Wheeler Family Traditions Golf Club
About
Wheeler Family Traditions Golf Club (formerly known as The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford) is one of the most affordable rounds in the area and it has received praise as one of the best golf courses in Connecticut. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for beginners but low handicappers will also find it to be a fun round. The holes are fairly straightforward though there are some fairways that have very narrow landing areas that will test the accuracy of even the best golfers. Numerous bunkers are strategically placed along the undulating greens and water also comes into play on the occasional hole. The golf course starts out gently but becomes progressively more challenging on the back nine. The most memorable hole on the golf course, the par-3 12th, is a water hole that features an intimidating island green.

Plays well
Early morning tee time, not crowded but well attended. Staff is great, course is in good condition. Got in and out quickly, good value for the money paid.
Great Time!
Course was in great shape for the beginning of the season. I'll definitely be back soon.
Early season in CT
The Tradition was in pretty good shape for this time of year. Grass looks to be growing there and greens have been mowed. Good rolling no surprises a bit dry but not after today. Traps need some work.
the course has some interesting holes
the course was in early spring shape, we had a very rough winter, with time the course will be in great shape. one problem not the courses fault, inconsideration of golfers (new trend) spitting pumpkin seeds all over the greens. its nasty you have to move shells to line up your putts.
Tradition GC Wallingford
Great Course for the Price Paid. Course Conditions were Good.
Don't miss this one
Played early April, it was one of only a few courses open in CT. Conditions were great! This is a hard and demanding course, the back 9 definitely harder than the front. Golf now rate was a steal. I went back the following weekend despite the 1.5 hour drive from MA. All the staff remembered my name and conditions only got better. One of my all time favorites courses. If you can play this course others will seem easy!
The course was still too wet for me.
The course goes around power lines, close to I91, and very close to condos. It was an interesting layout but I should have waited until the course dried out to have enjoyed it. The staff was very accommodating, and I was paired up with a few players who added to the enjoyment of the day. I'd play this course again.
Great conditions for early spring
Course was in excellent condition for early Spring golf! Will return in Summertime to see just how nice this course really is. Food in restaurant was very good too.
Long and Open on the front; shotmakers paradise on the back 9
Late Fall playing on an absolutely beautifully groomed course. Would recommend this course to everyone.
Hot Deal??
Not sure my $39 Hot Deal was all that "Hot" since the person in the club house told the person in front of us that they were running a $30 deal for 18 holes and a cart.....HMMMMM
No Complaints
Course was in good shape and the pace of play was fine. Not my favorite layout, but not a bad place to place occasionally. Island Green was loaded with geese, but they did not interfere with a Par!
Wonderful october golf
The course as always iwas in great shape. Though I foud the snacks machines out of order .and staff at the bar had little snacks availble chips and so forth. All in had a great day. but who woould not playing golf.
Starter was great
The starter was great, he paired me up with some great guys.
Great course!
First time playing and I will definitely be going back to play again! You will use almost every club in your bag and everything is in very good shape.
Lucky (13th)
I rate tradition of Wallingford as the best golf course in Connecticut. The view is beautiful. The tee box fairwsys&green green is real clean. I will recommend all my friends to come out and play here from now on. Thanks golf now for this experience. We had a great time playing. We score 14 more shot than usual, but we enjoyed our self. The green was really fast&defferent than what we are use too.
Back nine quirky
Booked on golf now which has held my payment for 3 days but course had me pay day of play
Buyer beware
Play this course about 3 times a month. Playing it today the rate went up, but 5 out of the 18 holes were just aerated. Most courses lower their rates not increase their rates. They could have informed us of the aeration but did not. We will not be going back there for a while. Also be aware of a yellow jacket nest at the first set of steps on # 17. I told them about this twice and the response I got was we tried but it is a tough nest.
shot makers course
The Tradition proved to be a short but difficult shot makers course. You have to place your ball in very specific places and distances. The fairways were in good shape as were the greens but the pin placements were absurd. Almost every hole was 5 to 6 feet from the front edge making approach shots hard especially on their very undulating greens. Fun island par 3 hole too.
A very nice place to enjoy some golf!
Played on a wednesday afternoon with a friend. Tee time was behind a pretty slow foursome. 4 1/2 hours is slightly over course pace of 4:10 but didn't expect to play longer than course pace as a twosome...
Only other complaint would be the 4-5 greens that were recently aerated. Also the rest of the greens were incredibly fast.
Overall though it's a very nice place to play. The place is very well maintained and they have specials during the weekday afternoons.
It's not fair to be too upset about being stuck behind a foursome. So go out and enjoy this course for yourself!
