Lakes Golf Course at Laura Walker State Park
About
Situated at the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, the Lakes Golf Course at Laura S. Walker State Park is home to an abundance of native plants and wildlife including alligators, gopher tortoises, and blue herons. True to its name, the course has three large lakes and the layout is routed through numerous varieties of oak trees and palmettos. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with heavily undulating greens, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. There is also subtle but tricky, links-style mounding defining each of the fairways and landing areas. The course strikes a nice balance of player-friendly and difficult holes but be prepared for the final holes on both the front and back nine, they are considered the toughest on the golf course.

Favorite course
First time playing the course with a handicap flag and their new GPS. Wasn't happy with that. They turned off the restrictions for main play, but the restrictions remaining were too severe for a person who has trouble walking. Couldn't get close to the greens and left you having to walk up the slope to most greens. I ended up walking 2.5 miles with a flag!!!! I wouldn't have been able to play here after my accident. I could swing a club but couldn't walk that far. Need to make it more accessible. Would hate to not be able to play here anymore.
Everything is Right
This course offers an excellent practice facility, friendly staff, great course conditions, and a true golf experience for all. I have played this course at least 20 times this year and it is always a pleasure planning to play.
My Favorite Course in the area
Such a fun layout. I drive up from Jax to play this course several times a year and it never disappoints. It is definitely my favorite course in the North Florida/South Georgia area, and delivers a lot of bang for the buck. 5 stars all day every day
A diamond in the rough!
I traveled 50 min. to play this course but it was well worth it.
Course was in excellent condition.
Enjoyed every aspect of the game all around the course.
Although not much of any amenities after play.
Nice day
Course tee to green excellent.
Very little water
Not too many bunkers
Greens roll true and quick. Maybe a 9
Pace of play excellent.
One of the Best
This is without question one of the best courses in the northern Florida / southern Georgia region and that includes all the overpriced course on Amelia Island. And when you consider the value for the money it is the best. Even though it is a 50 min to 1 hour distance from our northern Florida location, my son and I have enjoyed playing it multiple times. And will continue to play it.
Best value in Southeast Georgia! Greens have good on probation but not scary. Greenspeed runs between 10 and 12. Plenty of grass in the fairways and rough. Good challenge from any set of tees. Really hard to lose a golf ball here. Played it 20 to 25 times
Quite course
Good conditions some wet spots in bunkers overall fine golf course
Great course
This is an awesome course. I make sure I play it every time I’m in town. Course lay out is great for any golfer and is always in great condition.
Great shape
Had an early tee time. Pace of play was great. Course is in great shape right now. If you play early or later in the day I suggest bug spray.
Happy to play
Course in good shape little water on fairway heavy rain day before greens in great shape.
