Very Long Rough Grass
The first cut along the fairway (or is that a 2nd cut?). Anyhow, it was unacceptably long. I lost at least 8 strokes trying to hit out of those things. This isn't Scotland! Other than that, the greens weren't in great shape and a lot of work appeared to being done in various sand traps.
Not Bad
Wouldn't give me any type of refund or credit towards the course since we only played 8 holes due to the thunderstorm. Front desk staff didn't really care that we didn't play a full 18, only cared that we paid.
Nice layout, very fun coarse to play
I wish the fairways were all the way to greens. My wife had a hard time not hitting far enough on some holes the fairways are non existent from 100 yards into just short of green. She gets penalized for hitting straight down the middle
target golf.
Staff very friendly. Marshalls were out to keep pace up. Bunkers poor. Greens slow. Fairways nice. Target golf at its best. Worth the Golfnow price.
Great course
First time playing the course, what a treat for $23 GN fees included. Got paired up with 2 nice guys who play here often. Played in about 4 hours on a busy Saturday.
Nothing bad to say about the course, I'll be back for sure!!
Decent value for the money.
Played this course numerous times over the years. Greens were quite shaggy, hadn't been cut or rolled. Fairways were in good shape after heavy rains. One big minus were the bunkers. Just terrible, no sand in then, just dirt. Now I remember why I haven't gone there in years, $19 green fee or not!
Spring start up
All tee boxes and farways are in good shape but "greens" , sand was not cleaned up completely after preparing for spring season.
Can be intimidating
Being a 12 handicap this course always presents a challenge. Hole 2 can be reached in 2 if you stay left on the fairway. Hole 4 narrow fairway with water on the right and O/B left. Best to hit a high iron straight. 7th hole keep left to hit green in 2. 10th hole- Water about 250 out and also to the left.
The course was in good shape considering the rain we had during the week. Greens ran good, but hard to read breaks.
For the money its always fun. We hit it several times a year. This round was to practice for the annual Spring Fling they hold every year.
A great deal......
You can't play many nicer course's for their special deal prices. Paid $18 with a cart and always a good time! Keep up the good work Glendale Lakes!
Unprofessional staff
Let me first start off by saying the course itself is a challenge to play because there are houses surrounding the whole course. The staff that work here are very unprofessional. I Was playing a hole on number 9 when i was approached by a employee on a rough mower screaming at me and getting in my way. This course is funded by the village of Glendale Heights and has been loosing the villages money every year. I have a few friends that work down in the village and there are numerous reports that employees working here have been watching adult videos on the clock. Glad to see my taxpayer dollars are going right in the garbage. The only reason its running is because "The mayor likes to golf".
Not 1st choice for me
One of those courses where you need to plan your shots appropriately. Difficult for the first time player as there are several holes with blocked views of fairways and greens which are just dumb in my opinion. There's more than several holes where even good shots will go unrewarded and get you in trouble. Went as a single the guy inside said I can ride a lone no problem....the starter was then arguing about it in front of several groups. (embarrassing). He was radioing back and forth with the guy inside who said its no problem. Very unprofessional. I won't be back unless some drives me there and pays for it.
Straight forward course
The course overall was pretty good for this time of year. Pace was fine since very few golfers were playing. Personnel seemed bothered when asked questions and provided curt responses. The bunkers were horrible. All should be marked ground under repair. Would play again because the price was good and just take drops from bunkers.
Oh the Lakes
Had a great tee time deal and was very convenient. It's a nice course, but there were some bunkers under repair. I didn't have a great day shooting, so hopefully I'm not taking any of my frustration out on the course.
A Good test of golf
The course is built so that water can come into play on 10 of the 18 holes. Sand traps need some work on many of the holes. You have to position your ball, so it is not always advantageous to pull out your driver and let it rip. Come prepared to use all your clubs on this well manicured track.
Difficult course, slow pace, horrid bunkers
First, this course is not enjoyable for a mid- to high-handicapper. For at least 8 holes the tee shot and subsequent shot require either a very short layup, causing a 200y plus shot into the green or straight, long shot. Multiple holes have OB running along the left side, with water or other penalty shot hazard along the right. White tees offer almost no benefit except on the Par 3s, since a layup is required for all but a perfect shot for all tee boxes. This setup makes for very slow rounds when beginners are playing, which brings up my second issue.
Course staff are unable to enforce slow play groups. I played on a Sunday morning...group ahead of me was extremely slow, taking multiple shots from the same location, walked through bunkers on the way to their ball (ball not in bunker), didn't rake bunkers at all, didn't fix ball marks, and buried a putter in the 18th green. Ranger drove by the group at least 5 times and never once spoke to them. They did offer to let us play the front nine again to avoid waiting at the turn...but I didn't pay to play the same nine twice.
Finally, the bunkers are atrocious. No sand, just a 1/2 inch of clay/silt with hardpack beneath. Had to dig with a closed face out of each one. One bunker I didn't have to rake my steps to my ball because my shoes didn't make any prints. My understanding is they are working on replacing all of them, but it will be a multi-year project.
Finally, the course was in reasonably good shape, except that they did not move hole locations or tee boxes from Saturday to Sunday. Also, for some reason, players on this course do not repair ball marks...I'm used to fixing a stray ball mark on a few greens, but I could have fixed 10 on each green we played.
Keep you ball on the Fairway!
My review title says it all as there are a few holes where this is a must and so the challenge for everyone is to not lose you ball. There are long fairways and a few short ones over the water - do your best if you play!
Greens need attention
Course is really challenging and favorites accuracy over power. Wind was extremely strong therefore made this round even more challenging. Greens Definitely needs some attentions as are really bumpy. I would definitely play again, maybe on a day were wind is not a factor.
Play it Forward as a Sr. and You'll Love the Layout
Got a great rate through Golf Now and really enjoyed the round. There was an outing from earlier in the day and they were totally out of control! Five-somes, tank tops, cut of T's, taking 2-3 do-overs each in a foursome and, yes, plastered.. Ranger just drove by the mess. Staff could not have been nicer.
Good course to play
Lots of water on both 9's ... made you think of using club management instead of just grabbing the normal club that you would use to score with....have to hit it straight on a lot of holes.....
Sand Traps full of water
This happens at times. No one informs us about course conditions when we pay up. We find out after we begin play. All sand traps had standing water and were not playable.
