I liked it and will go back for the right price, but it's far from the best course in the area. Sand in the bunkers and fixing divots would go a long way. Definitely check it out.

Great links layout. Wide fairways, need length off tee on this course. Links style offers many differ shot making opportunities.

Greens-great shape; fairways-fantastic shape. The only complaint I had was a lack of yardage markers. The 150 pole is very evident on every hole, the 200 or 100 is sometimes tough to find even in the fairway. Some sprinkler heads have yardage markers, but most are missing any kind of distance indicators. Score cards are as basic as you get, yardage and that's it. Same for the tee box markers. The sign says its hole number 2, but doesn't say its 630 to the green. I still love this course, but for the price, an upgrade in the yard markers or gps in the carts would make this a 5 star course.

Although very warm I (single) paired with a threesome and they were very pleasant to play with. The pace of play was quite good considering how hot it was (95= deg). Staff was very courteous. Overall a very enjoyable afternoon.

Played here a few times, love the course. Price is a little high, but unfortunately it's comparable to other courses. My main complaint is that if we do not get a group of 4 together, we are forced to play with an additional person, which to me is very annoying and a way for them to make an extra buck. I've asked multiple times they don't pair us up with others and what I've gotten in return is guilt for not allowing others to golf because the course is busy. So now I'm forced into 4 hours of awkward conversations instead of having fun with my friends I chose to come with. I don't see this changing and when I'm forced to play here, this is the first thing that pops in my head.

Course is awesome. Very fair, reachable par 5s, tough par 3s. Pace of play was a bit slow, no rangers to move play along. Tee time was at 3:30 they didn't get us away until 4:00. Took nearly 3 hours for nine holes. Worth playing if you get the chance. I will be going back and booking through golf now. Next time I will try a weekday instead of a Saturday.

It was our first time to play Gateway National...and I am sure we will go back. The greens are in great shape!! The overall course was in very good condition. Met some great fellow golfers too! Enjoyed it all'

I love this course, however, no marshals means slow play...... Five hour rounds are the norm if you tee off after 9 am. I get it, it's not an easy course, but there is no policing at all. Sometimes guys need to know when to pick it up and move on to the next hole. You won't get that at a gateway.

Bring a lunch, it's going to be a long day.

I played this course on a windy 40 degree day for the first time. Even though the bent grass fairways were saturated from the week's rain, it was still enjoyable hitting from a well-manicured surface. The greens were surprisingly fast for all the moisture they've seen. I would love to play this links course during the regular season to enjoy the lush fairways and greens. There are no big dog leg fairways, but there are plenty of hazards and challenges to keep you honest. I consider this course a must play when you're in the St. Louis area.

I play this course a few times a year or more. It is one of the best in the metro area and always in great condition. Difficult layout but fair. Judge your tee boxes correctly otherwise it will seem long.

First class course

Not an average course on a clear day! I played after some severe rain in MO/IL and the course does not drain well. If the weather is clear, this is a A+ course!

The course was challenging. The links style set up was challenging and seemed to play longer than the markers. It was a very good value for the price.

This was my first time playing the course, and I will return quickly. The tee boxes and fairways were in excellent condition. The bent grass fairways allowed for great control with iron shots. I caught the greens after an aeration, so the putting was tough. Some greens had a large volume of sand and were bumpy. Also, maybe its just a public course thing, but there were a large amount of ball marks needing repair. All these greens issues made reading the greens and gauging speed putts difficult. Wind is a factor with this course also. Some hole played longer than the listed yardage. All in all, this was an excellent course and I will be returning! You should give it a try.

From the tee boxes to the green the course is in amazing shape. Overall my favorite course in the Saint Louis area.

Course was good. We got stuck behind a slow 2-some that took 8 practice swings each shot. Ended up skipping a hole ahead of them so we could get as many holes in before dark.

If you're looking for a challenging course with exceptional playing conditions, look no further than Gateway National. If you live in the St. Louis area, you know that unless you play at a high-end country club, you're gonna be putting on greens that resemble the Moon. Nobody repairs their ball marks. It's like a disease or something. But, when you come to Gateway, you'll see greens that people respect and care for. If you hit up twilight, be careful of backed up tee boxes. But, for $25, you won't find a better deal after work to relieve some stress by whacking a few balls into pristine fairways with a stunning view of downtown St. Louis at almost every turn. If there's one downside to Gateway, it's the amount of people that play. You won't find another course in the area with a better tee-to-green experience than Gateway. I wish they'd pay me to say this stuff, but they won't. I've tried.

Go play Gateway!
