years perhaps 5 times each year. The staff has always been very courteous and professional. The course
is well managed and is always in good condition but
what stands out to me most is how the managers always seem to make a serious effort to improve the appeal of the club and repair damage caused by weather quickly. Many very challenging holes, excellent facilities very cordial staff.
Challenging course
Nice course that is always challenging.
They are currently making springtime repairs. It should look really nice in another month or so.
Pace of play can be frustrating starting at hole 3.
nice course
Course is in great shape . It would be nice to see someone keeping the opening in between groups smaller.
Teed off on back (1hr 10 min) came around to front (2hr 20 min)
31/2 hrs not bad but front could have been the same if not for gaps between groups
this course offers much
The course is conveniently located, is in great shape and is easy enough for the beginner and tough enough for an advanced player.
nice course
Anderson layout is comfortable, traps need sand.
staff was friendly.
Early season
For being open for a week and with the cold the course was great!!! Well groomed greens were nice and fairway grass was good. I'll definitely be back threw the year!!! All employees were great!
Mid April 2014
Front 9 slow, back 9 picked up. Fast greens! Tough pin placements! Best quality course out of 3 outings since beginning of April.
