Lakes Golf Course at Laura Walker State Park
About
Situated at the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, the Lakes Golf Course at Laura S. Walker State Park is home to an abundance of native plants and wildlife including alligators, gopher tortoises, and blue herons. True to its name, the course has three large lakes and the layout is routed through numerous varieties of oak trees and palmettos. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with heavily undulating greens, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. There is also subtle but tricky, links-style mounding defining each of the fairways and landing areas. The course strikes a nice balance of player-friendly and difficult holes but be prepared for the final holes on both the front and back nine, they are considered the toughest on the golf course.

Fun to play
My son and I, had a great day, greens were nice. Really fun to play, will be back soon to play again.
Nice course.
Nice peaceful course.Golfer friendly layout except for # 8 & 17. Much much improved. Give it a try when in the area.
Great Course, Great Value
Played this course for the first time, and really fell in love with it. Played 3 more times during the week. The staff was awesome and extremely friendly. The course Pro was very helpful and quite funny. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone. There is something to be said about hitting the fairway, which is critical on this course. the Bermuda rough is deep and tough to get the club head thru. Course was in great shape from tee to green. This is two courses in one, the front nine is more traditional while the back nine is a links style. Very challenging.
Greens are back & fairways are lush but what is up with bunkers?
My son & I played an early round. The ground crews were playing catch up from a heavy rain the day before but course is in pretty good shape. Greens were nice. The huge waste bunkers that define some of the holes have not been maintained.
Other than the greens........
Had a great time on our first trip to this course. Super friendly staff, to include the cafe' staff. Other than the greens, the tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. The greens were not good. Speaking with the Marshal, he stated that for some reason, the greens didn't come back this spring, but they are working on getting them back. I'd call ahead of time and inquire on the green conditions before I went back., Oh, and one hole, the entire hole from teebox to green was dead, and brown, but still playable.
Great layout
I've been playing here for years & have never seen the greens in this bad of shape. We drove an hour to play & we're very disappointed. I was told after we finished that in May the course is closing for 2 months, that's how bad it is. Right now it's worth $10. The pro shop should be telling people when they book what they are in for. We play once a week & never would have came if we had known the course conditions. The course is normally in excellent condition, one of the best around.
Good Course, Bad Greens
The Course plays very well, normally not very crowded. But expect to two putt about every time, no matter how close you are to the pin...the greens are in very bad shape. There is hardly any grass, and they are choppy in several areas, a ball won't hold a line at all, and forget sticking it on the green. Bunkers need raked, very hard in places. I'd recommend the course every other spot, fairways are very nice, and the ladies in the shop are so friendly! Course has a beautiful natural layout, just got to get the greens fixed and quickly.
The greens are not ready for spring time.
Was really expecting the course to be in better condition. The greens have not grown in yet. Looks to be at least a month before they'll be ready.
Worth the drive
Best day of golf this month, we drove 50 miles to play this course. This course is one to add to your play list in SE Georgia
Nice course
This course managed to make itself playable even in winter conditions. It's pretty straightforward, but you still have to make your shots. Not too long. The 2 nines are pretty well balanced in difficulty. If you're in the area and want to get a pleasant round in, it's a great spot.
Generally Good
The course was having greens worked on and never advised us of this. When we arrived we were niot listed as having a tee time and told it was Golf Now's problem. We were slightly early and had to wait for tee time. to arrive. We were the told that even though we signed up as a twosome we would be assigned 2 more to our group, no options. The tee time reserveed by Golf now was open. We were told that the twosome to be assign us would be coming soon. They never showed. We were assigned a husband and wife (walk ons) to play with. I felt this was very shoddy way of handling things on the part of the course pro. we had planned as playing as a twosome as this was a Monday afternoon. As we teed off a single came up behind us. He was playing alone and had no none one with him. Had we known we would be assigned playing partners we may have deferred to a different course.
Nice Course
The greens are fast and the course is in great condition. I'll be playing here again as often as possible.
Cannot go wrong with Georgia State Parks Golf Courses
I have played this course before. Though it is 1 hour and 40 min from my home, I knew the drive was worth it! Georgia State Parks Courses are very well maintained and this course is no exception. Greens were firm and fast. Fairways were in terrific shape. There were few people on the course on this afternoon. The element of this course that is so attractive is the utter quiet from being deep in this state park.
Excellent layout in great condition!
The Lakes is worth the trip to the swamp. The drive alone up to the course through Laura Walker State Park is a highlight. This course is always in excellent shape and features very tempting risk-reward holes that can greatly payoff or leave you wishing you had been more conservative. Always fun!
Love this course!
This is a great course in Waycross Gerogia. Fairways and greens are almost always in great condition. Aside from the course conditions the natural beauty is what makes this place special, just make sure to watch out for the gators and snakes....If you lose a ball deep in the woods just let it go! Very affordable, especially thanks to golf now, and always a good time.
Great layout greens and traps need work
Course needs work on bunkers and more importantly the greens. For a state course the greens were very bad and very disappointing.
North Florida/South Georgia area jewel
The tee boxes and fairways were in fabulous condition. Most greens look pretty good. Overall the course was well manicured. The course is very challenging but very quality. For summer, the bugs were not too bad and there was ice cold water placed every 3 holes or so. I'll definitely go back and play again.
State Park Course
Course is always in very good condition. Ground crew and administrative personnel are always friendly and courteous.
Great place to play a round
Great greens and overall nice place to spend time chasing the ball.
A Long-Time Favorite
LSW is a very nice golf course, one we always visit once a week during our holidays at Saint Simons Island ... despite the drive, which is just more than an hour. Not only is the price right, one is invariably guaranteed a pleasant experience: a well-designed and maintained course, good service and a relatively fast pace-of-play. A 'keeper'.
