Course was in excellent shape and I pretty much agree with most of your other reviewers. Greens here are quite undulating and you pretty much never have a straight putt if you are anywhere outside of 3 feet. There are certain holes which are quite difficult to par, holes 3, 6, 7, and 16 for me specifically. I believe this would hold true for golfers of all levels.
The pace of play was excellent as we played under 4 hours but we did play on a weekday. I have found that the staff in the pro shop to always be courteous and accommodating.
All in all I find this course to be quite challenging and a good test of one's golfing ability.
wheres the ranger!!!
overall, not horrible. the 4 some 2 groups ahead of us was playing a match for $$$, and proceeded to play a insanely slow round. got thru the front 9 in 2:15. not bad for a saturday. the back 9 however, close to 3:30!!! 4some 2 groups ahead was playing a skins game, took easily 10 minutes on EVERY tee box figuring out $$$. ended up waiting stupidly long time for them. where is the ranger in a time like this? gives course bad name!
Good test, w/good greens
Whitney Farms is a good test any golfer. Greens are in very good condition fairways have good width. Greens are undulating, but fair. Nice course!
A fair but challenging course
A fair but challenging course with ample opportunity to score. You'll find several holes that will require pin point shots from tee to green but the majority of the holes will give you a chance to recover if you should stray off the fairways. Approach shots a must as the greens are speedy but true. As in a lot of courses you need to stay below the hole and don't give them all the break you might see.
Good Muni for an Okay Price
Course is usually in great shape, especially where it matters. Management is very lax, can be a positive and negative. When there is a slow group no one will speed them up. Can be a challenging course from the back especially when they start cutting the pins in some of the bigger undulations. 18th green has elephants under it practically.
Better have your A game
Quite a challenge and it will be a long day if you're not long and straight. Pin positions on this day were all on side hills which made 3 putting way too easy. Play to the front of every green so you can putt uphill. Worst practice putting green in the state but nice range close to the 1st tee. Nice restaurant, bar and food was good.
Good value
Course was in good condition. Greens have killed nicely from aeration. Slow pace of play for Friday afternoon. No Ranger on the course. No communication between Pro Shop check in and starter. Confusion at First Tee with multiple groups.
Late Summer Gem
Again course was in great shape, compliments to ground crew. Finished round in a little over 3hr., pace of play was great. Par 5s are long but do able if you hit long tee shots. Location of holes & weather combine to make each hole & shot interesting!
Course fairways were a bit hard ground and balls tended to bounce erratically. Greens were also very undulating and a bit inconsistent in speed. Otherwise course was enjoyable but a ranger to ride the course and needs to speed up play with many beginners taking several extra shots each hole.
great summer round
Perfect weather and course was in very good shape after a long Summer season. Nice to have good pace of play to not interrupt your rhythm but can't guarantee depending on your tee time. Personnel friendly and helpful. Hole #15 is fantastic every time!
A good course
Overall, course conditions were good. Nice fairways. Some holes were quite challenging but fair. Greens were a bit hairy and therefore slow. Some of the holes were not cut flat and putts rolled away from the hole. Pace of play was excellent the day I played. While not my favorite, it is a good track and I recommend it.
Cut the greens, please.
The practice putting green was a mess, looks like fungus got to it. Which is too bad because the entire course had very lush greens. So,lush, in fact, that the grass was too long and badly needed cutting (on a Sunday!). Everyone in the foursome was leaving putts three, four feet short all day. And the pin placements were always on the side of a hill, the guy who sets the pins must think he is working at Bethpage Black during the US Open. Anyone who plays Whitney knows that the greens are difficult to begin with as none of them were contoured properly when designed. The rule at Whitney Farms is "if you go long, you are doomed". The sand traps were the best I have seen at any course all year, new fine-granular sand, very nice.
