In a hurry
The gap between tee time was little bit tight for us. We had to only play the golf, lack of time for leisure.
Decent not great (Aerated greens)
The greens were rough. They were aerated supposedly two weeks ago. The ball rolls so poorly. Every putt it looks like the ball it rolling down a gravel path… if the greens were aerated two weeks ago then they should be far better than they are now. Almost half the aerated holes in the green are not filled. Greens are also really hard bc all the sand hasn’t been tamped.
Greens were my only issue. Ruined the round bc chip ons and putts are completely chance. Course was decent elsewhere. Tee boxes are concrete. Fairway is concrete in some places. Nice layout. Also was cart path only on a very dry day… there was a “fire warning for dryness” on my weather app the day we played.
TLDR: Give it two weeks to a month before coming here if I had to guess. Greens need to recover from aeration

Great deal
The course was somewhat rough since the fairways had not really started to grow yet and the greens had just been aerated.

Over rated and over priced course due to conditions
Did not even get a chance to finish the 18 hole
Pace of play sucked
Marshall’s did not check pace if play and allowed mediocre players yon play from back tees
Was not told in advance that greens aereated

Awful experience
I think the course layout is great. The conditions were basically unplayable. I think no over-seeding among other stuff led to this basically being a mud course. Because I really liked the layout I would like to play it again during the summer when it’s dry with grass. So my review is bad based on the current conditions but I do believe it will be much better during summer.

Gem in Alpharetta
We like this course. Green conditions very nice for this time of year (for anytime of year really). Staff is super friendly. A couple of challenging holes for our party but, we are all 20+ handicaps. Carts are in good condition (electric I believe). If you are there during cart path only day, walking can be a bit much because many of the longer holes have wide fairways. If you end up way right of cart path, well....
At the turn, the shop has a good selection of sandwiches, hot dogs, chips and drinks. And before you play you can pitch, putt or hit the practice range.

Bad condition
Used to be a staple. Tee boxes were sand. Course was mud. Still constantly reminded to speed up but every one in front if you is slow. They don't manage times well. Food is not great. But it's just a local. Staff is very nice.

Played back 9, front 9 too slow
2 groups on the tee, 3 more on the 1st hole, but the great part about having a cart: drive around and find an open hole. Finally, there was a gap after 8...so Jumped in and started playing.
Entire front 9 was ladies. I'm a fan of women's golf, but not a fan of slow golf. Pick it up....literally if you're hitting 7 from the fairway. Not sure if Mary Kay was sponsoring a tournament or what, but it felt like all Golden Girls of Atlanta came to play on this day.

Worst Marshall Ever
I have played elite courses in Georgia. River Pines is not one of them. I played this course because it was discounted because a later tee time and it’s very close to me. The course is not bad. However, the Marshall was the worst person I have ever experienced. We got paired with another pair and the Marshall was staring us down the first 5-6 holes. He kept bugging us to play faster. Keep in my I am a pretty good golfer. When I took my first mulligan on hole 3. He said you hit 3 balls, don’t do that ever again. I was furious because clearly I hit two and it was my only mulligan. They overbooked the course that day and the Marshall kept being truly evil. On hole 5 or 6 he asked if we wanted to go back to hole 1. Why in the world would we ever do that? You overbooked, it’s not our fault! Eventually he got off our butts because he noticed our pace was pretty quick. For not the nicest course, where there are a lot of beginners, this behavior was truly unwarranted. I’m not sure the next time I will play river pines.
If you are a pretty good golfer, why are you hitting mulligans in the middle of your round, especially if the course is crowded? No wonder the Marshall was mad at you.
