Course in amazing condition
I’ve been playing the course for over 10 years and have never seen the course in better shape. Everything appeared to have been freshly cut. The greens were firm and fast, bunkers were fluffy and challenging to get out of. The 96 degree temperature was the most difficult part of playing Ga National this past Monday.
Great layout
Besides the cart paths this course is in great shape. There are a few greens that are getting hairy but outside of that this course is great.
GA Nat
Course was in great shape and the staff were very friendly
First of all I wanna say that I love this course. One of the best courses in Atlanta (see my previous review 2
Days ago). I played GA National on Saturday and was impressed with both the staff and the course. My Sat round was booked on GolfNow. When I got to the course, the guy on the desk charged me the senior rate, which I appreciated. After my round, a friend convinced me to play there again on Monday. I called the course to book a tee time for 3 seniors. The lady at the desk told me I had to book on GolfNow since I wasn’t a member of the club. I told her that I wanted to get the senior rate and I could not get it if I booked through GN. She said when I check-in at the course I would then be charged the senior rate. Nevertheless, when I got to the course, a different guy (and his manager) both told me that they do not give senior discounts to GolfNow players, only club members could get the discount. Now what upset me the most is that both of them went on to tell me that the other two employees were wrong and should not have given me the discount on Sat nor told me I could get it on Mon. Also telling me that the other two had only worked there a short period of time. Neither of them doubted that I was telling the truth, but never considered honoring what “their” employees had told me. Instead they treated me like I was trying to get over. I wasn’t about the senior discount at this point, it was all about principles. I left there feeling like I had done something wrong when it was the course staff that “made the mistake” / “weren’t properly trained” and the Desk Sergeant & his Manager were too busy drilling me on how they do not give senior discounts to non-members of the golf club. That wasn’t the first golf course that treated us differently because we booked on GolfNow. This was the first time I experienced a management staff that didn’t honor a mistake that their employees made.
One of the Best Course in Georgia
Love the layout of this course. No holes seem the same. Course condition was excellent. Greens were nice, true, and pretty fast. Great practice areas. Staff was very nice and professional.
Georgia Regional?
I played this course over 20 years ago before it became part of the Canongate group. I recall it as being a solid course with equally impressive conditions. I found myself in the McDonough area recently and decided to stop by and see how Georgia National has aged now that it’s allowing public play again. Overall, I found myself longing for the early 2000’s throughout much of my round. The course has become a little ragged, such as, little sand in bunkers exposing the cement like bases, wood steps deteriorating to the point they were hazardous to use and golf carts without windshields. The range was poorly stocked with balls. Several large baskets were scattered on the range, but each only had a few balls. When playing the course, there were sight lines off the tee where trees are encroaching the preferred line. The greens were fast and the course conditions were otherwise decent, but Georgia National is no longer meeting the expectations its name creates.
Nice course. Definitely will be back!
Great course with a pretty good practice facility. Course was in good shape and staff nice. If you haven't been, you should find your way there.
A little Thursday golf
I went by myself but ended up joining a threesome. Had a great time.
Will play here more
Fantastic. We try to play every course near us and we saw it on golf now . It's been members only course. We have played all Hilton Head courses it has the same feel.
Fairway’s inconsistent & pace of play
Some parts of the fairways were soaked and extremely muddy and soft. A lot of the fairways were spotty with grass and just hitting off red clay.
The pace of play was extremely slow, course seemed to be over booked with locals showing up on the course in their personal carts and cutting in front of other golfers.
Fast hard greens.
We played as a 4 some teeing off at 10:20. We play fast as we were waiting on a pair the first 11 holes. We were not playing very well a guess the couple in front was playing even worse. The greens were the fastest greens I have ever played. They were firm short and rolled. Fairways were a little soft and muddy from the morning watering. There is always mud on your ball when you play GA National. They need to sand the landing areas on the fair ways. Which should not be much sand since the fairways are tight. The course played tough with a little wind. Many holes played into the wind. A fee par 3 tee boxes need to be leveled. Some trees need to be cut back that are hanging out in front of tee boxes. The course is in good shape for most part and the greens are slick. . I will play here many more times.
First time at Georgia National.
Greens are very nice. Fairways just started to green up. It should be very nice in a month.
Good course layout, but bunkers almost unplayable
The service was great and the course layout is fantastic. The grass conditions were as expected coming out of the winter season but the bunkers were nearly unplayable. The concrete bedding was exposed in the majority of the bunkers. It required moving your ball and raking of the areas that actually had sand and play a shot. Otherwise the greens and fairways were good. Rate should have been lower due to the conditions outlined above.
I love the terrain of this course and love the unique layout with challenging terrain changes
Definitely worth it. I love the course and had a great time. However, the cart paths are in extreme needs of a do over, and the carts are very well outdated.
Other than that best course around
Good l Course
Carts paths are horrible but greens are great! You can tell it use to be a excellent course. No issues other then the cart paths.
