About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

Not Super Fun
I tend to give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to course layouts and maintenance but today at White Pines was incredibly annoying. First, driving range down, not listed...then there are about four holes where the tee boxes are placed directly behind a tree, so you have to hit a snap hook or cut just to hit the fairway. It was ludicrous. The tree maintenance is one of the worst I’ve ever seen, you can be in the fairway and have branches blocking you from 100in. Just a very frustrating track.
You think that being over 6000 the back tees would be good. What you don’t realize is that They’re squeezing out the yardage from every par 3 playing 200.
Greens were in great condition, however they were pretty slow. Staff was nice. Carts with GPS is great. Just need some major tree maintenance here.

Park District Course
Haven’t been to White Pines in a while and decided to give it a go. Pleasantly surprised, it was in great shape, better than I remember and challenging enough for our group.. will probably be back sooner than later.

Disappointed
I played this course last Saturday. I made my booking for 18 holes through Golf Now. My receipt says 18 holes with cart. I got tp the course for an 8:45 tee time, check-in was great, everything was outside and it was quick. They sent me to the 10th tee to tee off which I thought was ok I was a single and maybe they wanted to get some players on the back 9 since it was still sort of early. I finished the back 9 and walked over to the ranger off the 18th green and asked him where the first tee was so I could continue my round. He told e I was done. I said I only played 9 so he sent me back to the check-in desk. At the front desk they told me I was only allowed to play 9 holes. There were a couple people on the practice green that walked over and said they had been doing this to everyone that finished the back 9. I was incredibly disappointed since I was under the impression I was going to play 18 holes. The course has done nothing to rectify this situation and it seems like they know they're ripping everyone off who books through golf now.

The Absolute Worst Staff
Everything was fine until the back 9 when we had someone following us the entire round putting pressure on us even tho there were golfers right in front of us and we had to wait on every tee box and coming up to argue with us about how slow we were playing. It was honestly the most unprofessional staff I have ever been around on a golf course in the number of years I’ve been playing. I would not recommend this course whatsoever.
soggy in parts
Fun getting out for the first time this year, course is well laid out and play was not rushed. Very soggy on some holes and anywhere there was a depression there is water in it. We have had excessive rain the last few days is nothing could be done about that.

Great experience all things considered
With the amount of rain recently, the course managed pretty well with minimal standing water impacting play. Staff was great in accommodating a cart for my wife who is pregnant. Nice to see COVID precautions in place (no ball washers, pins stay in, no bunker rakes). I thought $30 was a bit steep for 9 holes but I was happy to be out there.

Course has gotten even better.
Course is even better since they redone a bunch of the holes. Was a little wet when I played but I’m still not complaining since there was a tsunami of rain 2 days before. The staff was great as well considering I was using this crappy app and my tee time got all screwed up.

9 holes too short!
Thrilled to get out on the course. Only 9 holes were available for a reservation due to Covid 19 era. What a breathe of fresh air to get out and be amongst the beautiful trees and course.

The Back 9 of the East course was a lot of fun, very fair for play but hitting fairways is important
No Lost Balls, Greens were in pretty good shape, the fairways were really nice as was the pace of play 1 hour 45 minutes
