Enjoyable day of golf
Nice weather, mostly cloudy day and a good group of golfers to play with. The group in front of us a little slow, but over all very enjoyable round of. Completed 18 holes in 4 hours.
Once in a lifetime
My dad and I came across a wrecked cart, two ladies and a Marshall wedged under a tree limb. Someone could’ve been hurt. They called for our help, we went over and pulled away the limb and the cart slammed to the ground. The Marshall was very gracious. We confirmed everyone was ok and continued our round.
Marshall stopped our group on 16 and said, “thank you so much for your help, please go in the proshop after the round, the head pro wants to thank you with a voucher”. Marshall approached us after 18 as well, “please don’t forget to go in, he’s waiting to see yall”
We go inside and the pro, pulls out a sheet of paper and says “name and phone number”. Thinking it was going on a voucher, I gave it to him. He then input my info into their insurance report and said “thanks, see ya” . Told him we only came in because we were told multiple times to come see the pro about a credit. He said “oh ok, here’s a $50 credit” . I said “what about my dad, he helped just as much”. Pro says “you’re family, split it.”
Was a totally bizarre experience. We went back in and told them to remove us from the report. Probably won’t come back soon
Course has fallen into disrepair
Tee boxes so hard you can’t push a tee in without a hammer, and not a level spot to be found for your stance. Greens are in awful shape, not a single ball mark has been fixed all season. Staff is rude and wouldn’t allow us to finish a 3:20 tee time without classifying it as a twilight rate. Kicked all groups out at 7:15 on a night when sunset was 7:45, and ranger was making threats, even driving his cart in front of our ball to keep us from hitting another shot.
NOWHERE NEAR THE PRICE OF ADMISSION! Save your money.
Soaking wet & lawnmowers everywhere
Would not recommend. Played the front 9 first tee time out & it wasn’t too bad. Quite wet from over watering but dealt with it. It’s the back 9 where things got so much worse. The course was soaked & every fairway had workers in the middle of the fairway. It was to the point that on 11 there were 4 ride along mowers wing operated & they didn’t move. How does one golf & hit a shot with that going on. Almost every shot on the back I should have moved the ball because it was laying in muddy grass. So frustrating.
Good value
I thought the course was in pretty good shape with the exception of a couple of tee boxes (no big deal). The practice area exceeded expectations with a practice bunker an ample space for chipping. The ranger appropriately and politely asked us to pick up our pace. Lots of deer on the course which added to the natural beauty.
Wasn’t what we had hoped for.
We played this course for the first time as a foursome. The tee boxes were so dry that we had a hard time placing tee’s into the ground.
We were told by the course Marshall several times that we were 14 minutes behind optimum pace and to speed it up. It was our intent to keep the pace going so as to not slow down the twosome behind us. The marshal came back a few times and would park at the tee box, not saying anything and making us uncomfortable. We were all able to hit our drives successfully, and he drove away. We were hit into once and we told the Marshall that the twosome could move ahead of us, I don’t know if the Marshall told them this, but the twosome never played through. The greens were in terrible shape, with dry spots, patches of no bent grass and lots of unrepaired divots. Pro shop staff were kind and helpful. Due to the course condition and passive aggressive behavior of the Marshall, I can’t recommend this course to anyone. We won’t be playing here again.
Great Course (except the greens)
My only helpful feedback would be the condition of the greens.
Conditions are just unacceptable
Grass in most areas around fairways is like a sponge and swallows your ball. Spent most time looking for my ball than playing even when you hit a very nice and straight shot down the fairway. Grass needs to be cut shorter in the whole course just way too high for acceptance. Did get 3 nice birdies
No homes, all nature in Johns Creek, Ga
Convenient, nice layout and great staff. Opportunities with on course amenities and bag drop (not eager to help load / unload golf bag)
Really enjoy this course
I have played RiverPines many times. I like the layout, especially the back side. The course was very wet and soggy - that was the only downside.
Good track good people
Course is a great track and the facilities are nice. Course is in good shape but greens are beat up really bad. All in all not bad but truly only a mid course good at $50 robbery at 90
Bring lots of balls......
This is not a negative review.... Just my thoughts.....my round was $60 and I feel I got what I expected for that amount. The greens on the front 9 are rough... really rough. The back nine was a little better, but 18 was the worst of the day,
The rough is insane. If you hit the ball 1 foot off the fairway, there is a good chance you wont find it. With so many blind tee shots, you need to hit the fairway or you will be reloading.due to a lost ball when you can't find it.
Tee boxes are... well.... about what you would expect for $60... rough.
In short, it is all relative. If you want to play a nice course, there are several others in the area at $100 that provide a much better overall experience.
On a positive note, the pace was better than I realized. Our foursome finished in under 4 hours. We waited on most shots on the back 9, but the group in front of us was waiting most of the time as well.
I found the sand traps to be really really good the few times I was in one.
Perhaps I will give it another shot later in the year if I cant get a time someplace else. I will be checking reviews to see if it gets any better.
