Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

The third: A long hole that is also long on trouble. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Five, looking back on hole: challenging, uphill 374-yard four-par. (Greenside bunkers out of view from this angle). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Eight, from behind: A superb par-three. On the other side of the mounds are large bunkers to catch weak approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Great course, but slow play
I've golfed Blackledge several times and really enjoy the golf course. The conditions are well kept and the greens are in better shape than most. I also play in a league on Wed nights at Blackledge. The biggest problem this course faces is the constant slow play. I know it's a problem during its league play, but I was very discouraged about the 5+ hours of play yesterday. Management has been notified several times about the slow play over the year and they consistently do nothing about it. They seem to only care about the money coming in and not the etiquette part of the game of golf. If Blackledge management can get their act together and address this significant issue, my overall rating and outlook for this course will increase significantly.
nice place
Good course, challenging from the tips, fairways and greens well kept, few bare spots in the rough. Overall worth playing. I will go back...
Blackledge is a consistently a well maintained course.
One of my favorites in CT. Great value.
#12 on Gilead is a little bit a target golf.
Overall, this course has a lot of character and always has great greens and fairways.
Great course
Always a pleasure to golf at Blackledge. The course is in great shape and the pace of play was excellent.
good course,good greens,good condistion
As greens fees are costing more and more this with the help of golf now was a very good deal.
Great place
Loved it here, except for the slow play. Group in front of us was slow, but we jumped them at the turn with no issue.
Very Poorly Managed and Maintained
This course is very poorly managed and maintained. I played this course on 08/12/13 which was 3 days after a rain storm. Several buckers still contained standing water. The course was crowded and the pace of play was very very slow. It took 4 hours and 35 minutes to play 15 holes at which time I left. I called to Pro Shop at the 3rd tee and they sent a ranger to investigate. His response was that there was no problem. ARE YOU JOKING? The first 5 greens had 5 very different speeds and degree of smoothness. They watered the fairway while we were attempting to play the hole. We even got sprayed with the high pressure sprinkler while the maintenance man just looked on. The tee times are booked too close together which the average golfer is unable to main that pace. Be prepared to walk miles and miles on this course even if you rent a golf cart. This course is a joke and I will NEVER play it again.
This course was in great condition
This was the best course I have played at in the Hartford area. The condition of the greens were remarkable and the fairways and tee boxes were just as good. The course was really green and the clubhouse staff was very easy going and friendly.
Ample Distance
If you are looking for varying degrees of holes; this course is for you. Elevation changes, tee boxes set back, a chance to score low. I enjoyed every aspect of this tract.
Great course lacking upkeep
Great layout and good test of golf skills, but the fairways hadn't been mowed for I dont know how long. Fairways were like the rough at most courses. Rough was longer and snarly, which is fine to me. Greens slow, but pretty good shape. Most courses are struggling with upkeep, since nobody plays golf anymore.
course was in good shape
Ranger made frequent trips around course, but didn't do anything to speed up slow play.
Snack bar was not well stocked (not enough hot dog buns, didn't take credit cards, etc.) and this was on a Sunday
great greens
course was in very good condition however pace of play was way to slow, just under 5 hours
Course is in good shape
I play there often, the crews do a great job on the course and there is rarely any significant condition problems
This course is in great shape.
I found the staff very friendly and flexible. I arrived early and was able to tee off sooner than expected The course was in great shape and well manicured. I would definitely recommend this course to others.
Played Anderson's glen course. In good overall shape with very good greens.
First time playing. They include complimentary yardage books which is an nice touch.
Greens were great
Course is in nice cndition. Greens were excellent. Staff was great. Will definitely be back.
Good Practice Course
Although Anderson's Glen would never make your top 10 it qualifies as a very good practice course. Over the course of your round you'll hit all the shots. Alot of trees, sand and water give you ample opportunity to hit all the shots. Most fairways are ample, so if you are on your game you should be able to score. I was not and thus I did not! A good afternoon in 95 degree heat but with much shade. Will return to take revenge.
Slow Play, Again...
Always a slow day on either course at Blackledge, which is a shame since they are both nice tracts. No rangers or course management causes the play to get unbearably slow. The course needs to hire some rangers and enforce pace of play. I may just give up on this one and play elsewhere...
Great player's course
This course is currently in excellent condition. All the recent rain has everything very lush. This course is a great training course, offering a variety of shots and holes that range from very easy to challenging. Greens are always well kept, and putt consistently.
