Lakes Golf Course at Laura Walker State Park
About
Situated at the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, the Lakes Golf Course at Laura S. Walker State Park is home to an abundance of native plants and wildlife including alligators, gopher tortoises, and blue herons. True to its name, the course has three large lakes and the layout is routed through numerous varieties of oak trees and palmettos. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with heavily undulating greens, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. There is also subtle but tricky, links-style mounding defining each of the fairways and landing areas. The course strikes a nice balance of player-friendly and difficult holes but be prepared for the final holes on both the front and back nine, they are considered the toughest on the golf course.

great Friday round
It was a little wet, but to be expected after all the rain the last few weeks. Tee boxes and greens in perfect shape. Greens were hard and FAST! fast as i have ever seen them. Saw that they are raising rates by 5 bucks....I guess that is fair considering the shape the course is in right now. Keep up the good work folks! I will be back.
State course always a pleasure
Laura Walker State Course is always a pleasurable experience.
First the staff always welcomes you. Nice!
The tee boxes, fairways and greens are in great shape. The fairways are generous and plush. The greens are large and pin placements are challenging. Two puts are welcome, there are 3 putts out there, be careful
Enjoy,
Waycross Golf
The course was in very nice condition. The putting greens was a little slow but held great. I would definitely play this course again and invite some friends. Great staff!!!
Nice Play in the GA pines
Very fun course..only drawback is after it rains some of the dips in the fairway make for new water hazards. But overall a fun place to play and quiet like most courses in GA.
State park public course
For a public course the state is doing a great job. Fairways were lush and greens rolled true. Played 3 times this weekend and pace was great, under 4 hours each time.
New Favorite Course.
Looking for a new course to play and found it. Very nice setup with outstanding staff. Greens are excelent and love the layout. Already scheduled next visit.
great condition
Course is in really good shape. Only concerns is that the green would not hold a ball at all. I understand the greens are fairly new so I am sure that is why,. Will definitely play again!
Hidden gem!
This is an outstanding course in an area that doesn’t have a lot of courses around. The grounds are kept in great shape and you can tell the staff has put in the work to keep it as so. I will definitely be playing this again!
Great Public Course
The course is in really nice condition, the grass is cut, the rough is not too severe and right now the greens are a little on the slow side. There is a sign saying the greens will be aerated next week (21st) so the putting will be bumpy for a couple of weeks, but overall this is a great course to enjoy nature and the game.
The course is in great shape the new greens are still a little fast but manageable can’t wait to play there again!
PLAY IT AGAIN
I play this course 2 to 4 times annually. Some really short holes you can take advantage of to score.
Fairways, Boxes, Greens all in good condition.
The greens on this course is where you will be challenged. The speed is fast, guessing around 9 to 9.5
On the meter. Tricky breaks throughout....
Don't be late on your red flag tee time. They don't
give that tee time any respect. I was fortunate in that
they allowed me to get out an hour after my tee time.
I get it. People do make tee times for the discounted rate and then come to play when they want. So I am grateful for that allowance.
I visit and play The Lakes a couple of times each year, staying at the nearby park campground. It’s a nice , fun curse. Not as lush this year due to very dry conditions. I understand the greens were regrassed recently and they were very firm and the grass is a bit thin. Hopefully, they will grow in nicely as we get into the summer rainy season.
