Maui Nui Golf Club
About
The classic design of Maui Nui Golf Club combines different elements including reachable holes that face each cardinal point with strong prevailing winds that reward smart play for a layout that is both fair and challenging. The layout wanders through the foothills of Haleakula, providing subtle elevation changes as well as views of the ocean and the surrounding West Maui Mountains and the volcanic atoll Molokini. The golf course has a variety of holes that will have you hitting downwind, upwind, and with both left and right crosswinds. A few lakes and ponds also come into play. Maui Nui Golf Club's layout features generous fairways and large greens. The difficulty of the course depends heavily on the speed of the prevailing winds that day. Golfers will be greatly rewarded by keeping the ball in play and good putting and chipping skills.

Course is improving
I played on 2/10/25 and my review is based on paying $100 with a cart. Every trip to Maui over the last four years I try to play here at least once, sometimes twice. Each year the course has improved from new carts, new tee boxes and improved greens. Coming from the SF Bay Area this course is equal to playing a muni for $65. There are nicer courses in Maui for $175+. Pro shop, cart attendant/starters and food cart lady are all friendly. This course is priced appropriately.
Disappointing
We had not played Maui Nui for several years as the last time we were there, the course was in less than average condition. We thought we’d give it a second chance but I’m sorry to say, yesterday’s experience was no different. Tee boxes, especially from the forward tees, were poorly maintained and the greens were not in good shape. There was loose debris throughout the course. I’m glad we didn’t pay full price for the round. We won’t play there again.
Maui Nui Mud
Do to heavy rains the course was very wet and muddy. We were not informed by the course or GolfNow that 7 of the 18 holes were closed. At the pro shop we were given the option together a refund, which we were informed was time consuming or play 22 holes, the 11 open holes twice. We chose the latter option. Once on the course we found out it was cart path only. This made the play extremely slow and it took us 6 hours to finish the 22 holes. Crazy!
Cart girl ROCKS!
Cart girl was the best and made sure to check on us! Even went out of her way to get what we were asking for if she didn’t have it on her cart! Made the day fun and was the highlight of the day!
Our review
Overall course was super dry. The male washroom was disgusting. Tee box was awful. Greens were beat up. Would not play again.
A very enjoyable round of golf!
This was our second round of golf at Maui Nui this vacation and we have played it on previous visits to Maui, and will definitely play it again in the future. When I rated it 4 stars on a previous review the management seemed disappointed that I hadn’t given it 5 stars. But this is not a 5 star resort, the driving range needed new mats and an easy way to tee up for a driver and maybe some yardage markers. Some of the greens were not in the best shape although overall the conditions were very good. Ball washers on the course would have been nice. The club house was fine, and the attached restaurant was good but nothing fancy ( we did have a good cocktail and delicious coconut shrimp). So the club is not in the same class as say Kapalua or Wailea, but we just can’t justify paying 3-4 times the green fees at those kind of courses when we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves playing Maui Nui. So, while some minor upgrades could be done, I sincerely hope that they don’t make any major changes that would make them increase their green fees. For us, 4 stars is exactly what we’re looking for!
Maui Nui Review
Course is well located, friendly staff. Fairways are in decent shape, greens are slow and/or inconsistent.
No ball washers. Our cart stalled many times, signs are needed to direct carts near tee boxes and greens.
Pace was a bit slow.
Overall- our round was “okay”…..
Good Course Reasonable Price
In interesting course and layout made it fun to play. If you need more challenge just move to the back tees. We would have finished in three hours but hit a very slow beginner trying to play from back tees. We still finished in under 3.5 hours.
Very Disappointed!
Canadian golfer that loves playing Maui golf courses was honestly shocked how poor of a condition Maui Nui was. For some unknown reason, no hole signs, the front 9 was a complete mess with trees everywhere. Bunkers had 2 different soil types, some with sand and some with grinded up lava rock...very weird. Sod farm in front of the par 3 17th hole????? Even the golf cart GPS was out of sink without any golf hole signs...really!
Do not play this course, total waste of money. Pukalani golf course (see my review) was in 10 times the shape at half the cost. Aloha.
