About
The Ka'anapali Resort on Maui is home to two championship golf courses, set on 1,200 acres of land home to ancient Hawaiian royalty. The Ka'anapali Kai course is an Arthur Jack Snyder design from 1976 that received an extensive renovation in 2005. The golf course is shorter and has a lower slope/rating compared to its sister Royal Ka'anapali course, but also plays narrower in most spots. Many holes are tucked into the West Maui Mountains The golf course is women-friendly with a forward set of "Hibiscus" tees at 4,522 yards, and also less expensive to resort guests and visitors compared to Royal Ka'anapali, which has played host to numerous professional events.

Golfer Reviews
Disappointed
The Kai course does not impress me as a resort course. The layout is fairly straightforward (flatter fairways than Royal) but it really resembles a low-end course. The first hole is particularly unimpressive as it plays along the roadway and has no nice features at all. The Kai course is also used for footgolf (or something) and has these stupid flags all over the course which detracts from any attractiveness that the course might have. We found it more playable than Royal but the course conditions are not any better. If we are ever in Maui again, we will pass on playing either Kaanapali course.
Fun course
The Kaanapali Kai course is a fun course to play with generous Fairways. The Sandtraps can be very challenging, especially when wet from a rain. The course has many nice views of the ocean and surrounding areas.
Fun layout
Great layout, fun course.
Greens a little weedy and rough in places, only thing that detracted from experience.
Beautiful Course
Course was beautiful and played well. Greens were aerated but still were good. Bunkers had hard red dirt instead of white sand. Not a fan. Cart girl was very nice and helpful too! Good day on Maui!
Need Marshall’s on the course slow play
Course was in good condition- greens needed trimming since they were rough and slow. Fairways good but rough was tough need to mowing. Rough by greens needs trimming. Chipping tough.
Lastly slow groups need to let faster groups play thru. I lost my 2some play with me at the 11th hole due to exceeding round of 4 hours. As a single I skipped a hole and played thru.
Really bad sanded green we weren't told about beforehand.
Otherwise enjoyable course
My review
Love playing this course. Staff always friendly and pace of play is great. Thank you
Wow. Nice.
Appreciate playing a course that's not 300.00 or more, that still offers beauty and a challenge .
Thank you.
Great vslue
We played 18 holes in 3 hrs 15 minutes and only waited twice before teeing off. Rough was very playable and well kept. Very well priced tee times if you are willing to tee off mid to late afternoon.
Fair
If you go to Maui and have played here before n the most. The Kai course is definitely with the money. I usually play Kapalua plantation, when I stay on this side of the island. I decided to try the Kai course since we were staying at the Hyatt. And I was pleasantly surprised in a good way. Challenging fun layout. Definitely worth $175-$200
Convenient and close to Kaanapali if staying there
Overall good vacation course. When on vacation, you don’t want to punish yourself and just have an enjoyable round. If this is you, then I recommend Kai. It is a pretty straightforward course and gettable as long as the wind doesn’t kick in. Once the wind kicks in, forget about it. The course becomes a super hard course. So play in the morning if you want to score. If you are looking for a challenge the. Play in the afternoon and you will be playing a super hard course.
Good but I expected more
When you think Ka'anapali, you think prestigious golf courses. While the course was nice, I felt some of the green were really slow and not particularly well maintained. Tee boxes the same, OK but I thought they would be nicer.
I would play here again, it is way cheaper than the Royal Course, and now I understand why.
Good Times!
Played the Kai course with my son and we had a blast? Love the layout and the challenging holes! See you next year!
Condition of greens were poor
Condition of greens were poor due to sanding. Price should have been discounted. Conditions should have been made public at booking I would have chosen different course
Way over priced
Greens are in absolute horrible shape with some type of weed growing in them. Whoever cuts and replaces hole locations has no clue what they are doing.
Kaanapali
Amazing course, staff was so friendly and outstanding. On the easier side but still some great and challenging holes with breathtaking views. Will be playing here again soon!
Beautiful views
The course was in great shape and for the price you can’t beat the views. I would gladly play it again on a return trip. Stacy was very helpful and appeared happy to assist.
