Garrisons Lake Golf Club
About
Garrisons Lake Golf Club, nine miles north of Dover, is a historic play centrally located to all parts of Delaware. The course is nature friendly: with tree-lined fairways and large, well bunkered greens throughout. The par-72, 7,060-yard course was recently renovated and improved, and players of all abilities will be confronted with a fair challenge. Not that there aren’t hurdles. Garrisons Lake is book-ended by two long plays: The 535-yard, par-5 first features out of bounds along the left side, and the 536-yard 17th features a challenging tee shot with trees on the right side. Garrisons Lake Golf Club also has a bustling practice range, putting green, golf shop and snack bar.

Great loayout
This course requires you to pay attention to the layout.
Challenging, but fair
The course is established and even though some trees have been thinned out some fairways are narrow. You have to be able to control your shots on the narrow holes but there are some nice open holes where you can be aggressive. Greens are excellent, roll true and receptive to shots.
No alcohol sales, but can bring your own to enjoy the round.
Nice value
Had a late morning tee time after a night of severe thunderstorms. There were a lot of small branches down, but the grounds crew were scurrying about picking up the debris. Didn't have any problems with downage as a result. Most bunkers understandably had ponds in them, but were otherwise playable for the most part. They're not in great shape anyway, but hey, it's a hazard...deal with it, right? Fairways and greens drained real well, and course was in remarkably good shape considering the drenching it took. They have a food cart at the clubhouse, but you better check inside first if you expect to grab a bite at the turn, especially on weekdays. Tee boxes were very good (didn't break a single tee.) Fairways were also pretty nice, but were ready for a cut when I played on Monday. Greens ranged from just good to very good, and rolled nicely enough. Had to tidy-up some unrepaired ballmarks, but when is that not the case? A pretty friendly, low stress layout; but not a total walk in the park. If you wander off the fairways on this predominantly tree-lined course, you still have a decent chance of finding your ball. For the $12 I paid for the round, it's a definite 2 thumbs up. If it was closer than 50 minutes from me, I would definitely play this track frequently.
Starter is a terrible, Rude person
Showed up for a 10:45 Tee time about 15 minutes early and went to hit a couple balls at the range (approx 100' from starter) Starter got upset and stated I'm going to put someone in front of you if you’re going to hit balls. I replied that is fine but I am only hitting maybe 3 or 4 and I will be ready in plenty of time for our start, He just grunted and walked to another group and told them to go. We asked how to get a basket of balls for the driving range and he yelled at us to get them inside. Went inside and the gentleman at the counter explained to us we get a token inside and machine was outside. So we got a basket and went over to hit a couple and were ready to go at our posted tee time and had to wait for group in front of us.
We played the front 9 a little slower than the group behind us (had my son first time playing a real course) was playing so at the turn I walked up to the starter and asked " we are holding up the group behind us a little( due to new player) so we are going to grab a drink and let them go on the back ahead of us" There was nobody behind them and I couldn't even get out the full sentence and he yells NO! NO! You get your drink and get back out there. What a miserable guy to have out there starting off peoples’ supposedly relaxing day. At that point I had had enough of his rudeness and just went on our way.
The greens were slow but in OK shape. The fairways were bad and rest of course needed a lot of care. Several hits in middle of fairway that carried thru or rolled off the side could not be found due to grass, leaves, and tree limbs all over the place. We also had 2 tree branches (at least 8 feet long) fall out of trees right alongside us. Sorry but no deal on here is worth ever playing this course again. As someone previously stated spend the extra money and play somewhere that wants you there.
Greens were very good condition. The staff was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. It is a really neat course and a great layout.
This course has steadly improved
The course has gotten better and better. Greens are in perfect shape. Bunkers have been cleaned and raked. Good job.
Great day on the course
We had a blast. Course is nice, in good shape. Cannot beat the price. We will be back.
Great Shape
Best shape I have seen. I'm looking forward to playing there again soon.
Play here often
Mother nature has bestowed the area with a very wet May, so the course has been soggy. The course was, in general, in good shape with some ponding in areas that do not drain well.
Excellent Public Course
Beautiful tree-lined course that rewards straight drives and penalizes hooks and slices. A challenge for every golfing level. Traps could use some work and a lot more sand, but the fairways and greens are in very good shape. I always enjoy playing here and golf now has regular amazing hot deals that make it an incredible bargain. It has become my go-to course.
Better but not great
This course is a lot better than when it was owned by Jawarski, but there's still work to be done. The clubhouse is basically a double wide with no real kitchen. A real clubhouse would go a long way with this course.
Good value
Never saw the greens in better condition. Fairways we're good, too. Course is not difficult, only a couple of forced carries. Fun to play.
The course
Putting greens were almost perfect but was a little shaggy from tee to green.overall I'd return.3.5
Good course for the money
Course has been in a lot of different condishions over the years, but as of right now, it's playable. The greens are probably the best part of the course. That's inportant. Most of the bunkers needed some love, but that's to be expected because of the amount of rain the area received a couple days ago. A lot of trees, some water, and no gimme par threes makes it a good track to play. Fairways were ok, but the rough off the fairways and around the trees was quiet high and needs to be cut. Over all, a good course for the money and worth checking out once or twice a year. For me, a solid 3.5 stars.
