Wheeler Family Traditions Golf Club
About
Wheeler Family Traditions Golf Club (formerly known as The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford) is one of the most affordable rounds in the area and it has received praise as one of the best golf courses in Connecticut. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for beginners but low handicappers will also find it to be a fun round. The holes are fairly straightforward though there are some fairways that have very narrow landing areas that will test the accuracy of even the best golfers. Numerous bunkers are strategically placed along the undulating greens and water also comes into play on the occasional hole. The golf course starts out gently but becomes progressively more challenging on the back nine. The most memorable hole on the golf course, the par-3 12th, is a water hole that features an intimidating island green.

Island par 3 Photo submitted by Tim6164739 on 09/24/2013
Long and Open on the front; shotmakers paradise on the back 9
Late Fall playing on an absolutely beautifully groomed course. Would recommend this course to everyone.
Hot Deal??
Not sure my $39 Hot Deal was all that "Hot" since the person in the club house told the person in front of us that they were running a $30 deal for 18 holes and a cart.....HMMMMM
No Complaints
Course was in good shape and the pace of play was fine. Not my favorite layout, but not a bad place to place occasionally. Island Green was loaded with geese, but they did not interfere with a Par!
Wonderful october golf
The course as always iwas in great shape. Though I foud the snacks machines out of order .and staff at the bar had little snacks availble chips and so forth. All in had a great day. but who woould not playing golf.
Starter was great
The starter was great, he paired me up with some great guys.
Great course!
First time playing and I will definitely be going back to play again! You will use almost every club in your bag and everything is in very good shape.
Lucky (13th)
I rate tradition of Wallingford as the best golf course in Connecticut. The view is beautiful. The tee box fairwsys&green green is real clean. I will recommend all my friends to come out and play here from now on. Thanks golf now for this experience. We had a great time playing. We score 14 more shot than usual, but we enjoyed our self. The green was really fast&defferent than what we are use too.
Back nine quirky
Booked on golf now which has held my payment for 3 days but course had me pay day of play
Buyer beware
Play this course about 3 times a month. Playing it today the rate went up, but 5 out of the 18 holes were just aerated. Most courses lower their rates not increase their rates. They could have informed us of the aeration but did not. We will not be going back there for a while. Also be aware of a yellow jacket nest at the first set of steps on # 17. I told them about this twice and the response I got was we tried but it is a tough nest.
shot makers course
The Tradition proved to be a short but difficult shot makers course. You have to place your ball in very specific places and distances. The fairways were in good shape as were the greens but the pin placements were absurd. Almost every hole was 5 to 6 feet from the front edge making approach shots hard especially on their very undulating greens. Fun island par 3 hole too.
A very nice place to enjoy some golf!
Played on a wednesday afternoon with a friend. Tee time was behind a pretty slow foursome. 4 1/2 hours is slightly over course pace of 4:10 but didn't expect to play longer than course pace as a twosome...
Only other complaint would be the 4-5 greens that were recently aerated. Also the rest of the greens were incredibly fast.
Overall though it's a very nice place to play. The place is very well maintained and they have specials during the weekday afternoons.
It's not fair to be too upset about being stuck behind a foursome. So go out and enjoy this course for yourself!
A little slower than normal
The course is always in excellent condition and usually plays in under 4 hours. However yesterday it took over 4.5 hours to play it. That is a bit slow. Otherwise everything was excellent as usual.
Solid Course
Good course, well maintained. Fast greens make for tough scoring but not unreasonable. Except for #10, that green is ridiculous.
Awesome Dat
I played on a fairly wet and rainy morning, however my twosome got out earlier than our tee time and whipped around the course.
Despite the weather, the greens were in great shape and the course played really well.
Would definitely do it again.
beautiful and challanged
It is the first time to play in this course. This course is beautiful and challanged.
Greens and fairways in great shape!
Although the greens and fairways are in great shape, and most of the roughs too, there are some area's that could use some attention. Lacks flowers around the course. Otherwise a great find.
Great Condition Course
My friends and I played in this course yesterday. They told me we need to come back again.
brew
I looked for a deal and found one on GolfNow... $16 +fees to play 18 with a cart. sounds awesome right? well I got more than I expected but not much. course was in good shape considering we had a lot of rain the day before. green were a little shaggy and they hadn't been rolled- so putting was very inconsistent. My biggest problem was they have this course cut out from under power lines. I think I was on #8 and I got a shock from my putter touching the green-a little scary. Also this is not a very forgiving course... lots of target shots and loads of out-of-bounds!!!! Island green was cool but they had the drop zone right behind the bridge. all in all...I enjoyed playing but wont be going back
Greens were fast
Great value - I would play there again. Greens were fast and challenging. Little room for error on some tee shots
If you like a chalenge
for a public course is in very good condition all around. If you like a course with some challenging holes, including an island green par 3, I highly recommend giving this a try. only down side is it is not a good walkng course due to some distances between holes that would hamper pace o play. other than that well worth a try. even on weekend the pace was pretty good.
