Pukalani Country Club
About
Pukalani Country Club has a unique location at the 1,100-foot elevation of the famous Mount Haleakala, an extinct volcano whose name means “House of the Rising Sun.” The dramatic elevation offers breathtaking views that span the West Maui Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The golf course features wide, undulating fairways and fast, sloped greens. The gently rolling terrain can cause some tricky uneven lies. There are trees and well placed bunkers scattered throughout to provide further challenge. Pukalani Country Club has a unique feature on the par-3 third hole. The hole gives golfers the options of hitting to one of two very different greens, one which requires a tee shot over a tree-filled gully and another that requires a shot beyond a cliff to a pal tree-lined green.

Friendly and Maintained Well
I was pleasantly surprised. The greens were very good and the staff and marshals were all so nice I had to buy a shirt. I think I was lucky with the weather as I expected cooler temps and higher winds, but it was warm and sunny with very moderate winds. I will play this course again before I leave Maui.
Oh, there were some nice views, too!
Another nice experience
This is a real pretty course. Nice layout in great shape. For whatever reason, the pace of play is really slow. We had 1:43 tee times and could not finish by 6 when they require all carts to be in. Couldn’t play the last 2 holes and got in right at 6. Have played it 3 times now (also in previous years) and it’s always like that. Bruce at the pro shop is the nicest man and a real asset.
Loved the course!
We played the course several times in January, as we love the course and the scenic views. It’s not a fancy course nor does it have fancy amenities. We really liked the little restaurant on site. I’m sure the recent rains helped and the course was in great shape. Lastly, it was bit warm in Kihei at times this year and the upcountry course was a few degrees cooler.
Slow. Slow. Slow.
Played an afternoon round, took 4 hours and only was able to play 12 holes. At 5:30 the Rangers came out and made you return your carts, even though there was an hour of daylight left. Pace of play was brutal, pretty disappointed in the premature closing. However , the fairways and greens are in nice shape despite the clubhouse/restaurant being a trailer.
Slow
Slow but beautiful. No marshall. What happened to the old clubhouse and restaurant??
3 Hours for 9 Holes.
When I first pulled up and saw the old clubhouse, boarded up, and a mobile trailer for the new pro shop, I got a little nervous. You can’t check in more than 20 minutes before your tee time (weird). A bucket of balls is $3. The staff is very friendly.
Good:
Value - Paid next to nothing using the TeeOff app
Conditions- fairway and greens are in great shape
Bad:
Pace of play- we played 11 holes in 3.5hrs
The Rangers come out at 5:15 and wrangle everyone off the course, as they want the carts back by 5:30. We were ushered off of a tee box at 5:25. I’ve never had that happen before. There was an hour of daylight left, it was unreasonable.
Great day at Pukalani, but sent home prematurely.
Enjoyed a really nice day playing Pukalani until a Ranger told us at 5:24 that we needed to end play to return the golf cart by 5:30. This seemed unreasonable and unfair, given that sundown was at 6:02PM without darkness approaching until 6:25PM. We should have been allowed to play 3 more holes, with no difference in outcome for the cart intake. This is not Customer focused, was unnecessary, and needs to be amended. Bad call from Management., or did the volunteer Ranger just want yo go home early for dinner?? He still gets his free golf either way. 👎🏼
Nice Value
Certainly not Kapalua but paid about $20 to play. Greens were fine, but fairways in rough shape.
Slow greens
Was told we had till 530 for carts to be back. Sunset is at 6. At 450 a guy comes and says this is your last hole I’m shutting down the course early. Can’t believe that’s even a thing
Local treat
Wide fairways with elevated tees
Hole #3 par 3 option to play two challenging tees
Afternoon windy with 3+ clubs
Plush Fairways beautiful greens
Their carts are a little old but a great place to play
Good bang for the buck.
Not a bad track for Maui. Better then paying a fortune when you want to play multiple times.
Good golf, good food, and nice staff
Play & eat, you will have fun for a reasonable price.
Great course with a nice local vibe.
A nice hidden gem just off the beaten path. Basic ameneties, older carts, trailer for a clubhouse but welcoming staff, a great little restaurant and a fantastic course. Great layout and course was in terrific conditions. Greens were very nice. Some holes have nice views of the water and countryside.
