Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

GPS?
Nice course, decent price on GolfNow. We have played here 3 times this season, and the GPS is never working. Also, had a fivesome in front of us, including a single that was walking. Really slowed things down. Had to wait on almost every hole. Concession stand was not open. Finally, the cart paths could really use some repairs. Still enjoyed the round.
Too Much $$ For What You Get
Visited this course for Labor Day round and was excited because it came highly reviewed from friends.
Ranger was very friendly. The course layout was average but enjoyable. The rough hazards will eat your ball alive. The greens were VERY well kept. However on our 3rd hole we encountered the rudest maintenance worker I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting. He stared us down from the green as we were about 150yrds out and just kept staring. We got up on the green and he was still staring and rudely scolded us for not fixing a divot we JUST made as we got up to that green.
The cart path is in terrible shape with monster potholes all over. Literally spilled my coffee and beer over and they’re unavoidable. The water is moss covered and swampy.
I enjoyed the par 5’s here a lot. They are lengthy and challenging. The clubhouse looked nice. Hot food was not ready at 9am. We started at 6:30am.
I will not be back here.
Course conditions
This course gets a lot of play. That being said, there is no excuse for the cart paths to be as bad as these. It is best to drive in the grass than on the paths. Huge pot holes, broken chunks of concrete, and soon a bad back.
The tee boxes were also really bad, with too many bare spots and weed patches.
However, the greens were actually in pretty good shape, which takes away the excuse for the tee boxes.
tee time started late due to other golfers being late, staff did not know how to solve. was stuck at first tee for 20 mins
Pace of play was slow
I haven’t played at White Pines in a number of years but I remember enjoying the course. The pace of play has made me decide not to return to it. Too bad!
A little slow
Still a good course, very enjoyable, unfortunately the pace of play was not very much fun. Some things you can fix and some things you can't. Otherwise had a great time, course was good, plenty of amenities no other complaints.
