Continues to recover from closure /Still NO AMENITIES
Since reopening I've now played Mill Creek three times. Course is in decent shape.....contiues to recover....but what's the deal with all the divots on all the tee boxes on holes where you're hitting a driverz? Some of the divots not even in the right direction towards the hole. Ridiculous. No water no bathrooms on course. And who's bright idea is it to only sell light beers? Definitely BYOB if you want to enjoy a decent orange whip.
There's a basic pro shop to check in....that's it folks. No bar or restaurant post round. A couple of refrigerators with beverages - if you like light beer you have plenty of choices. That might explain on the divots on the tee boxes....bad golfers drinking bad beer.
Fun layout trouble everywhere and greens with nice slopes/levels to them. I like playing here especially in the afternoons when it's empty. It seems a lot of people just play nine here.....the front can get backed up but each time I've made the turn the back nine is empty. Driving range off mats (no drivers) and there's short course as well.
It's a bit steep on price as well for what you get.....get the amenities back and sell some decent beers. Course close to 4 stars. Conditions 3.5 stars....the rest ZERO stars. See my previous review at start of the season as well.
Good shape after the layoff
Closed during COVID but in decent shape. Tees were dried out but rest of course was in decent shape. Recommend you choose tees that fit your distance off the tee - played blacks with my partner and struggled as whites were more appropriate. There are several holes where carry off the tee matters. Will be back.
Surprised
I was pleasantly surprised at the conditions of the course after it being closed for a couple years. It is still a little rough around the edges but very playable. This is a difficult course with blind shots so it’s very important to play the right tee box to make it more enjoyable.
Old man in pro shop was a jerk
Played twighlight at 5:30pm on a Thursday. Cashier in the pro shop said carts have to be in by 8:30pm. We were on the 18th tee box at 8:25pm and he drives out to say “Game over. You guys are done for tonight.” We said okay take the carts in. We will walk without bags. He left then turned on the sprinklers on the 18th green. What a jerk!!! That’s like you waiter asking you to leave your table because your time is up. Golf is a hospitality industry and that guy should not work at Mill Creek or any golf course.
Don't be fooled
Even though the black tees are only 6400 yards, do not play from them unless you have a single digit handicap. There is trouble everywhere and that is with the fescule being cut way down.
Interesting layout
Mill Creek is an interesting layout, requiring thoughtful shot selection, with many challenging approach shots, including several that are blind. The course condition is just fair, a bit too soft with slow-ish greens, especially for Summer play. Impression is the staff is purposely slowing the greens to speed up play. That said, pace of play is still disappointing, with groups playing without thought of pace, and no ranger to expedite. There was a nice cart girl with beverages, but only halfway choices are dogs on a rotary in the clubhouse(and assorted chips), and those can be in short supply. Glad to see the course open again, but will not consider playing for a while and see if they can get things sorted.
Course management poor at all courses they manage
I understand that the same company owns/manages Hughes Creek, Mill Creek, Tanna Farms and Settlers Hill. The condition of Hughes Creek and Mill Creek is shoddy. But my biggest complaint is that there's NO WATER containers anywhere on these courses for golfers. This summer has been brutally hot this year and there's no excuse for not providing water. Don't make me come into your poorly supplied clubhouse to buy a $2 bottle of water! I won't play any of these courses again.
Rude people
Unfortunately the course has got a lot of homes on it and there's a lot of people that live there that are using the course for walking and running and they're not supposed to be on it. They interfere with the players. in the way of the players and they have to be asked to move. That happened to me today. I ask a girl to move out of my way who was walking on the course. She got very upset and started swearing at me. I can't imagine why I would ever go back. The management of the course needs to get this under control. A person that goes out to play golf is paying for it and it's doing it for relaxation not aggravation
Punitive Golf Course
There are some open holes, but most are surrounded by thick, reedy marshland. I hit 10 fairways and still didn't have fun. When you hit your approach 5 yards long and lose your ball, it just isn't fun. Also: NO amenities. NO water, Range CLOSED, 19th Hole CLOSED, NO marshal to control the fivesomes and the middle schoolers.
Good, but could be WAY better
Course has some really nice holes and has some holes that need a lot of love. Some tee boxes are great, some are awful. Mowers on 2 different occasions didn’t yield to our shots or stopped right behind us and never put the mowers In idle, just left them running full bore. Also not sure why they’re mowing at 1pm when the sun rises close to 5am. Decent course for the money but again, could be WAY better.
