Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

The third: A long hole that is also long on trouble. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Five, looking back on hole: challenging, uphill 374-yard four-par. (Greenside bunkers out of view from this angle). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Eight, from behind: A superb par-three. On the other side of the mounds are large bunkers to catch weak approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

A long time to be on the course when your used to playing in 4 hrs
I played this same course about 3 weeks ago with my son and it took 5hrs and 45minutes to play. This time it was 6 hrs. There is nothing wrong with the corse it was in good shape but 5 plus hrs to play is crazy The last time was a Tuesday and not a nice day. This time was a Saturday. The thing that was irritating was we were so backed up ( 2 to 3 foursomes on the Tee) nobody came out to speed-up play.I played Anderson both times.
Course in fair shape - Anderson Glen.
Two things to keep in mind...played Father's day afternoon and seemed everyone was out playing...hence the 6hr round!
Also, there have been heavy rain storms in region for most of early June, so the trap conditions were awful and hadn't even been dressed on the day we were there. Greens were slow (again, undoubtedly weather related), but generally course was in OK shape.
Maybe the Gilead course was in better shape?...but somehow doubt it. Still, it's close by and can usually get an OK deal to play, so hope by July course conditons improve.
Conditions and play.
The conditions were good but due to all the rain we've had fairways were wet and grass was long. Play could have been faster, wish marshalls were out to make people play faster.
Course is in great condition and well maintained
Played here a few times now and I'm really enjoying both courses. Staff is always great and the course is well maintained and in great condition.
Very nice course
Great value for this course. Would play it again!!
Great shape
Excellent shape, challenging layout, greens still need some growth after aeration but getting there
This course was in great shape
I was happy with the value for 45 bucks. The staff is great and the course was in great shape.
All around great value
Blackledge-Anderson Glen is a well maintained challenging course with friendly staff and very reasonable prices.
Good course an even better value
First time playing Andersen. Course condition is better than most especially the greens. Only objection is walkers slowed play.
A+++
Course was in great shape...well worth the money. Would definitely go back.

Awesome play not just for the price! Very well kept
Great course, Fast greens.
Great course, well maintained, fast greens. Cannot beat the layout.
Challenging course!
This course demands your A game. Drives need to be straight,
woods, irons and chips spot on. Putting is demanding due to the sloping greens and pin placements.. I'll be playing this layout again later in the season to exact my revenge. The course beat me this time. But it was a good experience!
Nice layout
Sand traps need to be rebuilt. Every time it rains the sides fall in and the water does not drain
Pleasant, walkable, and somewhat challenging course at a moderate price.
I have played at Blackledge for over 30 years mostly for 9 holes on weekday afternoons during the season. There are two courses: the original 18, now called Anderson and the newer Gilead course. The Anderson course, which I played most recently has always been a moderately challenging and interesting layout with some water, some hills, and many tree-lined fairways. It is very walkable and well laid out with most tees not very far from the previous greens. The par 5's are of moderate length and can be reached in two by lower HCP golfers with some risk of course which adds to the fun and enjoyment of this course. On the Friday afternoon we most recently played in May the pace of play was a bit slow at just over 4 1/2 hours.
Blackledge (both courses) is well maintained for a public course of its type (non-premium) in the area. Although the greens are generally on the slow side especially later in the summer, they are kept healthy and green throughout the year.
I am not a great fan of the other 18 hole course, the Gilead course. The front nine is decent but somewhat on the short side (2860 yards). The back nine is a "links" style course with several diabolical holes that have no reward, just risk! For example the par 5 12th hole can successfully be played with a 4 iron and two wedge shots to reach the green, but either of those wedge shots can end up in one of the two large ponds, one to the right of the fairway and one in front of the green. AND, if you overshoot the green though a stand of trees you end up in another fairway and can be totally shut out with absolutely no recovery possible. The next hole, a short par 3 is equally diabolical with no safe lay up shot possible to avoid the marsh to the right of the green and the stand of trees to the left. If you are "lucky" you can score well on the second nine but if you are not you can have a very bad day. So the back nine of the Gilead course is not my idea of an enjoyable round of golf! In fact some golf leagues who play regularly at Blackledge try to avoid it completely.
In summary, the Anderson course is moderately challenging, and walkable. The Gilead course although walkable has a frustrating and not very enjoyable links style back nine!
Great place to play, staff is super!
Minus the rain, everything was great. Course looks in great shape, all was good!
Good course
The course was well maintained. Greens are good. Pace of play for a Saturday morning was very acceptable. A good value.
great course
Always one of my favorite courses to pay even though it's about an hour away I don't mind making the trip a few times a season. I played with my father this weekend, we both thought the course was in good condition and we got done in a little under 4 hours. The only problem we had was the course Ranger telling us that we needed to pick up the pace, when coming off of the 16th green, because the group ahead of us was a whole hole ahead of us. We weren't holding anybody up, the group behind us was over 2 holes behind. After he told us this he stood there while we teed off to make sure we moved along faster. Made us both feel rushed and it seemed completely rude and unneeded.
This course was in very good shape.
Course was in very good shape. Some of the greens need a little work but fairways were very good. As always the price was great and the staff was friendly.
Breat Value Great Shape!!
Fun course very fair. Greens were in very good shape compared to others played recently. Both courses at the facility are great good for all levels and well kept!
