Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane
About
Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane is situated in the quiet town of Woodbridge, just 20 minutes from New Haven. Formerly known as Oak Lane County Club, the course was both renamed and renovated when it was acquired by the management team at The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford. Many of the holes were updated but the golf course retained its challenging but playable nature. Though the course is player friendly enough to appeal to players of all skill levels, there are still several challenges in store. Numerous strategically placed bunkers lurk along the greens and towering trees also frame most of the holes. The holes are mostly straightforward with a few tricky doglegs to keep you on your toes. You'll also be confronted with the occasional water hole. Both your accuracy and short-game skills will be tested at Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane.

Great course!
Even for fall ball, this course was great. Location is convenient. The layout is pretty challenging.
Great bones, nice condition
This course has great bones, plenty of challenges and unique features.
Oak Lane Fun Day
Had a great time. Nice to have arrange, putting green, chipping area available so show up with enough time to get ready. Course drains well, there was a lot of rain just 16 hours prior but you could not tell. Tough greens but fair, watch your pace! Do not assume a 1 or 2 putt just because you are GIR. Many fairways were lined with trees that have most of the underbrush removed, which made it easier on those strokes that miss the fairway. Not a long layout but try the blue tees and you will see a big difference. If you are a shot shaper or know the value of selecting the correct club off the tee you will be rewarded. Starter & staff were very helpful and made the round start off professionally and smoothly. However after the round three of us were sitting in the parking lot between our cars having a beer and a cigar as we went over our scorecard stats when a woman approached us to tell us this was not allowed. I guess the air of snobbiness has not yet left the course since it was a private course for many years. Sure, everyone wants to sell you only their expensive drinks but if this is the underlying current here then they will fail long term. I now understand why another reviewer was miffed about his treatment by management. Lets not ruin a great place by a holier than thou attitude. Its easy to lose 25% of your market when management is a negative. Just look at Laurel View as an example of how not to run a course, its a ghost town. We will try Oak Lane again because we liked the course.
good time playing this course
This course makes you think from the first tee on. love it.
course was in good shape
i think i have answered as many question above as i need too. this tpe of over questioning make one consider not answeing the next time
Keeps getting better !!!
Played Oak Lane a bunch the last two years but finally got out there yesterday for the first time this season. Conditions were great, greens were perfect [very fast and tricky] bunkers had plenty of sand and the fairways were pretty good too !!!
Best conditions in the past three years... as far as layout there are some great holes on both nines, 1 & 9 are my favorites, some challenging par threes on both sides. There are a couple of back to back snoozers on the back 9 but the elevation changes keep them interesting enough. The long par four 18th works you pretty hard.
Give Oak Lane a try, it's a great course.
Nice spot to play
Great shape. The back is much tougher than the front but overall a nice spot.
Awesome Course
I've played a bunch of golf in CT this year, and this is definitely one of the best public courses in the state. The layout is awesome, the greens are fast, the staff is friendly. Can't ask for anything else.
good time at oak lane
i have nothing but good things to say about the course.aside from the 4 lawnmowers grouped on the 11th,12th and 13th holes, which made it a bit loud, the round was very enjoyable.the course was in great shape.the greens were quite fast which i liked.and i shot my best round of the year due to the fact that the pace of play was excellent! thx for a very good day oak lane
Oak. Lane CC
The course is in great shape. Greens are fast and course is a good challenge
longer than i am use to
The course was in excellent shape. I don't hit a very long ball so the length was a challenge for me. The greens were either up hill, down hill or big break to the right or left of hole. Not to many were a straight level putt. My brother played this course when he was in high school at Eli Whitney Tech 50ish years ago. Playing Oak Lane brought back great memories. Never made it to the 19th hole.
great course. great value
Really enjoy playing this course best bang for the buck.
Encountered horrible treatment at this mediocre course
Reserved 3PM tee time for two with a cart. Arrived early and after hitting balls at the range was told that we were to start the round on the 10th hole. There were numerous people waiting to go out on the tenth with some making the turn and also new starters. Expressed displeasure with this situation. With the late starting time, we had planned to play the relatively enjoyable front nine (not the very weak and lousy back). Time permitting, and open course conditions we then maybe would play two or three extra holes. We were told this was unacceptable and we then asked to just play the front nine, period. After the starter agreed, amazingly, some women, who claimed to be related to the owner, came walking down to the tee area waving cash at me and said we could not to play at all because I had objected the their arbitrary "rules". Upon my now vehement objection (seeing we had already spent over an hour there and had already been told by the starter we could play the front nine) she conceded we could play only the front nine nine holes. I was aggravated for at least five holes and the day was ruined for me. Curiously, there was NO ONE but us on the front nine at all. When we came in after nine holes, and we noticed a number of foursomes lined up waiting to tee off on both the front and back nines. It was obvious they never intended us to finish the eighteen holes I had payed and contracted for. By the way the front nine is a reasonably nice tract while the back nine stinks. I, and my associates will never play at this place or any other owned by this group again. Buyer beware.
Best value going
My friend and I teed off early on the morning of September 8. As a twosome we caught up with a foursome along the way and they quickly let us through and we moved right along without any waiting.
The course was in great shape the staff outside and in the pro shop were friendly and helpful. We will probably be going again next week. Great job, Oak Lane!!!
Fast greens
Course is in pretty good shape. Greens are very fast and don't hold approach shots. Landing before greens and rolling up is recommended, but a number of holes have green side bunkers making it a challenge. Tee boxes need to be numbered for new golfers and signs directing golfers to next hole is needed. Luckily we joined up with a single behind us, otherwise we would have definitely played the wrong hole.
Interesting Course
Oak Lane is an attractive, well maintained course with enough challenging holes to keep most golfers entertained. Big greens help but they are very easy to three put. Not an overly crowded course for a Sunday afternoon but play slowed on and off. The staff was very friendly on this last visit and the deal through GolfNow is hard to beat. I'll play here again.
Very enjoyable course
Solid place, pace of play was very good, could use a little more upkeep on the bunkers and probably some maintenance on the cart paths, but overall a 3.5-4 star round with all factors considered.
Great layout
The pace of play was so slow that it was hard to appreciate the total experience. We waited at least 5 minutes before each shot to the green. The problem was three groups ahead and there was no ranger to hurry them.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
As you can see on every other post about Oak Lane, we respect the process for reviews and have not made a single comment on any other post. This particular review is at best a bending of the truth and is not at all how the sequence of events occurred. This gentleman was rude and disrespectful to our staff and was convinced he could play 18 holes on a busy afternoon on the same 9. He was informed that by not playing the correct starting hole, he would not be able to play 18 holes and he was offered a refund if he preferred. He agreed and now we get hit with a fraudulent review. Please take a look at our previous reviews, you will see that our customer service is something we take great pride in.
