Crane's Landing at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort
About
Crane's Landing Golf Club is the centerpiece of Lincolnshire Marriott Resort. Designed by George Fazio, the course winds across 110 acres of preserved woodlands. It is a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary that offers stunning views of the Des Plaines River nearby. At just over 6,300 yards, the golf course is not particularly lengthy but it still offers some formidable challenges. Water is a prominent feature of the course with ponds and a winding river coming into play on 12 holes. The greens are small and raised and the sculpted fairways are tightly lined with mature trees, demanding accuracy off the tee. Crane's Landing Golf Club's back nine is especially difficult thanks to the river, which runs along the entire left side of the 13th hole and also appears on no. 17, the course's longest hole.

Rip off - stay away
The course waited until I showed up to tell me that the back nine was closed due to flooding. The major problem is that the storms that flooded the course were 5 days ago and they still waited until day of to let people know.
On top of that, half way through playing the front 9, a ranger shut down the fairway and made us play the 8th as a par 3. No notice from the pro shop or starter before starting our already shortened round. No discount because we were actually playing the full 9 holes. The front 9is already the shorter 9 and the whole front 9 ended up being less than 2,500 yards… extremely frustrating after driving an hour to get there and almost 2 to get back. Will never be back and recommend anyone contemplating playing here to save your money and go somewhere else. The Arboretum down the road is a much better option.
Getting Better
They’ve made several improvements and the overall experience was much better than last year.
This course is in terrible condition
Not only were the green shot and bumpy but there is no water on the coolers on the course. I understand what the person designing. The course is trying to do but it doesn’t simply work. The front nine plays a lot shorter than the back nine. There is zero golf etiquette on the course.
Recent return to Crane's Landing
This was the first time I played Crane's Landing in over 25 years. First off, I was very surprised by the great condition of the course (in mid July!). The greens and fairways were in great shape, even with the significant amount of recent rainfall and the usual morning dew at 8AM. The layout was what I remembered - a relatively short, narrow course that rewards smart decision making and accurate tee and iron shots. That said, there were usually options to afford a miss off the tee and still be able to make a good number (generally right). The wide greens also provided some directional room for error as well. A number of times something less than driver is the best option off the tee (probably something we all should do more often). Pace of play was excellent. Lastly, the staff I encountered were helpful and friendly. Overall a great golfing experience!
good value for a decent course
A little muddy certain holes near the river as to be expected. Lot of unrepaired ball marks on the greens but that should be a player etiquette thing. Staff was friendly. Got a hot deal and for that rate, it was a bargain.
Nice course
Tight course and above average conditions. I would come back.
Golfer delight ⛳️
Eric and Natalia are the excellent pro shop hosts!
Course has its challenges and should not take it lightly.
So beware hit em straight and far always 🏌️♂️
Vastly improving!
It’s been many years since I played this course, and I was impressed with the conditions, course layout, staff is organized and friendly…
You ALMOST get a country club feel. Yes, it’s still a public course but the staff said they poured in money last year (2023) and they are pouring more this year. He said that come 2025, it’ll be a super, super course.
So, I will play again and recommend you try it now and next year!
Golf was after a major rain storm. Everywhere was flooded and probably should of closed course for the day
A great comeback story
Course has rebounder splendidly from the water damage sustained a few seasons ago. Fairways are nice to hit from, rough is appropriately penalizing (but not excessively). Even the bunkers were decent, no complaints there either. Shout out to Stephanie (think that's right) @ the bar for the good post-round drinks & conversation. I had stayed away from Cranes Landing for year's after the course sustained enormous damage due to flooding 7 or 8 years ago. This course is ONCE AGAIN, BACK IN ROTATION! Great value too!
