About
Maui's Ka'anapali Resort is built upon 1,200 acres of land home to ancient Hawaiian royalty and is home to two 18-hole championship golf courses. The Royal Ka'anapali course was built in 1962 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., who created undulating greens and wide fairways to accent views of the Pacific Ocean and West Maui Mountains. This championship challenge has played host to such events as the Champions TOUR Ka'anapali Classic for 14 years, LPGA Kemper Cup and Shell's Wonderful World of Golf, and such legends as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Jan Stephanson and Betsy King have competed here. Guests of the Ka'anapali Resort receive discounts on green fees at both Royal Ka'anapali and newer Ka'anapali Kai, which was extensively renovated in 2005.

Great course and fun to play
Always a treat to play either course at Kaanapali. The Royal is a little more difficult but also more fun. Figuring out the slope and breaks on the greens is a lot of fun. Great views from many of the holes! Great staff and very good Course conditions.

Kenny’s review of Kanapaali
My friend rob and I played this course and had a great time. Greens weee tremendous and so many great views. Course reminded me of a local course in Brewster, WA named Gamble Sands. Resort style course that doesn’t whoop you! Yes, there’s some water and tough putting reads, reading the grain on the grass significantly affects putting speed. We finished our round in under 4 hours and got many great pics. I would love to play again especially if the fee wasn’t so high. No alcohol with cart girl which was frustrating. To go drinks available before you tee off but can’t get there easily at the turn. Wonderful course and memory.

This course had friendly staff
Kaanapali is a great place to play. Wide open fairways yet challenging pin positions. Renovation being done on Hole 7, which could've been explained at the start. Weather is always a factor especially the wind.

Fun course great pace of play
How can you complain when you're on vacation and play a 3 hr and 10 minute round. Rain in the forcast but held off all day. If you're on Maui there are no really bad courses. Just some are a little harder than others!

Meh
For the price and prestige, I expected a completely different experience. If you're looking for a course with the same layout for 18 holes, you're in luck. No beverage cart and water stations were dry for half the course. It's clearly a cash cow to charge tourists whatever they want. I feel any of the cheaper courses around Maui play the exact same for a quarter of the cost. Greens were in rough shape with burn patches everywhere. Barely any scenic views, unless you enjoy looking at the back side of people's vacation houses. One hole played alongside a crowded public beach. Dress code felt optional as some individuals were playing in muscle shirts. No Marshall for upkeeping pace of play. Clubhouse personal were not friendly or helpful except bag boy with the club rentals was very nice. I give him 5 stars, no one else. Course starter not friendly and did not explain course at all. I would suggest spending hard earned money elsewhere

Good, but not great
The Royal Course was difficult for the first time being played. Course conditions by Hawaii standards were average and the layout was the same. It was fun to play however compared to Wailea or Kapalua it doesn't come close in my opinion.

Course is great, driving range is awful
The course is amazing and can see why it’s consistently rated one of the best in Maui. The driving range is an absolute joke and makes you feel like you’re playing at some low budget municipal course. For a Troon golf course and the amount you have to pay, you expect high end course AND facilities. It really dampens the whole experience. For the money I’d likely go someplace else.

Golf cart wouldnt get up the hills on back 9 - had to push it Cart GPS had no button to call clubhouse for assistance. For the price paid, this shouldnt have happened. No bevwrage cart out and it was an extremely hot datly. Pro shop staff could be much more personable.
