About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

I challenge you to get a better golf value within 25 miles of downtown Chicago
Great layout Friday afternoon 3some $25 a guy to walk on a great course. Pace a bit slow but still finished in 4:15. Maybe Preserve at Oak Meadow is first in terms of value, but no need to drive far away to play a solid course for a good rate.
White Pines West Course
Three friends and I played the West Course Yesterday. It was 96F at the hottest part of the day and the course was in excellent condition. I used to play the course 35 years ago and some days back then, the ball would roll forever on the hard, dry fairways. The only thing that took some getting used to were the carts that automaticallyturned off when you went somewhere you were not supposed to be, such as too close to the green (understandable) or into the tree line to follow my ball ( a little annoying). But, since golf is about the whole experience and the cart thing was only a small part of that experience, we will go back again a couple more times this summer. Our foursome teed off at 10:30 AM and finished in just about 4 hours, even though we backed up starting on 16.

Rough greens
Have played here many of times..the greens were in bad condition..looks like they got a fungus disease..only place this year that had greens in bad shape.

Great Local Course
This is a great local course that should see more play, but I'm happy it does not. With social distancing and Coivid restrictions the course is being run and maintained very well. Many of the surrounding courses are charging premium prices, but White Pines has maintained regular pricing.

Not Super Fun
I tend to give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to course layouts and maintenance but today at White Pines was incredibly annoying. First, driving range down, not listed...then there are about four holes where the tee boxes are placed directly behind a tree, so you have to hit a snap hook or cut just to hit the fairway. It was ludicrous. The tree maintenance is one of the worst I’ve ever seen, you can be in the fairway and have branches blocking you from 100in. Just a very frustrating track.
You think that being over 6000 the back tees would be good. What you don’t realize is that They’re squeezing out the yardage from every par 3 playing 200.
Greens were in great condition, however they were pretty slow. Staff was nice. Carts with GPS is great. Just need some major tree maintenance here.

Park District Course
Haven’t been to White Pines in a while and decided to give it a go. Pleasantly surprised, it was in great shape, better than I remember and challenging enough for our group.. will probably be back sooner than later.
