Lakes Golf Course at Laura Walker State Park
About
Situated at the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, the Lakes Golf Course at Laura S. Walker State Park is home to an abundance of native plants and wildlife including alligators, gopher tortoises, and blue herons. True to its name, the course has three large lakes and the layout is routed through numerous varieties of oak trees and palmettos. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with heavily undulating greens, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. There is also subtle but tricky, links-style mounding defining each of the fairways and landing areas. The course strikes a nice balance of player-friendly and difficult holes but be prepared for the final holes on both the front and back nine, they are considered the toughest on the golf course.

Love the new greens!
The most important aspect of course conditions are the greens ...the new greens make this course a favorite!
Greens are the smoothest around
The course has transitioned into dormant grass in the fairways. Greens are still very firm but are the smoothest I've seen since our groups trip to Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama. Worth the drive.
Greens are great
This is my go to, local course and it's so much better than a "state park" course....... the recent money spent to TOTALLY redo the greens was money well spent, and the staff is keeping them in great shape.... keep up the great work guys!!!!
Lakes at Laura
Overall my experience was great . The only thing thing I didn’t like was the pace of play .. there were too many people playing for it to be more enjoyable .. there were golfers lining up 3 deep to start off the tee on most holes . But the golf course is nice , the greens are still new so they are hard and fast .. but that being said I would recommend playing here …
It’s a great layout
The last time we played here is when they lost the greens, I never played on the temporary greens. I’d heard the greens were hard & they were as expected. But the greens look real good & they putt great, I was surprised at how good they were. The only disappointment was when we got there it was cart path only & we had driven 1 hour & 15 minutes to get there, but overall we all had a great day & will be back soon,, the whole course is in great shape.
Great Day
We found the course to be challenging but fair. We are looking forward to going back soon.
Very nice Golf outing to kick off our Golf Week
This course is fantastic the challenges are all visible, a few doglegs that are risk reward shots. The condition of these new greens are worth the ride I can’t see them doing nothing but improving. We had a great time. We will be back.
A good course to play
This is the 2nd Golf Course we have play that is ran by the state Of Georgia and both course have been in great shape and fun to play.
New Greens are looking good
Tee'd off at 10 and played in 3.5 hours. No rushing.
Tee boxes and fairways are looking very nice.
The new greens are rolling great but beware...the surface is hard.
1 or 2 times being punched and they will be awesome!!!
Aim for the front edge is the way I played the new greens...worked well.
The sand in the sand traps has had a year to settle in and is perfect...yes, I found several.
Looking forward to getting a group up for a full weekend of play.
Golfing close to the Swamp
The course is in good shape. New greens are extremely hard and not very receptive. They putt good though.
Getting better
The new greens are getting better each week. The remainder of the course is in good shape and being well maintained.
