Great Course
Thi s course is the best I have played so far. The staff is the most friendly i have seen The course is allways in great shape.
This is a MUST play challenging test of golf!
Lockhaven is a beautiful challenging must play golf course. It is set amongst old growth oak trees and pines that line every fairway. I felt at times like I was playing in Seattle Washington with the beautiful pine trees. It is quiet, peaceful, and gorgeous! It was a bit of a drive for me living in the city of St Louis but worth it and I will do it again very soon.
Rained and they wouldnt give me a rain check
I live over a hour away from the golf course, I called them to see what we could do they told me nothing, only if the course was closed would they give me a refund. So instead of wasting my money I drove an hour only to play in the rain the whole day, just to make a point to them. The good news is I took my 12 year old. It will cost them more in sod to fix the course than it would have been to give me a rain check or a refund. It was a waste of money for me but I think they will think again before they let a 12 year old play in the rain. What part of weather hazard do they not understand...........
Great Course.
A really enjoyable time. The Staff is first class and the grounds crew first class too. Course was in AWSOME condition! The BEST COURSE I have ever played!!!!
A course worth getting to know
Our first time to Lockhaven resulted in a terrific experience accentuated by a most welcoming staff. Despite the recent weather and flooding issues of the season, Lockhaven's staff has done a great job keeping the course together. Only the first hole and 2nd tees show visual evidence of the stressed conditions from flooding in the area. Layout positively reflects the traditional vibe associated with course designs of the 1950s and before. Greens were in great shape and trap complexes well maintained. Pace of play is a strength here, so don't come if you plan to plod. Our group held up the flow at a 4 hour pace. Great value. Look forward to returning soon.
Scenic, nice layout
Lockhaven was a fun course to play. A lot of rolling hills and elevated tees. Greens were in good shape. The drive to get there is also scenic!
great lay out
This course has a great layout will challenge any level golfer without being overly intimidating. Wide open fair ways with bunkers strategically place to protect the greens to challenge you to make a good shot. The greens are in great shape to test your ability to read the grain for each putt. Over all if you play this course you will enjoy yourself.
Nice course
Most of the course was great. Not over crowded, scenic and easy access by highway. Since there have been a lot of rain in the area lately the first hole was unplayable and tees moved up on the second hole. However, the course was in excellent shape otherwise and is well worth the play even if only 17 holes. Also, with only 17 holes you score better.
Great course with open fairways to bait you. Plays long with plenty of room to work.
The first hole was under water due to flooding which also submerged the second hole's tee box. You have to tee off on the fairway of the second hole par 5 and you have the option of repeating that hole to make up for hole#1 if you want to get in 18. Fairways are in good shape, great landscaping and open enough for the big hitters to go for it and challengin enough for the medium hitter. If you are accurate you will be ok but mistakes are punished often.
Wet right now, but well maintained
Course is always in great shape. Usually the greens are a little fast, but with all of the recent rain, they've slowed down. Worth the drive up river!
This course is one of the best in the area.
The club pro Adam, goes out of his way to make your visit great, whether you are a member or not. They offer great deals on golfnow.com. The course is very nice and has holes that can be challenging. A must play course!
Great, friendly staff.
Nice clubhouse, accommadating staff. Greens were okay,(recent Spring areation evident), tee boxes and fairways in great shape for this early in the year. The carts could use a windshield, especially on days like yesterday when brief periods of showers moved thru.
I'll be back.
Walters Golf Has a Lot of Work To Do
Golfnow offered a tee time for the ridiculously low price of 9.00 so please keep that in mind. For that price, anything above a cow pasture is a good deal.
The course has a fun layout and from the Blues it has a slope of 130 so it is challenging. Lots of woods and over half of the par 4's and 5's have a dogleg or bend. The green are a nice size, challenging but not too difficult.
The course does have issues though:
The yardage markers are missing on most of the holes so it is difficult to gauge distance.
Major drainage problems so numerous places with standing water.
The greens were recently airated so they were not in the best of shape but that is too be expected for this time of year.
Cart paths just disappear throughout the course so I felt bad driving on the grass with it being so wet but I had no choice.
The locker room has not been updated since was built in 1956. There is even Vitalis on the counter for you if you want to leave smelling fresh!
I enjoyed playing there but I was about the only one. Sure it was an overcast day but I played the entire course under three hours and didn't see anyone playing the entire time. If you like this coures I would suggest going out and playing it because I do not expect them to be in business much longer.
Course has a great and varied layout
I have played 475 different courses to date. I understand the monies are tight for fertilization, killing weeds, preparing, picking up sticks and weeding traps, but it needs to be done. It doesn't bother me much, however, it will preclude others that may like the course but do not like the conditions. I am not complaining, I would like to see your course succeed. I was very disappointed this time, since I missed a hole in one on four. That is okay, Iam averaging 2 on #4 the last two rounds.
I wasn't very impressed.
As of now the greens are being aerated, and the fairways are what I could only call a hybrid of dead and burnt grass. I'm sure it will be in better shape in a month or two but as of now there are other courses in the area that are in much better shape. We also played behind a five-some, and with zero rangers patrolling the course we got to watch them all day long. I understand that it is a difficult transition into becoming a public course. We will more than likely try again in a month or so to see if the conditions have improved.
liked old school country club layout
Course was in very poor condition. I hope WGM invests $$ in this course. would come back often.
Love this course!
Despite a tornado Wednesday the course had sustained a lot of tree damage, but unless you had a very errant shot they did not affect your play. Course pro thanked us for coming out to play and gave us cards for our next round to be discounted! Great salesmanship!
many blind shots
The course was not in the best of shape, maybe because it is early in season?? Tee boxes need lots of attention as do bunkers with all the grass growing in them. The greens must have been aerated with lots of sand on them, the ball picked up a quarter inch of sand just rolling across them. Fairways also need attention. There are many blind shots on this course. I think once they take care of the course it would nice to try it again, but in the meantime don't plan to do so.
LOVE the layout.
Course is always in good shape and very friendly staff.
