Hapuna Golf Course
About
Hapuna Golf Course stretches along the beautiful Kohala coastline before rising to over 700 feet above sea level. The snow-topped Mauna Kea volcano serves as a dramatic backdrop and there are seemingly endless views of the Pacific. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay collaborated to create a visually stunning links course that utilizes the natural contours of the landscape and silky fescue grasses. The design team has received praise for not only the challenge of the design but also for how seamlessly it blends into the existing environment. Palmer incorporated several risk-reward opportunities, especially with the par 5s, the14th is a good example. There are many ways to play this hole, which features a large ravine on the right and a wide, but shallow green. Long hitters can reach the green in two but short hitters prefer two shots and a par 3.

Aloha, now feed me! Photo submitted by golfsilverock on 01/17/2013
Great Views!
Excellent Value! Beautiful Views! There is a duck on one of
the holes that comes up to greet you! Aloha, now feed me! Hilarious!
Fair course with beauty all around.
My husband and I have been here a week and played a variety of courses. This is definitely my favorite. I am an 18 handicap and found this course challenging but fair. The views are beautiful from almost every hole. We were able to play at a great discounted rate from Golfnow and would definitely play again.
Great Arnold Palmer Design
This course is an excellent value on the northwest side of The Big Island. Well Maintained. Some visually intimidating tee shots and has less of that generous wide rough than many resort courses. My home course is very tight and I found this to be a very fair test.
Don't let the practice green fool you, the actual greens are anything but flat. I under read the break on many holes early.
Back nine is longer and more difficult. Will definitely play again
This course is filled with spectacular views - makes it special
It's not often that the wind isn't blowing hard at Hapuna but today was super calm. It made the round really enjoyable. I played by myself and had a wonderful time. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. I love to play here.
Hapuna is a good value for Hawaii
The course is beautiful and has some stunning views. Very well maintained. The goat herd on the back 9 was interesting!
Vistas, Vistas and more views
Played it many times over the years and it survived the great resession intact. Only negative that their bar and restaurant, Arnie's, is closed. We will play it again next week.
Nice layout. great views. super staff.
Played Mauna Kea also. Just a step below. Similar feel.
Definitely would come back and also recommend. Aloha!
A great course.with fantastic views. With the wind on the day we played the course played Long. Super friendly staff! Well worth playing.

Course was in excellent condition
Enjoyable...not as challenging as some other courses in the area, but was in great condition & has great views of the Kohala coast.
Very challenging hole layouts, with a lot of slopes
Great views form many tee boxes. The fairways are in great shape and require a wide variety of shots. We also had the unique viewing of about 25 wild goats crossing the 13th fairway. Wonderful entertainment & photo opportunities.
Nice course, nice price
Hapuna is a very nice course, well laid out. The holes are not super long, but the fairways are tighter than most of the resort courses on Kona.
Fantastic views from all over the course. The staff was very friendly.
This is the sister course to Mauna Kea. The price is considerably less, but the service and staff are the same.
Nowhere at the facility to get any food.
Very disappointed. When arriving, no restaurant for lunch. Advised to go to Mauna Kea Hotel for lunch. All but one restaurant closed. Only one open inconvenient for time allowed for lunch. Entire complex FOR SALE. Never again until property is managed and operated appropriately.
Good variety of holes with elevation changes and amazing views of the ocean on most holes
This course offered friendly service at check-in, good pace of play. The course was in very nice shape and had a great variety of holes (long par 5s, short par 4s and everything in between). We enjoyed this course so much the first time, we stopped looking around and just played it again. It was just as much fun the second time around.
Great value
Got the golfnow rate and it was a great deal. Course was a ton of fun to play with fast play too. Conditions were good but not perfect. Staff was awesome and really helpful. Definitely will recommend this course to everyone I know.
Excellent course. Open yet tough. Great views.
.Our Day was sunny and very windy. Helpful and friendly staff. Very good course, open yet challenging, good condition. Better than the other two we played on the Big Island i.e..Makalei and Big Island GC. Like a small sister to Kapalua but for the golf now price better value. Use a fairway wood off 18 tee.
Greens are sanded every other Wednesday
Fun with some great views. All the range balls you want.
You'll enjoy this course.
Hapuna is a good vacation course, although not as open as many others (e.g., Kona Country Club). The lava and tall grasses surrounding the fairways make accuracy critical. PROS The course is fairly short, and the white (forward) tees make the Par 4's about 300 yards in length on average. The hills make the course challenging. When we played, no wind was blowing which is often more typical of the area. We took advantage of the "Twilight" rate, i.e., after 1 PM, and found the course quite open. CONS Although the staff was pleasant and provided 4 bottles of water on the cart, there was no drink cart on the course in the afternoon and no additional water was available. The greens were newly sanded; no notice was fiven at least on the Golf Now site. OVERALL. We would play the course again. It was very enjoyable.
Good but not great. For $50 on golf now a good value.
Greens were just coming in after punching. Fairways very good. Par 3's are a little weak. Some great views. Staff good. Starter and cart person very good. Practice facilities very good. Plays easier than rating from blues.
Course was in great shape, best value of all the resort courses in the area!
I've been visiting and golfing on the Big Island every year over the past 12 years, staying and playing most of my rounds at Mauna Lani Resort with the North course being my favorite of the two. My recent round at Hapuna was amazing! The course layout was more challenging than Mauna Lani and the fairways and greens were in beautiful condition. I've also played Mauna Kea, which before playing Hapuna, was the best course I've played in the area. I paid 1/2 price on GolfNow to play this course, but next year I'll be playing it again even at regular greens fees, which is still about half the rate of the other resorts.
Very good dynamics ,,, sister course to Mauna Kea GC
Challenging, but fair. Front nine have significant slope and putting greens force focus on mountain vs. ocean orientation. Back nine are long and club selection is a premium especially in the normal trade winds!
