Good Price, Not a Great Track
While Mill Creek is well maintained, it is an unfair course if you haven't played it several times. First off, no yardage books were available (sold out). Not a problem if the carts have GPS...but they don't. The scorecards were no help. They were bad copies on printer paper. The hole diagrams were hard to read and provided no useful information. Several of the holes on this course require blind shots off the tee or to the green. Several times I hit what I thought was a nice shot, only to find that I was in an unseen hazard.
I did like the greens though. They are very undulated and challenging and the ball rolls pretty true.
The bottom line is that I wanted to try a course that I haven't played at a reasonable price. I got exactly that. I will not be coming back to Mill Creek anytime soon and would not recommend it.
grass is nice and green
love that place, the only thing that took me from giving them a 5 star is that when I was there, there were no cart girl driving around severing us. I was getting hungry and thirsty.. all they needed was a cart girl driving around and it would make it complete. Everything else there was great.
Your Guess is as Good as Mine...
Frustrating to say the least... many holes have no signage at the tee, no holes have maps at the tee, and mid-hole yardage markers are almost nonexistent. Bring your own GPS or you won't be happy.
Lots of hills and roughage, residential homes near by.
This course had a lot of hills and vallys. There were several residential homes near the course, i was afraid I would break something. There was a lot of foulage also, I lost a lot of golf balls on this outing.
Nicely laid out and tough course. Blind shots are forced on a couple of holes that cause golfers to slow their play. Waited all day, 5 1/2 hour round.
Great layout. I used every club in my bag. Eliminate the blind shots and speed up play and I would play this course more.
challenging, tight course.
Course is well maintained and narrow. It is difficult on a few holes to see where you want your drive to end up without some local knowledge or a prior round under your belt. it runs through a subdivision and the houses are not really in play unless you are the kinda guy who is usually hitting from the next fairway over. If you can't consistently hit fairways, you will be having a tough day. greens have a lot of undulations, expect 3 putts if you can't get close. there is quite a bit of distance between some of the tees, not a problem for a cart golfer but a lot of extra walking if you carry.
Weather slowed mowing, lots of cut grass on fairways and bunkers. No sand in bunkers. Greens were large and in great shape.
Weather slowed mowing, lots of cut grass on fairways and grass bunkers. No sand in traps. Greens were large and in great shape. Overall layout of the course was challenging, many blind shots, need to play it again to avoid some tough shots. Will return!
Good
Shorter course. Pretty course with lots of vegetation. Once you go around you can get scores down even from black tees. Not a real difficult course but plenty nice for most golfers
Good test of golf
Very challenging course. Local knowledge will save you 4-5 strokes easily. A lot of fairways end, then dog leg so you can't just "grip it and rip it". Similar to Prarie Landing, this course is a shot makers course and a good test of golf. Many tee boxes for different skill levels
Nice course, good value for the money
The course was challenging for me who is not a great golfer. There are a lot of hills on this course which makes you on several occasions shooting in the blind, and making it difficult to sometimes find your ball because you really don't see where it lands. I was disappointed that none of the water containers had any water in them, and none of the ball washers had any liquid in them. I also did not see any toilets on the course.
Great Public Course!
I enjoyed playing a round at the Mill Creek. Some of the holes are quite challenging. Some are pretty straight forward. Nice facility. Well maintained course. Friendly staff.
I'll definitely play it again.
Tough, but fun
Depending on what tee boxes you play, this course can be long and challenging, or just challenging. Many fairly tight fairways require skilled placement and true management. Greens have multiple tiers and double breaks. The views are very nice and the time passes pleasantly. Enjoy!
Great course for the $
The course is in real nice shape for early May and the price is great. Mill Creek is on the easier side for advanced players even from the tips. (Short course) but for average players its perfect. I'll definitely be playing out there again as long as the price remains the same.
this course will really test golf skills.
staff was friendly, course was in great shape for this wet spring .Need to make parking lot golf cart friendly, allow carts.
Challenging course but fun to play.
A course where you always have to be cognizant of the hole layout. Just can't 'grip it and rip it'. Some holes very close to residences (10 & 11 especially) that require caution. The course definitely tests your ability!
includes some tough, but rewarding, shots .. not the run of the "mill" kind of course
creative involvement with natural terrain and unique shot challenges. golfer cannot simply blast away. technical skill and finesse are required. ya gotta play golf.
Relatively good condition considering adverse weather
Played before, always enjoy this course. Would like to see better maintenance and a driving range with some targets...
For 1st round of the year playing for $35.00, I got my moneys worth.
Great layout of the course - early in the year so the greens were terrible and the traps were brutal but expected this early in the season. Assuming the greens are maintained in average condition this course can play tough....Liked some of the views and rolling hills.
Ball washers anyone?
I will never understand Chicago golf - can no one read a weather forecast? If you know on Friday or Saturday that it will be nice on a Sunday, do the basics? Put out some water and put the ball washers out. Why is this such a mystical thing at Chicago area courses? I swear, give me any golf course to run in the area and I could quadruple the take....
