Pukalani Country Club
About
Pukalani Country Club has a unique location at the 1,100-foot elevation of the famous Mount Haleakala, an extinct volcano whose name means “House of the Rising Sun.” The dramatic elevation offers breathtaking views that span the West Maui Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The golf course features wide, undulating fairways and fast, sloped greens. The gently rolling terrain can cause some tricky uneven lies. There are trees and well placed bunkers scattered throughout to provide further challenge. Pukalani Country Club has a unique feature on the par-3 third hole. The hole gives golfers the options of hitting to one of two very different greens, one which requires a tee shot over a tree-filled gully and another that requires a shot beyond a cliff to a pal tree-lined green.

Fun course
Really like the layout of this course. It is moderately challenging without being gimmicky.
Times change
I played this course many times over the years. We are frequent visitors to Maui and it is always on our schedule. The driving range had no useful areas in the allotted section on the range to hit from everything was basically dirt. That was a start. The greens are in good shape however they’re very slow. The Teebox some selves are uneven in a lot of places and when you’re making shots over the canyons as it is the one par three becomes challenging. Staff in the pro shop was somewhat surly not particularly friendly. We were admonished for showing up early but as a regular golfer I’d like to get there early so I can warm up and practice. They have new rules about carts being in by a certain time which meant that we could not finish around we only got 17 holes in. Overall customer service is severely lacking however the courseis fun to play.
Pukalani outing
This course is in great shape for the price! Greens are in great condition. Pace of play was very slow.
They kick you off way before sundown!
Good course in better condition than 3 ~ 4yr ago.
Only gripe is that the Marshalls hassle you to quit & turn in your cart 30min before sundown. What golfer wants that?? We all know to head in when ball visibility becomes difficult. Boo to crummy management!
Pukalani outing
This course was in really good condition except for the bumpy cart paths? I always lose a ball in the gully on the 3rd hole. But fun to see if I can make it over?
Pukalani outing
Course was in really good shape except for the bumpy cart paths? Pace of play was a little slow due to it was very busy.
Beautiful Setting
We enjoy the course very much and while its in good playing shape they need yo pay mire attention to the cart paths!
Lately large wholes and rough patches are decoming dangerous!
Perfect day
Read reviews of recent golfers, most complained of course speed, over booking time slots and cart path conditions. My review does not validate those opinionated reviews. We had a foursome, behind a foursome and we only slowed near the end of the day, snd then we delayed tee off on par 3’s. The staff was friendly at the starter and pro shop, cart paths are a bit choppy but it seems a little old and worn so in rain conditions often it’s expected. Carts are old and slow but never stalled or died.
My only complaint is Marshall stopping all golfing at 6:00 pm even with 45 mins of daylight remaining.
Only got 17 in when Marshall order us off. Apparently it’s course policy.
Great day, fantastic views of the island, lush scenery, great greens and fairways. Definitely will play again.
Pros & Cons
I like playing Pukulani CC because it’s the closest golf course to my home. It’s a wide open, fairly easy layout that goes up & down the Mtn on each hole. Greens & fairways are in nice shape, but the sand traps are awful. They actually have no sand, but instead some type of river loam, and are rock hard. Management really needs to spend some money and bring in some actual sand.
Pace of play is generally slower than average, and it’s hard to finish 18 holes in less than 4.75 ~ 5hr - even during the week.
Most of the staff are nice and friendly, but there is at least one Marshall who’s goal is sending you home early. They try to clear the course with still 1/2hr of playable conditions, just so they can get home early for dinner. Management needs to change their policy to allow paying customers to finish their round if visibility is still adequate. It’s the only course that I know of on Maui that tries to kick you off early! All golfers know to head in when they can’t see the ball any longer. But, letting Marshall’s badger the golfers is absolutely appalling! Marshalls are given free golf, and they shouldn’t be allowed to harass paying customers. Management needs to recognize who pays the bills!!
