Challenging and fast greens
Was driving through the area and made a side trip to play PG. Got on and had an outstanding time as a single. The course is southwest of Springfield, Ill, and kind of in the middle of nowhere. Very friendly staff working on a hot day.
Wasn’t sure what the conditions would be but the course was in good shape. Maybe because it is out of the way, it doesn’t get a TON of play. The greens were outstanding and had some crazy undulations. Holes 1 and 9 have a small creek cutting across the fairway near the green, necessitating a forced carry to reach. Pin on 7 was in a diabolical spot as I had a 20-footer but hit it a little too firmly and had a 10-footer coming back!
Routing was a little funky. Thought I had gone to hole two but hadn’t driven far enough and instead was at four. Also, after finishing nine, you have to turn back and drive all the way back up to the clubhouse. More water in play of the back nine. Hole 12 is a par three that is all cay to reach. The finishing hole is solid with a small lake looming short and left. Probably would be a difficult course to walk due to hills and distance from greens to tee boxes.
All in all, I’d highly recommend and will play if I have time and in the area in the future.
Everything is perfect there.. well almost.
Perfect tee boxes.
Perfect fairways.
Perfect greens.
Everything was beyond our expectations.. except the foursome that drove into us twice while we were waiting for the group ahead of us to move on.. but that can't be helped I guess.
Great shape.
Course was in excellent shape for the time of season compared to other local courses. Always friendly and accommodating.
Tough but fair
This golf course was tough But in excellent shape My buddy and I Accidentally played the Wrong tees making it more challenging but we couldn't overcome the change. It is atough course but it is a fun ourselves to play
Challenging greens and course.
Our golf cart ran out of gas on 16th hole.
Difficult to get through to clubhouse. Phones not working. Fortunately, the drink cart came by and they had a number to call. Otherwise, could have been along wait on a hot day.
Fantastic greens course was in great shape!! Service was great!
Excellent time
A Central Illinois gem. Layout was great, course was in great shape with tough but fair greens and attention to detail. Challenging but fun, worth the replay. Staff was incredible, kind, efficient, wanted to make sure you had a fun and enjoyable golf experience. Clean clubhouse and facilities, highly recommend
Super track in great condition!
A large group of us stopped at Piper on the way home from a Big Cedar golf trip. We were rained out at Payne's Valley and feeling dejected from the weather. Piper was more than generous in accommodating us for 13 tee times. This place is a hidden gem. Imagine Cheers had a baby with your favorite country club. Conditioning was excellent. The greens were the fastest we played all trip. Layout was very challenging, yet fair. Pro shop was great. The bar area had live music on a Sunday afternoon and very friendly patrons. We will be back!
Course is very long and tough but in great shape and very scenic
