About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

Terrible ranger, OK conditions for being late in the season
Some poorly maintained greens but not a big deal this late in the season and on a cheaper/high volume course. Reason for the poor review is their starter/ranger will rant nonsensically just trying to force an altercation. Whether you're trying to social distance or you're breaking every rule, he will pick the opposite side and yell at you. We were social distancing and took separate carts (as the other employees allowed us to do) and he got mad. Then he got mad that two people (who live together btw) were in the same cart. He even held us up past our tee time.
Two pieces of advice for anything thinking of playing here:
1. Pick somewhere else, this place is cheap but there are better courses elsewhere
2. If not playing somewhere else, just tell the weird guy to be quiet. His bark is worse than his bite and all the other employees will apologize on his behalf so clearly he's a bad apple among the staff.

Nice layout
Good golf course. I thought it was a good round and enjoyable. However, the pace of play was slow. We were a three some who waited on practically every shot during the round as the two foursomes were very very slow. Course was wet, but to be expected as there was a lot of rain this week. I really thought this track was a good test though and I would play it again.

Great value for money
Haven’t heard much about this course. Layout is lovely, greens are hit and miss regarding quality. Not super challenging but a pleasant round.

Nice course. Wooded. In good shape. Greens very nice. A few long holes but mostly not overly difficult.

I’ll Play It Again
The west course is scenic and generously spacious. with plenty of shade. The greens are reasonably challenging and well maintained. The score cards could use more yardage detail and less advertising, since the GPS system is lacking some (a few water hazards came as a surprise). But it’s hard to lose your ball.

Rain check situation stinks
Course was nice. Tee boxes need some work. A couple greens had some bad spots. Booked thru GolfNow. Thunderstorms after 8 holes. Clubhouse couldn’t / wouldn’t give rain checks. GolfNow gives me code credits for Mon.-Thurs. after 12:00. We always play early. Not real happy.
