Pukalani Country Club
About
Pukalani Country Club has a unique location at the 1,100-foot elevation of the famous Mount Haleakala, an extinct volcano whose name means “House of the Rising Sun.” The dramatic elevation offers breathtaking views that span the West Maui Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The golf course features wide, undulating fairways and fast, sloped greens. The gently rolling terrain can cause some tricky uneven lies. There are trees and well placed bunkers scattered throughout to provide further challenge. Pukalani Country Club has a unique feature on the par-3 third hole. The hole gives golfers the options of hitting to one of two very different greens, one which requires a tee shot over a tree-filled gully and another that requires a shot beyond a cliff to a pal tree-lined green.

A 10 year gap
The lat time I played this course was 10 years ago and my previous experience was very good. However, this go around was very average. The greens were slow and spotty and the general condition of the course was rough. Thankfully the views were still how I remembered- top notch!
Would come here every visit to Maui!
I loved Pukalani. We played there mid-late morning and then drove up to Haleakala after. It was a great day. The course is an amazing value (and I am a picky golfer). It was in good shape with interesting holes. The greens were in good shape. No- it's not like Kapalua, but then again, Kapalua wasn't in the pristine shape I expected. Pukalani has spectacular views, and it was fun to play. The staff was very friendly and lunch after our round was good.
Great views
Cooler climate than other courses on the island but greens were bare in too many areas.
Pukalani experience
This course was challenging for us as fairly new golfers and I'm sure it would be excellent if they hadn't just plugged the greens. We knew this when we signed up but hey, we're here, we want to play as many as we can. Beautiful views and very friendly staff.
Really nice views
A really nice layout and friendly staff but no amenities. The pro shop was a trailer and the cart barn was a metal carport. The course was not in good shape, the greens were sandy and unpredictable, the traps were terrible and the fairways were course. This is a beautiful tract with great possibilities but it needs much work. However, even so the layout was great and the course was fun to play and I would recommend it for the money and would play it again.
interesting!
Pukalani is an interesting change up to a mountain side course. You will find yourself either going straight downhill or straight back up. So get ready to unleash the Cracker on the uphill par 5s and make sure to practice a heavy draw to fight the Trade winds or just keep it low below the tree tops. Very friendly and helpful staff. Tassie is a great host. Great and quickly prepared food in the club house and some spectacular views of the central valley below and the North and South shores. Well worth the money with your Golf Now Hot Deal or without. Hang loose Bro!
Upcountry golf
We had the most wonderful day of golf at pukalani!!! I am an intermediate golfer and I was very comfortable with the course and the pace. Amazing views.
Disappointed
Haven't played this course for several years and it has gone downhill dramatically. Greens were poor and fairways were spotty at best. It's an Hawaiian golf course with nice views, but if it were located on the mainland, it wouldn't even be an average "muni".
Great Maui Golf
Pukalani, while a rather simple layout, is a fun beautiful course. It is a great value when compared to other Maui golf courses.
Pukalani -- great game
Pukalani is always a treat to play. It's unique in location and set-up. Always plays fast and quite a good deal. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful at the course. And the food is some of the best on the island. It's a must play round of golf.
Fun and relaxing day
Pukalani was a fun not too challenging course. Very wide fairways (sometimes not quite wide enough:)) slow greens but rolled true and outstanding views. Excellent value for money. Outstanding staff and excellent place for food.great chef at the facility. The facilities were old and outdated but very friendly people.when back in Maui will play again.
Good value in Maui
A good course and reasonably priced for Maui. Very windy on the day I played due to pending storm.
So Unique
Played here in the past while on vacation and, of all the courses I played, this was the one I chose to replay this time around because of how unique it is and the value you get compared to resort courses. Beautiful layout, awesome views, easy to hit off fairway grass, great greens, cooler temps. Only downside is that the sand in traps can be like concrete thanks to wind drying them out. A fun course that I will probably always play when in Maui.
Great Views
The course is in good condition with the exception of the 14th green. The course maintenance is addressing the problem and I know they will resolve it satisfactorily.
Upcountry Golf
I live on the 17th fairway. I joined as a member this year as I am getting back into golf after a ten year hiatus. This is a super fun course, with varies challenges along the way. Fairways are pretty open, but all are lined with pine trees. Stay inside the trees & enjoy much better scores. Grass varies & is different than other courses you may encounter on Maui. Staff is awesome & friendly. They really need to rebuild the clubhouse that burned down apx. 8 years ago. Great value for locals & visitors alike. I may be biased, but this is my home course & I love it!
Worth the drive to Pukalani
I had played golf on almost every course in Maui, except Pukalani because I was worried about the long drive. From Kihei / Wailea, I was pleased to find out that it actually is not that long to get there.
Once there, I found the course to be challenging, but very fair. The yardage book is also helpful. They had recently aerated the greens, so they had some light sand on them, which made them slower. than usual.
The pro shop is very tiny, I believe it's temporary, until they build the real one. They had excellent discount prices on apparel & shoes, although the selection is limited due to the small size.
The course puts you in your own little world. The trees are mature & it is an interesting layout. Some of the holes have very nice views & others are secluded with the trees and valleys.
Conditions are good, though not immaculate. Then again, you are not paying huge bucks to play. This is a very good value. I will definitely play here again. It's a fun, challenging course & again, an excellent value for the money.
Up on the hill, it can be cooler than many of the other courses, so bring a sweater or wind shirt, although the morning I played was beautiful.
After golf, I had saimin at the restaurant, which was very good.
I will definitely make it a point to play here again on my next Maui trip.
Love it - and much cooler on a hot day!!!!
My wife & I have played this course on a previous visit to Maui, and really enjoyed it once again. These are generally long, challenging holes and on the 3rd, you can REALLY challenge yourself or take the easier way out which adds interest. Definitely need a cart - we are used to walking slightly shorter courses which we prefer, but... Staff were super friendly, and judging by the number of patrons at the restaurant, it must be great. We'll be back!!!
Fair course and in great shape.
This course was in great condition. The staff was friendly, helpful, and informative. Pace of play was very good. No ice chests on cart, no drink cart, and no cart GPS, so come prepared. Origina l clubhouse burned down 7 years ago so snack bar, merchandise, and pro shop operate out of a trailer. Nevertheless, I will go back there on our next trip to Maui.
Get past the Gate keeper and you will enjoy the play and staff.
Big mistake I made was showing up early. Course rule no one gets checked in until 20 minutes before tee time. The check in person was upset that I did not know this rule, and told me that I should come back in 30 minutes . I did 27 minutes later, after noting that I was still early, the Golf Now payment was honored. Once past the check in problems , we were treated as valued customers. The course is fun with several challenging holes, one across a ravine for a par 3.
