Oh the Lakes
Had a great tee time deal and was very convenient. It's a nice course, but there were some bunkers under repair. I didn't have a great day shooting, so hopefully I'm not taking any of my frustration out on the course.
A Good test of golf
The course is built so that water can come into play on 10 of the 18 holes. Sand traps need some work on many of the holes. You have to position your ball, so it is not always advantageous to pull out your driver and let it rip. Come prepared to use all your clubs on this well manicured track.
Difficult course, slow pace, horrid bunkers
First, this course is not enjoyable for a mid- to high-handicapper. For at least 8 holes the tee shot and subsequent shot require either a very short layup, causing a 200y plus shot into the green or straight, long shot. Multiple holes have OB running along the left side, with water or other penalty shot hazard along the right. White tees offer almost no benefit except on the Par 3s, since a layup is required for all but a perfect shot for all tee boxes. This setup makes for very slow rounds when beginners are playing, which brings up my second issue.
Course staff are unable to enforce slow play groups. I played on a Sunday morning...group ahead of me was extremely slow, taking multiple shots from the same location, walked through bunkers on the way to their ball (ball not in bunker), didn't rake bunkers at all, didn't fix ball marks, and buried a putter in the 18th green. Ranger drove by the group at least 5 times and never once spoke to them. They did offer to let us play the front nine again to avoid waiting at the turn...but I didn't pay to play the same nine twice.
Finally, the bunkers are atrocious. No sand, just a 1/2 inch of clay/silt with hardpack beneath. Had to dig with a closed face out of each one. One bunker I didn't have to rake my steps to my ball because my shoes didn't make any prints. My understanding is they are working on replacing all of them, but it will be a multi-year project.
Finally, the course was in reasonably good shape, except that they did not move hole locations or tee boxes from Saturday to Sunday. Also, for some reason, players on this course do not repair ball marks...I'm used to fixing a stray ball mark on a few greens, but I could have fixed 10 on each green we played.
Keep you ball on the Fairway!
My review title says it all as there are a few holes where this is a must and so the challenge for everyone is to not lose you ball. There are long fairways and a few short ones over the water - do your best if you play!
Greens need attention
Course is really challenging and favorites accuracy over power. Wind was extremely strong therefore made this round even more challenging. Greens Definitely needs some attentions as are really bumpy. I would definitely play again, maybe on a day were wind is not a factor.
Play it Forward as a Sr. and You'll Love the Layout
Got a great rate through Golf Now and really enjoyed the round. There was an outing from earlier in the day and they were totally out of control! Five-somes, tank tops, cut of T's, taking 2-3 do-overs each in a foursome and, yes, plastered.. Ranger just drove by the mess. Staff could not have been nicer.
Good course to play
Lots of water on both 9's ... made you think of using club management instead of just grabbing the normal club that you would use to score with....have to hit it straight on a lot of holes.....
Sand Traps full of water
This happens at times. No one informs us about course conditions when we pay up. We find out after we begin play. All sand traps had standing water and were not playable.
Lakes is very appropriate.
This course has become one of my favorite courses to play. While the distances aren't the challenge, the fact that many of the fairways are over or near water poses the challenge. Decisions to lay up or attempt to go over are present on 4 of the 18 holes. Some of these fairways are narrow and it's important to be accurate. The Par 3's are short averaging 145 on the whites but pin placement can pose problems. Staff is awesome and the course is fun to play. I'll be golfing there 7 or 8 more times this season for certain.
Good challenging course
This a very nice well maintained course love playing there but can be challenging with all the water overall great course to play
Course is in great shape
Greens in excellent condition.
Sand traps can use some sand
Challenging Course
We liked the course due to water challenges which we don't have in AZ. I think the rough could have been mowed a little shorter. Hard to find the ball in it. Fairways and greens were manicured nicely.
Overall, nice course, friendly staff and beautifully laid out.
Great value
Nice course. Keeping the ball straight will reward you greatly on this course.
I believe 11 holes ( or more) has a water hazard, so bring plenty of balls. Lol.tee boxes, fairways, green we're all in good order.
I' ll be back.
Great value
I play this course a few times a year as they always have a great twilight rate. Course is usually in fair to decent shape. The course is not long, but water is in play on most holes, making it challenging and forces you to be accurate and smart. Overall good course for the fees.
Good challenge
Enjoyed the course. Somewhat short from the White tees but demands accuracy with tight fairways and lots of water.
Glendale Lakes Review
A challenging course with some tight fairways and water coming into play on many of the holes.
Call ahead to make sure that they are allowing carts on the course (weather dependent). Cart path only makes for a very slow round. Also, heavy rains make the sand traps unplayable.
The course name says it all - LAKES
If you have a lot of inconsistency in your shots then you might not enjoy this course too much because the rough is thick and water comes in play on many of the holes, so you're likely to loose a lot of balls. But if you're able to control the urge to just 'blast away' and want to work on accurate shot placement then this is a nice place to play. The course is in nice condition and the layout is challenging but not crazy. Play does run a little slow from time to time with a lot of novice golfers looking for their balls.
improved
course was in really good shape, they have taken steps to get rid of the geese. did not see one geese dropping anywhere on the course- could not beleive it
Very nice but challenging
course was in good shape; layout is interesting; lots of trouble if you miss left or right off the tee; greens were terrific
Challenging in the wind
Played in 25 mph winds and course took it toll. Condition of the course was fair, but I think many courses are having condition issue. Greens were a little slow but true. Have alwas liked that there is a lot of variety in the holes. Not a fan of having rough that is in the center of what would be normally be the fairway. will likely play again
